Abstract
At different reaction temperatures, using Cu(NO3)2·3H2O to react with enantiomerically pure N-donor ligands (LS/LR), respectively, two pairs of chiral one-dimensional (1D) CuII chain enantiomers formulated as [Cu(μ2-NO3)(NO3)(LS)]n/[Cu(μ2-NO3)(NO3)(LR)]n (S-1-Cu/R-1-Cu, formed at 40 °C with an NO3- group as a sole bridging ligand) and [Cu(μ2-LS)(NO3)2]n/[Cu(μ2-LR)(NO3)2]n (S-2-Cu/R-2-Cu, formed at 25 °C with LS or LR as a bridging ligand) were prepared, where LS/LR = (+)/(-)-4,5-pinenepyridyl-2-pyrazine. Interestingly, such a disparity in bridging ligands leads not only to their distinct structural features but also to their completely different magnetic couplings together with a large difference in their nonlinear optical responses. S-1-Cu with a 1D helical structure shows weak ferromagnetic coupling between CuII ions, while S-2-Cu with a 1D stairway-like structure presents weak antiferromagnetic coupling. In particular, they simultaneously possess both second- and third-harmonic generation (SHG and THG) responses in one molecule with large strength differences. More remarkably, S-1-Cu exhibits a very large THG response (162 × α-SiO2), which is 22.5 times that of S-2-Cu, and the SHG strength of S-1-Cu is more than 3 times that of S-2-Cu. This work demonstrates that reaction temperature has a great impact on the self-assembled structures of coordination polymers and subsequently results in their large performance differences.

Abstract
Photochromic and nonphotochromic luminescent bipyridinium-based supramolecular isomers [Cd(CPBPY)(BDC)(H2O)]n (1) and {[Cd(CPBPY)(BDC)]·H2O}n (2) (CPBPY = N-(3-carboxyphenyl)-4,4'-bipyridinium, BDC= terephthalate) have been successfully obtained by solvothermal reactions at 100 °C via tuning stoichiometric ratios of starting reagents. Isomer 1 features (4,4)-topological layer constructed by edge-shared Cd2 SBUs and BDC linkers attached by N-pendent CPBPY groups. Isomer 2 has (6,3)-topological layers with Cd atoms as nodes and BDC and double CPBPY as linkers, which are 4-fold interpenetrated into 3D network. Although both 1 and 2 contain bipyridinium ligands, only isomer 1 possesses reversible photochromic behavior with quick-switchable luminescence in the solid state. Compound 2 does not show photochromic behavior even after exposure to UV light for more than 2 h. Photochromism process of 1 originates from photostimulated reduction of CPBPY ligands to generate CPBPY(•-) radicals after irradiation, confirmed by EPR spectra. Careful check on structure reveals that the offset π-π stacking interaction between the pyridine ring of CPBPY and benzene ring of BDC with inter-ring shortest C···C distance of 3.214 Å in 1 is responsible for electron transfer to form the CPBPY(•-) radicals. The speculation is further supported by DFT calculation of frontier orbital matching of electron donor and acceptor. HOMO and HOMO-2 orbitals of BDC involve the carbon atoms of benzene ring while LUMO and LUMO+1 orbitals of CPBPY involve the carbon atoms of pyridinium ring. Importantly, the photoinduced formed CPBPY(•-) radicals in 1 have a long-lived lifetime (at least six months in air and room temperature condition), which is mainly attributed to the close packing mode.

Abstract
In the title compound, the symmetry-unique terminal CuII ion is O,N,N′-coordinated by a 2-{[(2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-4-yl)imino]methyl}phenolate ligand and an O atom from an acetate group in a slightly distorted tetrahedral coordination environment. The symmetry-unique central CuII ion is coordinated by a different O atom of the same acetate group and by four bridging acetate ligands, which connect the asymmetric unit into a dimeric complex and form a slightly distorted square-pyramidal coordination environment. The title compound, [Cu4(CH3COO)6(C16H23N2O)2], lies across a twofold rotation axis. The asymmetric unit contains two independent CuII ions. The symmetry-unique terminal CuII ion is O,N,N′-coordinated by a 2-{[(2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidin-4-yl)imino]methyl}phenolate ligand and an O atom from an acetate group in a slightly distorted square-planar coordination environment. The symmetry-unique central CuII ion is coordinated by a different O atom from the same acetate group and by four bridging acetate ligands, which connect the asymmetric unit into a dimeric complex and form a distorted square-pyramidal coordination environment. Within the complex there are two symmetry-equivalent intramolecular N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds. In the crystal, weak C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds link the complex molecules, forming a three-dimensional network.

Abstract
In the centrosymmetric tetranuclear title complex, [Ni4(C12H15NO3)2(CH3COO)2(N3)2(CH3OH)2]·2CH3OH, the asymmetric unit comprises half of a complex molecule and a methanol solvent molecule. The NiII ions display two different coordination environments: (i) two O atoms from the Schiff base ligand, two O atoms from symmetry-related methanol molecules and an O atom from an acetate group, one N atom from the azide group, and (ii) two O atoms and one N atom from the Schiff base, one O atom from methanol, one O atom from the acetate anion, and one N atom from the azide group. Four coplanar NiII ions are connected by two μ2-bridging O atoms from the two deprotonated Schiff bases, two μ3-O atoms from methanol molecules, two μ1,1-N atoms from two azide ions, and four O atoms from acetate groups. The shortest Ni⋯Ni distance in the tetranuclear unit is 2.962 (2) Å. O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds between the methanol solvent molecule and an acetate O atom feature in the crystal packing.
