Abstract
Two new zinc phosphites were prepared using the amino acid alanine as a structure-directing agent. They have tubular and ladder-like structures, exhibiting blue fluorescence upon UV light irradiation. Notably, the tubular structure is unprecedented in metal phosphite systems. The compound is a nonlinear optically active solid with a second-harmonic generation efficiency of about 1.2 times that of KH2PO4 (KDP).

Abstract
Two crystalline open-framework indium phosphites (denoted SCU-31 and SCU-32) were prepared using amino acids as structure-directing agents. They have isoreticular pillared-layered structures built up from 6 × 1 and 4 = 1 clusters. Notably, the two compounds show excellent water stability and exhibit blue fluorescence under UV light irradiation at room temperature. The proton-conducting behaviour of SCU-31 was also investigated.

Abstract
Solvothermal reaction of a TCA (TCA = 4,4',4''-tricarboxytriphenylamine) ligand with Cd(NO3)2 yielded a unique 3D 12-connected metal-organic framework of , which can be simplified as a (3,3,12)-connected 3-nodal net with a Schläfli symbol of {4(16)·6(36)·8(14)}{4(2)·6}2{4(3)}2 based on a 12-connected node of a pentanuclear Cd(ii) cluster and a three-connected organic linker of TCA. Compound exhibits both photoluminescence and proton conductivity. The luminescence properties of originate from the triphenylamine chromophore of the TCA ligand. The proton conductivity of is supposed to be relevant to the structure attributes of . On the one hand, the curved narrow channels lined with a hydrophilic pentanuclear Cd(ii) cluster in can improve the water affinity of framework and facilitate the water absorption under humid conditions. On the other hand, the coordinated water molecules within the pentanuclear Cd(ii) cluster can produce a mobile H(+) proton due to coordination activation. At 80 °C and 85% RH (relative humidity), compound shows the proton conductivity of 1.45 × 10(-6) S cm(-1).

Abstract
Five new zinc phosphites, [C10N4H26][Zn2(HPO3)4].2H2O, 1, [C10N4H26][Zn5(H2O)4(HPO3)6].4H2O, 2, [C10N4H26][Zn4(HPO3)6].2H2O, 3, [C10N4H26][Zn4(HPO3)6].2H2O, 4, and [Zn2(HPO3)2(C10N4H24)], 5, were synthesized employing solvo/hydrothermal reactions in the presence of 1,4-bis (3-aminopropyl) piperazine (APPIP). Single crystal X-ray diffraction studies indicate that all the compounds form a hierarchy of structures. While the structures 1 and 2 are low-dimensional, 3-5 have three-dimensional connectivity. ZnO4 and HPO3 units form a 4-membered ring and are connected through their corners forming a one-dimensional chain structure in 1. 2 has one-dimensional ladders connected by ZnO2(H2O)4 octahedral units forming a layer with 4- and 8-membered apertures. Compounds 3 and 4 have similar molecular formulae and connectivity, which makes them polymorphic in nature. The amine molecules exist in gauche and all-trans form in 3 and 4, respectively. The amine molecule binds with the zinc center in 5 and acts as a pillar between the two zinc phosphite layers. The present study outlines the possible role of synthesis parameters for the isolation of a number of different structures by employing a single amine molecule, APPIP. The observation of polymorphic structures along with the interconvertibilities of one of the phases is important and noteworthy. The 31P chemical shifts observed in NMR studies, consistent with the single crystal data, have been correlated with the valence sum values of the oxygen that are bound with the distinct phosphorus.

Abstract
Three new amine templated uranium phosphites, [C2N2H10][U2IVF6(HPO3)2], 1, [C4N2H12][U2IVF6(HPO3)2], 2, and [C4N2H12][(UVIO2)2F2(HPO3)2], 3, have been synthesized by hydrothermal methods. All of the compounds are built up from a connectivity between U(O/F)x (x = 7, 8) and HPO3 polyhedral units. The observation of a well-established secondary building unit, SBU-4, in 1 and 2 is noteworthy. In 1, the SBU-4 units are connected to form U-F-U chains, which are linked by U-O-P chains, forming the layered structure. In 2, the SBU-4 units are edge-shared and also interconnected forming the 3D structure. In 3, the connectivity between the building units forms a layer, the topology of which is similar to the mineral, johannite. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first observation of a well-known secondary building unit (SBU-4) in actinide framework compounds. Optical studies on 1 and 2, containing U(4+) species, indicate an intense blue emission through an upconversion process, and the magnetic susceptibility studies show antiferromagnetic behavior.

Abstract
Whereas open-framework materials have been made in a variety of chemical compositions, few are known in which 3-connected SO3(2)- anions serve as basic building units. Here, we report four new metal-sulfite polymeric structures, (ZnSO3)Py (1, py = pyridine), (ZnSO3)2(2,2'-bipy)H2O (2, 2,2'-bipy = 2,2'-bipyridine), (ZnSO3)2(TMDPy) (3, TMDPy = 4,4'-trimethylenedipyridine), and (MnSO3)2en (4, en = ethylenediamine) that have been synthesized hydrothermally and structurally characterized. In these compounds, low-dimensional 1D and 2D inorganic subunits are assembled into higher 2D or 3D covalent frameworks by organic ligands. In addition to the structure-directing effect of organic ligands, the flexible coordination chemistry of Zn2+ and SO3(2)- also contributes to the observed structural diversity. In compounds 1-3, Zn2+ sites alternate with trigonal pyramidal SO3(2)- anions to form three types of [ZnSO3]n chains, whereas in compound 4, a 2D-corrugated [MnSO3]n layer is present. Compound 1 features a rail-like chain with pendant pyridine rings. The pi-pi interaction between 2,2'-bipy ligands is found between adjacent chains in compound 2, resulting in 2D sheets that are further stacked through interlayer hydrogen bonds. Compound 3 exhibits a very interesting inorganic [(ZnSO3)2]n chain constructed from two chairlike subunits, and such chains are bridged by TMDPy ligands into a 2D sheet. In compound 4, side-by-side helical chains permeate through 2D-corrugated [MnSO3]n layers, which are pillared by neutral ethylenediamine molecules into a 3D framework that can be topologically represented as a (3,6)-connected net. The results presented here illustrate the rich structural chemistry of metal-sulfites and the potential of sulfite anions as a unique structural building block for the construction of novel open-framework materials, in particular, those containing polymeric inorganic subunits that may have interesting physical properties such as low-dimensional magnetism or electronic properties.

Abstract
An unprecedented twofold interpenetrating (3,4)-connected topology of the Cu(3)L(4)-type metal-organic framework was prepared using N,N',N''-tris(4-pyridinyl)-1,3,5-benzenetricarboxamide (L) as a trigonal three-connection node and the copper(ii) ion as a square planar four-connection node, where the framework contains remarkably large 1-D solvent channels.
