Abstract
Photoactive main-group complexes have been relatively underexplored in photocatalytic applications. Herein, we report a family of indium(III) complexes (In-1-In-4) containing pyridylpyrrolide ligands with different amounts of methyl groups, which all exhibit intense visible-light absorption as well as blue-green emission with nanosecond emission lifetimes and emission quantum yields of 6.7-12.5%. Electrochemical studies and quantum chemical calculations indicate that their (photo-)redox processes involve only ligand-centered events, which efficiently mediate photocatalytic dehalogenation and olefin reduction.

Abstract
Exploiting noble-metal-free systems for high-performance photocatalytic CO2 reduction still presents a key challenge, partially due to the long-standing difficulties in developing potent and durable earth-abundant photosensitizers. Therefore, based on the very cheap aluminum metal, we have deployed a systematic series of homoleptic Al(III) photosensitizers featuring 2-pyridylpyrrolide ligands for CO2 photoreduction. The combined studies of steady-state and time-resolved spectroscopy as well as quantum chemical calculations demonstrate that in anerobic CH3CN solutions at room temperature, visible-light excitation of the Al(III) photosensitizers leads to an efficient population of singlet excited states with nanosecond-scale lifetimes and notable emission quantum yields (10-40%). The results of transient absorption spectroscopy further identified the presence of emissive singlet and unexpectedly nonemissive triplet excited states. More importantly, the introduction of methyl groups at the pyrrolide rings can greatly improve the visible-light absorption, reducing power, and durability of the Al(III) photosensitizers. With triethanolamine, BIH (1,3-dimethyl-2-phenyl-2,3-dihydro-1H-benzo[d]imidazole), and an Fe(II)-quaterpyridine catalyst, the most methylated Al(III) photosensitizer achieves an apparent quantum efficiency of 2.8% at 450 nm for selective (>99%) CO2-to-CO conversion, which is nearly 28 times that of the unmethylated one (0.1%) under identical conditions. The optimal system realizes a maximum turnover number of 10250 and higher robustness than the systems with Ru(II) and Cu(I) benchmark photosensitizers. Quenching experiments using fluorescence spectroscopy elucidate that the photoinduced electron transfer in the Al(III)-sensitized system follows a reductive quenching pathway. The remarkable tunability and cost efficiency of these Al(III) photosensitizers should allow them as promising components in noble-metal-free systems for solar fuel conversion.

Abstract
A geometrically constrained phosphenium cation in bis(pyrrolyl)pyridine based NNN pincer type ligand (1+ ) was synthesized, isolated and its preliminary reactivity was studied with small molecules. 1+ reacts with MeOH and Et2 NH, activating the O-H and N-H bonds via a P-center/ligand assisted path. The reaction of 1+ with one equiv. of H3 NBH3 leads to its dehydrogenation producing 5. Interestingly, reaction of 1+ with an excess H3 NBH3 leads to phosphinidene (PI ) species coordinating to two BH3 molecules (6). In contrast, [1+ ][OTf] reacts with Et3 SiH by hydride abstraction yielding 1-H and Et3 SiOTf, while [1+ ][B(C6 F5 )4 ] reacts with Et3 SiH via an oxidative addition type reaction of Si-H bond to P-center, affording a new PV compound (8). However, 8 is not stable over time and degrades to a complex mixture of compounds in matter of minutes. Despite this, the ability of [1+ ][B(C6 F5 )4 ] to activate Si-H bond could still be tested in catalytic hydrosilylation of benzaldehyde, where 1+ closely mimics transition metal behaviour.

