Abstract
Anionic cyclometalated complexes (NBu4)[Pt(CNC)X] (X = Cl (1), CN (2), or S-2py (pyridine-2-thiolate) (3); -CNC- = 2,6-di(phen-2-ide)-pyridine) have been used as precursors in the synthesis of heteropolynuclear Pt-Ag or Pt-Tl complexes containing donor-acceptor metal-metal bonds. Their reaction with AgClO4 or [Ag(OClO3)(PPh3)] produces complexes in which the nuclearity and structure seem to be determined by the ability of the ligand X to form bridges between the metals. Thus, the characteristic linear bridging of the cyano ligand leads to the formation of an octanuclear [{Pt(CNC)(μ-CN)}4Ag4] (4) or tetranuclear [{Pt(CNC)(μ-CN)}2{Ag(PPh3)}2] (6) complex, with CN bridges between different "Pt-Ag" units. However, the S-2py ligand can act as a bridge between Pt and Ag of the same "Pt-Ag" unit, giving rise to the complex [{Pt(CNC)(S-2py)}2Ag2]·CH2Cl2 (5). On the other hand, the reaction of 1-3 with TlPF6 yields the complexes [PtTl(CNC)Cl] (7), [PtTl(CNC)(CN)] (8), and (NBu4)[{Pt(CNC)(S-2py)}2Tl] (9), while with [Tl(S-2py)], [PtTl(CNC)(S-2py)] (10) is obtained. The structures of all these Pt-Tl complexes show great variation, with several geometric arrangements which sometime co-exist in the same crystal structure: discrete Pt-Tl, Pt-Tl-Pt and Pt-Tl-Pt-Tl units, as well as infinite Pt-Tl-Pt-Tl chains. This variability could be due to the lability of the Pt-Tl bonds and the ability of the thallium center to establish secondary interactions with donor atoms or aromatic π electron density from neighboring moieties.

Abstract
Several complexes of "PtL2" composition containing two cyanoxime anions - 2-oximino-2-cyano-N-piperidineacetamide (PiPCO-) and 2-oximino-2-cyano-N-morpholylacetamide (MCO-) - have been obtained and characterized both in solution and in the solid state. Complexes exist as two distinct polymorphs: monomeric yellow complexes and dark-green [PtL2]n 1D polymers, while for the MCO- anion a red, solvent containing dimeric [Pt(MCO)2·DMSO]2 complex has also been isolated. The interconversion of polymorphs was investigated. The monomeric PtL2 units are arranged into anisotropic extended solid [PtL2]n polymers with the help of PtPt metallophilic interactions. Crystal structures of monomeric PtL2 (L = PiPCO-, MCO-) and red dimeric [Pt(MCO)2·DMSO]2 complexes were determined and revealed the cis-arrangement of cyanoxime anions. The Pt-Pt distance in the "head-to-tail" red dimer was found to be 3.133 Å. The structure of the polymeric [Pt(PiPCO)2]n compound was elucidated using the EXAFS method and evidenced the formation of Pt-wires with ∼3.15 Å intermetallic separation. The EPR spectra of both 1D polymers at variable temperatures indicate the absence of Pt(iii) species. Both pure dark-green [PtL2]n polymers showed a considerable room temperature electrical conductivity of 20-30 S cm-1, which evidences the formation of a mixed valence Pt(ii)/Pt(iv) system. We discovered that these 1D polymeric [PtL2]n complexes show an intense NIR fluorescence beyond 1000 nm, while yellow monomeric PtL2 complexes are not emissive at all. The room temperature excitation spectra of 1D polymeric [PtL2]n complexes demonstrated their strong emission beyond 1000 nm regardless of the used excitation wavelength between 350 and 800 nm, which is typical of systems with delocalized charge carriers. For the first time the formation of mixed valence "metal wires" held together by metallophilic interactions is directly linked both with an intense fluorescence in the NIR region of the spectrum and with the electrical conductivity. The effect of the concentration of [PtL2]n complexes dispersed in the dielectric salt matrix on the photoluminescence wavelength and intensity was investigated. Both polymers show a quantum yield that is remarkably high for this region of the spectrum, reaching ∼2%. Variable temperature emission of polymeric [PtL2]n in the -190-+60 °C range was studied as well.

