Abstract
The interactions of amino acid side-chains confer diverse energetic contributions and physical properties to a protein's stability and function. Various computational tools estimate the effect of changing a given amino acid on the protein's stability based on parametrized (free) energy functions. When parametrized for the prediction of protein stability in water, such energy functions can lead to suboptimal results for other solvents, such as ionic liquids (IL), aqueous ionic liquids (aIL), or salt solutions. However, to our knowledge, no comprehensive data are available describing the energetic effects of aIL on intramolecular protein interactions. Here, we present the most comprehensive set of potential of mean force (PMF) profiles of pairwise protein-residue interactions to date, covering 50 relevant interactions in water, the two biotechnologically relevant aIL [BMIM/Cl] and [BMIM/TfO], and [Na/Cl]. These results are based on a cumulated simulation time of >1 ms. aIL and salt ions can weaken, but also strengthen, specific residue interactions by more than 3 kcal mol-1, depending on the residue pair, residue-residue configuration, participating ions, and concentration, necessitating considering such interactions specifically. These changes originate from a complex interplay of competitive or cooperative noncovalent ion-residue interactions, changes in solvent structural dynamics, or unspecific charge screening effects and occur at the contact distance but also at larger, solvent-separated distances. This data provide explanations at the atomistic and energetic levels for complex IL effects on protein stability and should help improve the prediction accuracies of computational tools that estimate protein stability based on (free) energy functions.

Abstract
Three coordination polymers (CPs 1-3) are prepared based on diverse electron-donating properties and coordination arrangements of conjugated ligands. Interestingly, this is also reflected in their photophysical properties. The distinguishable high emissive nature of the luminescent coordination polymer shows its potentiality toward the detection of the perilous substance 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (TNP) or picric acid (PA). TNP has a higher propensity among explosive nitroaromatic compounds (epNACs) due to its significant π···π interaction with the free benzene moieties present in the CPs. Among CPs 1-3, 2 exhibits the highest sensitivity and selectivity toward TNP because of the most favorable π-π stacking with the conjugated organic linker. The calculated limit of detection (LOD) and corresponding quenching constant (KSV) from the Stern-Volmer (SV) plot for 1, 2, and 3 are found to be 0.68 μM and 7.49 × 104 M-1, 0.41 μM and 8.01 × 104 M-1, and 1.18 μM and 8.1 × 104 M-1, respectively. The fluorescence quenching mechanism is also highly influenced by their structure and coordination arrangement.

Abstract
A family of four novel pyrazinyl-hydrazone based ligands have been synthesized with differing functionality at the 5-position of the central aromatic ring. Previous work has shown such ligands to form dinuclear triple mesocates which pack to form hexagonal channels capable of gas sorption. The effect of the peripheral functionality of the ligand on the crystal packing was investigated by synthesizing complexes 1 to 4 which feature amino, bromo, iodo and methoxy substituents respectively. Complexes 1 to 3 crystallized in the same hexagonal space group P63 /m and featured 1D channels. However, on closer inspection while the packing of 1 is mediated by hydrogen bonding interactions, the packing of complexes 2 and 3 are not, due to a subtlety different π-π stacking interaction enforced by the halogen substituent. The more bulky nature of the methoxy substituent of 4 results in the complex crystallizing in the triclinic space group P-1, featuring an entirely different crystal packing.

Abstract
Five new heterometallic Cu(ii)-Mn(ii) discrete trinuclear complexes, [(CuL)2Mn(CH3COO)2] (1), [(CuL)2Mn(NO3)2] (2), [(CuL)2Mn(C6H5COO)(H2O)]Cl (3), [(CuL)2Mn((p-OH)C6H5COO)(H2O)]ClO4 (4) and [(CuL)2Mn(HCOO)(H2O)]ClO4 (5), have been synthesized using a metalloligand, CuL derived from an N2O2 donor Schiff base, H2L (N,N'-bis(α-methylsalicylidene)-1,3-propanediamine). Single-crystal structural analyses reveal that all five complexes have a common [(CuL)2Mn] core, where two terminal metalloligands, CuL, are connected to the central metal ion, Mn(ii), via double phenoxido bridges. Among the complexes, 1 and 2 possess linear structures where the terminal Cu(ii) atoms are bridged to the central Mn(ii) atoms by acetate and nitrate ions, respectively along with the double phenoxido bridges, whereas 3, 4 and 5 have bent structures in which the respective anionic coligands, benzoate, p-hydroxybenzoate and formate ions are coordinated only to central Mn(ii) in monodentate fashion along with a water molecule that completes its hexa-coordinated geometry. Among the complexes, 1, 3, 4 and 5 show quite high bio-mimicking catecholase-like activity for the aerial oxidation of 3,5-di-tert-butylcatechol with turnover numbers (Kcat) of 139 h-1, 439 h-1, 348 h-1 and 730 h-1, respectively, whereas complex 2 is practically inactive towards this reaction. The presence of the coordinated water molecule to Mn(ii) in the bent complexes, 3-5, appears to be responsible for their high catalytic activity and the difference in their activity may be attributed to steric crowding due to the anionic coligand, whereas the inactivity of 2 seems to be associated with the low basicity of the nitrate ion. The temperature-dependent dc molar magnetic susceptibility measurements reveal that complexes 1-5 are antiferromagnetically coupled with the exchange coupling constants (J) = -8.54 cm-1, -11.50 cm-1, -19.83 cm-1, -10.65 cm-1 and -10.27 cm-1 for 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 respectively as is expected from the Cu-O-Mn bridging angles.

Abstract
The anti-conformation of chloranilate bridged di-copper complexes of NNO donor Schiff-base ligands is more stable than the syn-conformation, but the latter is stabilised by CH⋯π and hydrogen bonding interactions between solvent of crystallisation and chloranilate moieties.

Abstract
In this paper we have explored the structural and energetic landscape of potential π(+)-π(+) stacked motifs, hydrogen-bonding arrangements and anion-π(+) interactions for gas-phase ion pair (IP) conformers and IP-dimers of 1,3-dimethylimidazolium chloride, [C1C1im]Cl. We classify cation-cation ring stacking as an electron deficient π(+)-π(+) interaction, and a competitive anion on-top IP motif as an anion-donor π(+)-acceptor interaction. 21 stable IP-dimers have been obtained within an energy range of 0-126 kJ mol(-1). The structures have been found to exhibit a complex interplay of structural features. We have found that low energy IP-dimers are not necessarily formed from the lowest energy IP conformers. The sampled range of IP-dimers exhibits new structural forms that cannot be recovered by examining the ion-pairs alone, moreover the IP-dimers are recovering additional key features of the local liquid structure. Including dispersion is shown to impact both the relative energy ordering and the geometry of the IPs and IP-dimers, however the impact is found to be subtle and dependent on the underlying functional.