Abstract
In our previous communication, we have reported the synthesis of a new chlorogermylene (B) featuring a pyridylpyrrolido ligand. This study details the preparation of a series of new germylenes and stannylenes starting from B. A transmetallation reaction between B and SnCl2 led to the analogous chlorostannylene (1) with the simultaneous elimination of GeCl2. This is a very unusual example of transmetallation between two elements of the same group. The preparation of 1via lithiation led to the formation of 2 as a side product, where the ortho C-H bond of the pyridine ring was activated and functionalized with a nBu moiety. Subsequently, B and 1 were used as precursors to generate germylene (4) and stannylene (5) featuring tris(trimethylsilyl)silyl (hypersilyl) moieties. We also prepared tetrafluoropyridyl germylene (6) by reacting 4 with C5F5N with the simultaneous elimination of (Me3Si)3SiF by utilizing the fluoride affinity of the silicon atom. As there is scarcity of Sn(II) compounds as single-site catalysts, we investigated 5 as a catalyst towards the hydroboration of aldehydes, ketones, alkenes and alkynes. All the compounds have been characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and by state of the art spectroscopic studies.

Abstract

The synthesis and the electrochemical, photophysical, structural,
and photoconductive properties of three new heteroleptic Pd(II) complexes
with various 3′,5′- disubstituted-2-(2′-pyridil)
pyrroles H(N^N) as coordinated ligands are reported. The coordination
of the metal center was completed by a functionalized Schiff base
H(O^N) used as an ancillary ligand. The [(N^N)Pd(O^N)] complexes showed
highly interesting photoconductive properties which have been correlated
to their electronic and molecular structures. Theoretical density
functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT calculations were performed,
and the results were confronted with the organization in crystalline
phase, allowing to point out that the photoconductive properties are
mainly a consequence of an efficient intramolecular ligand-to-metal
charge transfer, combined to the proximity between the central metal
and the donor moieties in the solid-state molecular stacks. The reported
results confirm that these new Pd(II) complexes form a novel class
of organometallic photoconductors with intrinsic characteristics suitable
for molecular semiconductors applications. The first evidence of enhancement of the role of d* orbitals
in improving photoconduction in crystalline Pd(II) complexes comprising
2-(2′-pyridyl)pyrroles.

Abstract
To explore structure-activity relationships with respect to light-harvesting behavior, a family of neutral iridium complexes [Ir(ppy)2(LR)] 1-4 (where ppy = 2-phenylpyridine, and N̂N = 2-(1H-pyrrol-2-yl)pyridine and its functionalized derivatives) were designed and synthesized. The structural modifications in metal complexes are accomplished through the attributions of electron-donating CH3 in 2, OCH3 in 3, and electron-withdrawing CF3 in 4. The structural analysis displays that the pyridylpyrrole acts as one-negative charged bidentated ligand to chelate the iridium center. The electrochemical and photophysical properties of these complexes were systematically studied. The neutral 1-4 as well as the ionic structurally analogous [Ir(ppy)2(bpy)](PF6) (5) were utilized as PSs in photocatalytic hydrogen generation from water with [Co(bpy)3](PF6)2 as catalyst and triethanolamine (TEOA) as electron sacrificial agent in the presence of salt LiCl. Complex 1 maintains activity for more than 144 h under irradiation, and the total turnover number is up to 1768. The electrochemical properties and the quenching reaction indicate the H2 generation by neutral complexes 1-4 is involved exclusively in the oxidative quenching process.

Abstract
A nacnac-based tridentate ligand containing a picolyl group (L) was employed to isolate chlorogermylene (1). The reaction of 1 with another equivalent of GeCl2·dioxane surprisingly gave pyridylpyrrolide-based chlorogermylene (2) via C-N bond cleavage and C-C coupling, while with AlCl3, it afforded a transmetalated product, 4. The reaction of L with AlH3·NMe2Et led to an unusual cyclohexane type six-membered dialane heterocycle (5).

