Abstract
The structure of and bonding in two base-free terminal actinide imido metallocenes, [η5-1,2,4-(Me3C)3C5H2]2An═N(p-tolyl) (An = U (1), Th (1')) are compared and connected to their individual reactivity. While structurally rather similar, the U(IV) derivative 1 is slightly more sterically crowded. Furthermore, density functional theory (DFT) studies imply that the 5f orbital contribution to the bonding within the individual actinide imido An═N(p-tolyl) moieties is significantly larger for 1 than for 1', which makes the bonds between the [η5-1,2,4-(Me3C)3C5H2]2U2+ and [(p-tolyl)N]2- fragments more covalent. Therefore, steric and electronic factors impact the reactivity of these imido complexes. For example, complex 1 is inert toward internal alkynes, but it readily forms Lewis base adducts [η5-1,2,4-(Me3C)3C5H2]2U═N(p-tolyl)(L) (L = OPMe3 (6), dmap (9), PhCN (14), and 2,6-Me2PhNC (17)) with Me3PO, 4-dimethylaminopyridine (dmap), nitrile, PhCN, or isonitrile 2,6-Me2PhNC. It may also react as a nucleophile or undergo a [2 + 2] cycloaddition with CS2, isothiocyanates, thio-ketones, ketones, lactides, and acyl nitriles, forming the four- or five-membered metallaheteroacycles, terminal sulfido, or oxido complexes, and cyanide amidate complexes, respectively. In contrast, after the addition of aldehyde p-tolylCHO, the tetranuclear complex [η5-1,2,4-(Me3C)3C5H2]4[OCH(p-tolyl)CH(p-tolyl)O]2U4O4 (10) is isolated. However, while 1 is unreactive toward dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCC), an equilibrium exists in benzene solution between N,N'-diisopropylcarbodiimide (DIC), 1, and the four-membered metallaheterocycle [η5-1,2,4-(Me3C)3C5H2]2U[N(p-tolyl)C(═NiPr)N(iPr)] (12). Furthermore, 1 may also engage in single- and two-electron transfer processes. It is singly oxidized by Ph3CN3, CuI, Ph2S2, and Ph2Se2, yielding the uranium(V) imido complexes [η5-1,2,4-(Me3C)3C5H2]2U═N(p-tolyl)(X) (X = N3 (20), I (22), PhS (23), and PhSe (24)), or is doubly oxidized by organic azides (RN3) and 9-diazofluorene, forming the uranium(VI) bis-imido metallocenes [η5-1,2,4-(Me3C)3C5H2]2U═N(p-tolyl)(=NR) (R = p-tolyl (18), mesityl (19)) and [η5-1,2,4-(Me3C)3C5H2]2U=N(p-tolyl)[=NN=(9-C13H8)] (21), respectively.