Abstract
The syntheses and structural characterizations of a Pt-Tl chain [{Pt(bzq)(C6F5)2}Tl(Me2CO)]n 1 and two trinuclear Pt2M clusters (NBu4)[{Pt(bzq)(C6F5)2}2Tl] 2 and [{Pt(bzq)(C6F5)2}2Pb] 3 (bzq = 7,8-benzoquinolinyl), stabilized by donor-acceptor Pt → M bonds, are reported. The one-dimensional heterometallic chain 1 is formed by alternate "Pt(bzq)(C6F5)2" and "Tl(Me2CO)" fragments, with Pt-Tl bond separations in the range of 2.961(1)-3.067(1) Å. The isoelectronic trinuclear complexes 2 (which crystallizes in three forms, namely, 2a, 2b, and 2c) and 3 present a sandwich structure in which the Tl(I) or Pb(II) is located between two "Pt(bzq)(C6F5)2" subunits. NMR studies suggest equilibria in solution implying cleavage and reformation of Pt-M bonds. The lowest-lying absorption band in the UV-vis spectra in CH2Cl2 and tetrahydrofuran (THF) of 1, associated with (1)MLCT/(1)L'LCT (1)[5dπ(Pt) → π*(bzq)]/(1)[(C6F5) → bzq], displays a blue shift in relation to the precursor, suggesting the cleavage of the chain maintaining bimetallic Pt-Tl fragments in solution, also supported by NMR spectroscopy. In 2 and 3, it shows a blue shift in THF and a red shift in CH2Cl2, supporting a more extensive cleavage of the Pt-M bonds in THF solutions than in CH2Cl2, where the trinuclear entities are predominant. The Pt-Tl chain 1 displays in solid state a bright orange-red emission ascribed to (3)MM'CT (M' = Tl). It exhibits remarkable and fast reversible vapochromic and vapoluminescent response to donor vapors (THF and Et2O), related to the coordination/decoordination of the guest molecule to the Tl(I) ion, and mechanochromic behavior, associated with the shortening of the intermetallic Pt-Tl separations in the chain induced by grinding. In frozen solutions (THF, acetone, and CH2Cl2) 1 shows interesting luminescence thermochromism with emissions strongly dependent on the solvent, concentration, and excitation wavelengths. The Pt2Tl complex 2 shows an emission close to 1, ascribed to charge transfer from the platinum fragment to the thallium [(3)(L+L')MM'CT]. 2 also shows vapoluminescent behavior in the presence of vapors of Me2CO, THF, and Et2O, although smaller and slower than those of 1. The trinuclear neutral complex Pt2Pb 3 displays a blue-shift emission band, tentatively assigned to admixture of (3)MM'CT (3)[Pt(d) → Pb(sp)] with some metal-mediated intraligand ((3)ππ/(3)ILCT) contribution. In contrast to 1 and 2, 3 does not show vapoluminescent behavior.

Abstract
A series of heteropolynuclear Pt-Tl-Fe complexes have been synthesized and structurally characterized. The final structures strongly depend on the geometry of the precursor and the Pt/Tl ratio used. Thus, the anionic heteroleptic cis-configured [cis-Pt(C(6)F(5))(2)(C≡CFc)(2)](2-) and [Pt(bzq)(C≡CFc)(2)](-) (Fc = ferrocenyl) complexes react with Tl(+) to form discrete octanuclear (PPh(3)Me)(2)[{trans,cis,cis-PtTl(C(6)F(5))(2)(C≡CFc)(2)}(2)] (1), [PtTl(bzq)(C≡CFc)(2)](2) (5; bzq = benzoquinolate), and decanuclear [trans,cis,cis-PtTl(2)(C(6)F(5))(2)(C≡CFc)(2)](2) (3) derivatives, stabilized by both Pt(II)···Tl(I) and Tl(I)···η(2)(alkynyl) bonds. By contrast, Q(2)[trans-Pt(C(6)F(5))(2)(C≡CFc)(2)] (Q = NBu(4)) reacts with Tl(+) to give the one-dimensional (1-D) anionic [(NBu(4)){trans,trans,trans-PtTl(C(6)F(5))(2)(C≡CFc)(2)}](n) (2) and neutral [trans,trans,trans-PtTl(2)(C(6)F(5))(2)(C≡CFc)(2)](n) (4) polymeric chains based on [PtFc(2)](2-) platinate fragments and Tl(+) (2) or [Tl···Tl](2+) (4) units, respectively, connected by Pt(II)···Tl(I) and secondary weak κ-η(1) (2) or η(2) (4) alkynyl···Tl(I) bonding. The formation of 1-4 is reversible, and thus treatment of neutral 3 and 4 with PPh(3)MeBr causes the precipitation of TlBr, returning toward the formation of the anionic 1 and 2' (Q = PPh(3)Me). Two slightly different pseudopolymorphs were found for 2', depending on the crystallization solvent. Finally, the reaction of the homoleptic [Pt(C≡CFc)(4)](2-) with 2 equiv of Tl(+) affords the tetradecanuclear sandwich type complex [Pt(2)Tl(4)(C≡CFc)(8)] (6). Electrochemical, spectroelectrochemical, and theoretical studies have been carried out to elucidate the effect produced by the interaction of the Tl(+) with the Pt-C≡CFc fragments. The cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) of 1-5 reveal that, in general, neutralization of the anionic fragments increases the stability of the fully oxidized species and gives higher E(1/2) (Fc) values than those observed in their precursors, increasing with the number of Pt-Tl bonding interactions. However, the electronic communication between Fc groups is reduced or even lost upon Tl(+) coordination, as confirmed by electrochemical (CVs and DPVs voltammograms, 1-5) and spectroelectrochemical (UV-vis-NIR, 2-4) studies. Complexes 2 and 4 still display some electronic interaction between the Fc groups, supported by the presence of an IVCT band in their UV-vis-NIR spectra of oxidized species and additional comparative DFT calculations with the precursor [trans-Pt(C(6)F(5))(2)(C≡CFc)(2)](2-) and complex 3.