Abstract
Treatment of [Ir(PPh3)3Cl] with 2-[5-(pyridin-2-yl)-1H-pyrrol-2-yl]pyridine (Hdpp) in refluxing toluene affords an unexpected pyrrole-metalated iridium(III) hydride complex, [Ir(K2C,N-dpp)(H)(Cl)(PPh3)2] (1), via Cpyrrole-H activation, while the presence of the base KOtBu as the deprotonation reagent produces a pyridine-metalated iridium(III) hydride complex, [Ir(K3C,N,N-dpp)(H)(PPh3)2] (2), via Cpyridine-H activation. Treatment of [Ir(PPh3)3Cl] prepared by a convenient method with Hdpp in the presence of KOtBu under the refluxing mixture solvent toluene/methanol (2:1, v/v) generates the N,N-chelating complex [Ir(K2N,N-dpp)(H)(Cl)(PPh3)2] (3) together with 1 and the N,N-chelating dihydride complex [Ir(K2N,N-dpp)(H)2(PPh3)2] (4). Complex 4 is also readily produced by the reaction of [Ir(PPh3)3Cl] and Hdpp in the presence of KOtBu under refluxing methanol or by the reaction of IrCl3 and PPh3 in refluxing 2-ethoxyethanol. Complexes 1-4 are fully characterized by NMR, IR, and UV-vis spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis. The dpp-/dpp2- ligand shows rich coordination capability, of which pyridine- and pyrrole-cyclometalated coordination modes are first reported. The formation of structural isomers 1 and 3 involved the selective activation of the C-H and N-H bonds of Hdpp is rationalized by theoretical calculations.

Abstract
Luminescent seven-coordinated zirconium and hafnium complexes bearing three mono-anionic 2,2'-pyridylpyrrolide ligands and one chloride were synthesized. Solid-state structures and the dynamic behaviors in solution were probed by X-ray crystallography and variable temperature 1 H NMR experiments, respectively. Absorption spectroscopy and time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) calculations supported a hybrid of ligand-to-metal charge transfer (LMCT)/ligand-to-ligand charge transfer (LLCT) for the visible light absorption band. The complexes (Me PMPMe )3 MCl (M=Zr, Hf, Me PMPMe =3,5-dimethyl-2-(2-pyridyl)pyrrolide) are emissive in solution at room temperature upon irradiation with visible light due to a combination of phosphorescence and fluorescence characterized by excited state lifetimes in the μs and low to sub-ns timescale, respectively. Electrochemical experiments revealed that the zirconium complex possesses a reversible redox event under highly reducing condition (-2.29 V vs. Fc+/0 ).

Abstract
The synthesis and X-ray crystal structure of a potassium adduct of a monoanionic CNC-pincer ligand featuring two mesoionic carbenes is reported. Owing to the peculiar electronic and steric properties of this ligand, the first neutral stable Ni(II)-hydride, and an unusual Cu(II) complex displaying a seesaw geometry, have been isolated.

Abstract
Iron(III) complexes of the tris(pyrrolide)ethane trianion have been synthesized by reaction of one- and two-electron oxidants with [(tpe)Fe(THF)][Li(THF)4] (tpe = tris(5-mesitylpyrrolyl)ethane). X-ray crystallography, (57)Fe Mössbauer, (1)H NMR and EPR spectroscopy, SQUID magnetometry, and density functional theory calculations were employed to rigorously establish the iron 3+ oxidation state. All oxidants employed are proposed to operate via an inner-sphere electron transfer mechanism. Dialkyl peroxides and dibenzyldisulfide served to oxidize iron by one electron, and group transfer of an aryl nitrene unit to the Fe(2+) starting material resulted in formation of Fe(3+) amido species following H-atom abstraction by a presumed nitrenoid intermediate. Single electron transfer to and from diphenyldiazoalkane was also observed to yield a diphenyldiazomethanyl radical anion antiferromagnetically coupled to the S = 5/2 Fe(3+). Isolation of Fe(3+) complexes of tpe, in comparison with previous results wherein the tpe ligand was the redox active moiety, presents an unusual juxtaposition of two noncommunicating redox reservoirs, each accessible via different reaction pathways (namely, inner- and outer-sphere electron transfer).

Abstract
The synthesis and characterization of the first heteroleptic pyrrolide/2,2′-bipyridyl complexes of ruthenium(II) are reported. Pyrroles substituted at the 2-position with X = O functionality react with Ru(bipy)2Cl2·2H2O to form complexes in which the pyrrolide ligands chelate to Ru(II). The library of pyrroles includes 2-formyl, 2-keto, 2-carboxylato, 2-sulfinyl, and 2-sulfonyl derivatives.