Abstract
The Lewis base-supported uranium terminal imido metallocene [η5-1,2,4-(Me3Si)3C5H2]2UN(p-tolyl)(dmap) (1) readily reacts with various small molecules such as internal alkynes, isothiocyanates, thioketones, amidates, organic nitriles and imines, chlorosilanes, copper iodide, diphenyl disulfide, organic azides and diazoalkane derivatives. For example, treatment of 1 with PhCCCCPh and PhNCS forms metallaheterocycles originating from a [2 + 2] cycloaddition to yield [η5-1-(p-tolyl)NC(Ph)CHCC(Ph)CH2Si(Me)2-2,4-(Me3Si)2C5H2][η5-1,2,4-(Me3Si)3C5H2]U (2) and [η5-1,2,4-(Me3Si)3C5H2]2U[N(p-tolyl)C(NPh)S](dmap) (3), respectively. The reaction of 1 with the thioketone Ph2CS forms the known uranium sulfido complex [η5-1,2,4-(Me3Si)3C5H2]2US(dmap) (4), which reacts with a second molecule of Ph2CS to give the disulfido compound [η5-1,2,4-(Me3Si)3C5H2]2U(S2CPh2) (5). The imido moiety also promotes deprotonation reactions as illustrated in the reactions with the amide PhCONH(p-tolyl), the nitrile PhCH2CN and the imine (p-tolyl)2CNH to form the bis-amidate [η5-1,2,4-(Me3Si)3C5H2]2U[OC(Ph)N(p-tolyl)]2 (7), and the iminato complexes [η5-1,2,4-(Me3Si)3C5H2]2U[N(p-tolyl)C(CH2Ph)NH](NCCHPh) (8) and [η5-1,2,4-(Me3Si)3C5H2]2U[NH(p-tolyl)][NC(p-tolyl)2] (9), respectively. Addition of PhSiH2Cl to 1 yields [η5-1,2,4-(Me3Si)3C5H2]2U(Cl)[N(p-tolyl)SiH2Ph] (10). In contrast, the uranium(V) imido complexes [η5-1,2,4-(Me3Si)3C5H2]2UN(p-tolyl)(I) (11) and [η5-1,2,4-(Me3Si)3C5H2]2UN(p-tolyl)(SPh) (12), may be isolated upon addition of CuI or Ph2S2 to 1, respectively. Uranium(VI) bis-imido metallocenes [η5-1,2,4-(Me3Si)3C5H2]2UN(p-tolyl)(NR) (R = p-tolyl (13), mesityl (14)) and [η5-1,2,4-(Me3Si)3C5H2]2UN(p-tolyl)[NN(9-C13H8)] (15) are accessible from 1 on exposure to RN3 (R = p-tolyl, mesityl) and 9-diazofluorene, respectively. Complexes 2, 3, 5, and 7-15 were characterized by various spectroscopic techniques and, in addition, compounds 2, 3, 5, and 7-13 were structurally authenticated by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses.

Abstract
Uranium complexes can be stabilized in a wide range of oxidation states, ranging from UII to UVI and a very recent example of a UI complex. This review provides a comprehensive summary of electrochemistry data reported on uranium complexes in nonaqueous electrolyte, to serve as a clear point of reference for newly synthesized compounds, and to evaluate how different ligand environments influence experimentally observed electrochemical redox potentials. Data for over 200 uranium compounds are reported, together with a detailed discussion of trends observed across larger series of complexes in response to ligand field variations. In analogy to the traditional Lever parameter, we utilized the data to derive a new uranium-specific set of ligand field parameters UEL(L) that more accurately represent metal-ligand bonding situations than previously existing transition metal derived parameters. Exemplarily, we demonstrate UEL(L) parameters to be useful for the prediction of structure-reactivity correlations in order to activate specific substrate targets.

Abstract
Transmetalation of potassium salts of differently substituted acetylacetonate (acac) and β-ketoiminate (acnac) with [U(I)3(dioxane)1.5] and [U(I)4(dioxane)2] resulted in the formation of homoleptic, octahedral complexes [U(tBuacnacPh)3] (with tBuacnacPh = 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-5-(phenylimino)heptan-3-onate) in the oxidation states +III and +IV and the homoleptic, square prismatic complexes [UIV(MeacnacPh)4] (with MeacnacPh = 4-(phenylimino)pentan-2-onate) and the homoleptic, square antiprismatic complexes [U(tBuacac)4] [with acac = 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedionate (tBuacac), 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl,4-methyl-3,5-heptanedionate (tBuacMeac), and 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-phenyl-3,5-heptanedionate (tBuacPhac)] in oxidation states +III, +IV, and +V. Oxidation of [UIII(tBuacnacPh)3] (1) with AgOTf yielded [UIV(tBuacnacPh)3][OTf] (2), which was fully characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, a combination of ultraviolet/visible/near-infrared, nuclear magnetic resonance, and infrared spectroscopies, and solid-state superconducting quantum interference device magnetization studies. Complexation of the sterically less encumbering ligand derivative MeacnacPh provided access to the tetravalent, square antiprismatic complex [UIV(MeacnacPh)4] (3). Cyclovoltammetric analysis of the square antiprismatic [UIV(tBuacac)4] (4), [UIV(tBuacMeac)4] (5), and [UIV(tBuacPhac)4] (6) revealed reversible anodic and cathodic waves, attributable to the U(III/IV) and U(IV/V) redox couples, both being chemically accessible, as tested in the case of 5. The corresponding U(III) and U(V) compounds, [K(2.2.2-cryptand)][UIII(tBuacMeac)4] (7) and [UV(tBuacMeac)4][SbF6] (8), were synthesized accordingly. Unfortunately, reduced 7 proved to be too reactive for isolation and could only be detected by electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy. Notably, electrochemical studies on homoleptic uranium(IV) complexes with differently derivatized (R) acRac ligands (R = H, Me, or Ph) feature large electrochemical windows of up to 2.91 V, measured between the uranium(III) and the uranium(V) species, in addition to high stability toward repeated potential scans.