With the use of the MP2 method, the M-M' distances in 3-7 were estimated to be in the range of 2.76-3.02 A, implying the existence of weak metal-metal interaction. This is further evident in the stretching frequencies and bond orders of M-M'. The two-electron oxidation from 5-7 to their respective partners 8-10 was shown to mainly occur in the gold-rhodium centers. Experimental absorption spectra were well reproduced by our time-dependent density functional theory calculations. The metal-metal interaction results in a large shift of d(z(2)) --> p(z) transition absorptions in binuclear complexes relative to mononuclear analogues and concomitantly produces a low-lying excited state that is responsible for increasing visible-light photocatalytic activities. Upon excitation, the metal-centered transition and the metal-to-metal charge transfer strengthen the metal-metal interaction in triplet excited states for 3-6, while the promotion of electrons into the sigma*(d(z(2))) orbital weakens the interaction in 9.

Abstract
The chemistry of heterocyclic carbenes has experienced a rapid development over the last years. In addition to the imidazolin-2-ylidenes, a large number of cyclic diaminocarbenes with different ring sizes have been described. Aside from diaminocarbenes, P-heterocyclic carbenes, and derivatives with only one, or even no heteroatom within the carbene ring are known. New methods for the synthesis of complexes with N-heterocyclic carbene ligands such as the oxidative addition or the metal atom template controlled cyclization of beta-functionalized isocyanides have been developed recently. This review summarizes the new developments regarding the synthesis of N-heterocyclic carbenes and their metal complexes.

Abstract
The mononuclear pentafluorophenyl platinum complex containing the chelated diphenylphosphinous acid/diphenylphosphinite system [Pt(C(6)F(5)){(PPh(2)O)(2)H}(PPh(2)OH)] 1 has been prepared and characterised. 1 and the related alkynyl complex [Pt(C[triple bond, length as m-dash]CBu(t)){(PPh(2)O)(2)H}(PPh(2)OH)] 2 form infinite one-dimensional chains in the solid state based on intermolecular O-H[dot dot dot]O hydrogen bonding interactions. Deprotonation reactions of [PtL{(PPh(2)O)(2)H}(PPh(2)OH)] (L = C(6)F(5), C[triple bond, length as m-dash]CBu(t), C[triple bond, length as m-dash]CPh 3) with [Tl(acac)] yields tetranuclear Pt(2)Tl(2) complexes [PtL{(PPh(2)O)(2)H}(PPh(2)O)Tl](2) (L = C(6)F(5) 4, C[triple bond, length as m-dash]CBu(t), C[triple bond, length as m-dash]CPh ). The structure of the tert-butylalkynyl derivative , established by X-ray diffraction, shows two anionic discrete units [Pt(C[triple bond, length as m-dash]CBu(t)){(PPh(2)O)(2)H}(PPh(2)O)](-) joined by two Tl(i) centres via Tl-O and Pt-Tl bonds. Despite the existence of Pt-Tl interactions, they do not show luminescence.