Abstract
Uranyl ions, {UO2}n+ (n = 1, 2), display trans, strongly covalent, and chemically robust U-O multiple bonds, where 6d, 5f, and 6p orbitals play important roles. The synthesis of isoelectronic analogues of uranyl has been of interest for quite some time, mainly with the purpose of unveiling covalence and 5f-orbital participation in bonding. Significant advances have occurred in the last two decades, initially marked by the synthesis of uranium(VI) bis(imido) complexes, the first analogues with a {RNUNR}2+ core, later followed by the synthesis of unique trans-{EUO}2+ (E = S, Se) complexes, and recently highlighted by the synthesis of the first complexes featuring a linear {NUN} moiety. This review covers the synthesis, structure, bonding, and reactivity of uranium complexes containing a linear {EUE}n+ core (n = 0, 1, 2), isoelectronic to uranyl ions, {OUO}n+ (n = 1, 2), incorporating σ- and π-donating ligands that can engage in uranium–ligand multiple bonding, where oxygen may be replaced by heavier chalcogenido, imido, nitride, and carbene ligands, or by a transition metal. It focuses on synthetic methods of well-defined molecular uranium species in the condensed phase but also references gas-phase and low-temperature-matrix experiments, as well as computational studies that may lead to valuable insights.

Abstract
We report the synthesis, characterization, and electronic structure studies of a series of thorium(IV) and uranium(IV) bis-tetramethyltetraazaannulene complexes. These sandwich complexes show remarkable stability towards air and moisture, even at elevated temperatures. Electrochemical studies show the uranium complex to be stable in three different oxidation states; isolation of the oxidized species reveals a rare case of a non-innocent tetramethyltetraazaannulene (TMTAA) ligand.

Abstract
Herein, we report the synthesis and characterization of a series of terminal uranium(iv) hydrosulfido and sulfido complexes, supported by the hexadentate, tacn-based ligand framework (Ad,MeArO)3tacn3- (= trianion of 1,4,7-tris(3-(1-adamantyl)-5-methyl-2-hydroxybenzyl)-1,4,7-triazacyclononane). The hydrosulfido complex [((Ad,MeArO)3tacn)U-SH] (2) is obtained from the reaction of H2S with the uranium(iii) starting material [((Ad,MeArO)3tacn)U] (1) in THF. Subsequent deprotonation with potassium bis(trimethylsilyl)amide yields the mononuclear uranium(iv) sulfido species in good yields. With the aid of dibenzo-18-crown-6 and 2.2.2-cryptand, it was possible to isolate a terminal sulfido species, capped by the potassium counter ion, and a "free" terminal sulfido species with a well separated cation/anion pair. Spectroscopic and computational analyses provided insights into the nature of the uranium-sulfur bond in these complexes.

Abstract
Prior to the year 2000, non-aqueous uranium chemistry mainly involved metallocene and classical alkyl, amide, or alkoxide compounds as well as established carbene, imido, and oxo derivatives. Since then, there has been a resurgence of the area, and dramatic developments of supporting ligands and multiply bonded ligand types, small-molecule activation, and magnetism have been reported. This Review 1) introduces the reader to some of the specialist theories of the area, 2) covers all-important starting materials, 3) surveys contemporary ligand classes installed at uranium, including alkyl, aryl, arene, carbene, amide, imide, nitride, alkoxide, aryloxide, and oxo compounds, 4) describes advances in the area of single-molecule magnetism, and 5) summarizes the coordination and activation of small molecules, including carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, nitric oxide, dinitrogen, white phosphorus, and alkanes.

Abstract
The ketimide anion R2C=N(-) is an important class of chemically robust ligand that binds strongly to metal ions and is considered ideal for supporting reactive metal fragments due to its inert spectator nature; this contrasts with R2N(-) amides that exhibit a wide range of reactivities. Here, we report the synthesis and characterization of a rare example of an actinide ketimide complex [Th(BIPM(TMS)){N(SiMe3)2}(N=CPh2)] [2, BIPM(TMS)=C(PPh2NSiMe3)2]. Complex 2 contains Th=C(carbene), Th-N(amide) and Th-N(ketimide) linkages, thereby presenting the opportunity to probe the preferential reactivity of these linkages. Importantly, reactivity studies of 2 with unsaturated substrates shows that insertion reactions occur preferentially at the Th-N(ketimide) bond rather than at the Th=C(carbene) or Th-N(amide) bonds. This overturns the established view that metal-ketimide linkages are purely inert spectators.

Abstract
Systematic ligand variation in a structurally conserved framework of pentavalent uranium complexes of the formulas U(V)X2[N(SiMe3)2]3 (X = F, Cl, Br, N3, NCS, 2-naphthoxide) and U(V)OX[N(SiMe3)2]3(-) (X = -CCPh, -CN) allowed an investigation into the role of the inverse trans influence in pentavalent uranium complexes. The -CCPh and -CN derivatives were only stable in the presence of the trans-U═O multiple bond, implicating the inverse trans influence in stabilizing these complexes. Spectroscopic, structural, and density functional theory calculated electronic structural data are explored. Near-IR data of all complexes is presented, displaying vibronic coupling of 5f(1) electronic transitions along the primary axis. Electrochemical characterization allowed assessment of the relative donating ability of the various axial ligands in this framework. Electron paramagnetic resonance data presented display axial spectra, with hyperfine coupling along the primary axis.

Abstract
Rational selection of molecular precursors is the key consideration in the synthesis of inorganic nanocrystals and nanoparticles. This review highlights the state-of-the-art and future potential of metal amides as precursors in the solution-phase synthesis of monodisperse colloidal nanocrystals of metals and metal alloys, as well as metal oxides and chalcogenides. We exclusively focus on homoleptic metal and metalloid alkylamides M(NR2)n and silylamides M[N(SiMe3)2]n as predominant choice of element-nitrogen bonded precursors, which are often advantageous to commonly used metal-oxygen and metal-carbon bonded counterparts. In particular, these amides are highly reactive in oxidation, reduction and metathesis reactions; they are oxygen-free, easy-to-make and/or commercially available. A comprehensive literature review is complemented by our theoretical studies on the thermal stability of metal silylamides using molecular dynamics simulations.

Abstract
Reaction of UCl(4) with 5 equiv of Li(N═C(t)BuPh) generates the homoleptic U(IV) ketimide complex [Li(THF)(2)][U(N═C(t)BuPh)(5)] (1) in 71% yield. Similarly, reaction of UCl(4) with 5 equiv of Li(N═C(t)Bu(2)) affords [Li(THF)][U(N═C(t)Bu(2))(5)] (2) in 67% yield. Oxidation of 2 with 0.5 equiv of I(2) results in the formation of the neutral U(V) complex U(N═C(t)Bu(2))(5) (3). In contrast, oxidation of 1 with 0.5 equiv of I(2), followed by addition of 1 equiv of Li(N═C(t)BuPh), generates the octahedral U(V) ketimide complex [Li][U(N═C(t)BuPh)(6)] (4) in 68% yield. Complex 4 can be further oxidized to the U(VI) ketimide complex U(N═C(t)BuPh)(6) (5). Complexes 1-5 were characterized by X-ray crystallography, while SQUID magnetometry, EPR spectroscopy, and UV-vis-NIR spectroscopy measurements were also preformed on complex 4. Using this data, the crystal field splitting parameters of the f orbitals were determined, allowing us to estimate the amount of f orbital participation in the bonding of 4.
