Abstract
We report the use of the reported Fe-phthalocyanine complex, PcFe (1; Pc = 1,4,8,11,15,18,22,25-octaethoxy-phthalocyanine), to generate PcFe-amine complexes 1-(NH3)2, 1-(MeNH2)2, and 1-(Me2NH)2. Treatment of 1 or 1-(NH3)2 to an excess of the stable aryloxide radical, 2,4,6-tritert-butylphenoxyl radical (tBuArO•), under NH3 resulted in catalytic H atom abstraction (HAA) and C-N coupling to generate the product 4-amino-2,4,6-tritert-butylcyclohexa-2,5-dien-1-one (2) and tBuArOH. Exposing 1-(NH3)2 to an excess of the trityl (CPh3) variant, 2,6-di-tert-butyl-4-tritylphenoxyl radical (TrArO•), under NH3 did not lead to catalytic ammonia oxidation as previously reported in a related Ru-porphyrin complex. However, pronounced coordination-induced bond weakening of both α N-H and β C-H in the alkylamine congeners, 1-(MeNH2)2 and 1-(Me2NH)2, led to multiple HAA events yielding the unsaturated cyanide complex, 1-(MeNH2)(CN), and imine complex, 1-(MeN═CH2)2, respectively. Subsequent C-N bond formation was also observed in the latter upon addition of a coordinating ligand. Detailed computational studies support an alternating mechanism involving sequential N-H and C-H HAA to generate these unsaturated products.

Abstract
Ruthenium compounds have been shown to be promising alternatives to platinum(II) drugs. However, their clinical success depends on achieving mechanisms of action that overcome Pt-resistance mechanisms. Electron-deficient organoruthenium complexes are an understudied class of compounds that exhibit unusual reactivity in solution and might offer novel anticancer mechanisms of action. Here, we evaluate the in vitro and in vivo anticancer properties of the electron-deficient organoruthenium complex [(p-cymene)Ru(maleonitriledithiolate)]. This compound is found to be highly cytotoxic: 5 to 60 times more potent than cisplatin towards ovarian (A2780 and A2780cisR), colon (HCT116 p53+/+ and HCT116 p53-/-), and non-small cell lung H460 cancer cell lines. It shows no cross-resistance and is equally cytotoxic to both A2780 and A2780cisR cell lines. Furthermore, unlike cisplatin, the remarkable in vitro antiproliferative activity of this compound appears to be p53-independent. In vivo evaluation in the hollow-fibre assay across a panel of cancer cell types and subcutaneous H460 non-small cell lung cancer xenograft model hints at the activity of the complex. Although the impressive in vitro data are not fully corroborated by the in vivo follow-up, this work is the first preclinical study of electron-deficient half-sandwich complexes and highlights their promise as anticancer drug candidates.

Abstract
The synthesis, structures, and magnetic properties of monomeric half-sandwich iron and cobalt imidazolin-2-iminato complexes have been comprehensively investigated. Salt metathesis reactions of [Cp'M(μ-I)]2 (1-M, M = Fe, Co; Cp' = η5-1,2,4-tri-tert-butylcyclopentadienyl) with [ImDippNLi]2 (ImDippN = 1,3-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imidazolin-2-iminato) furnishes the terminal half-sandwich compounds [Cp'M(NImDipp)] (2-M, M = Fe, Co), which can be regarded as models for elusive half-sandwich iron and cobalt imido complexes. X-ray diffraction analysis confirmed the structure motif of a one-legged piano stool. Complex 2-Co can also be prepared by an acid-base reaction between [Cp'Co{N(SiMe3)2}] (3-Co) and ImDippNH. The electronic and magnetic properties of 2-M and 3-Co were probed by 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy (M = Fe), X-band EPR spectroscopy (M = Co), and solid-state magnetic susceptibility measurements. In particular, the central metal atom adopts a high-spin (S = 2) state in 2-Fe, while the cobalt complex 2-Co represents a rare example of a Co(II) species with a coordination number different from six displaying a low-spin to high-spin spin-crossover (SCO) behavior. The experimental observations are complemented by DFT calculations.

Abstract
The half-sandwich complex [Cp'Fe(μ-I)]2 (1; Cp' = η5-1,2,4-(Me3C)3C5H2) is cleaved when heated in toluene to form a cation-anion pair [{Cp'Fe(η6-toluene)}+{Cp'FeI2}-] (2), in which the two Fe(ii) atoms adopt different spin states, i.e., a low-spin (S = 0) and a high-spin (S = 2) configuration. Upon oxidation of 1 with C2H4I2, the thermally stable 15VE species [Cp'FeI2] (3) can be isolated, in which the Fe(iii) atom adopts an intermediate spin (S = 3/2) configuration. Complex 3 is an excellent starting material for further functionalizations and it reacts with Mg(CH2SiMe3)2 to form the unprecedented Fe(iii) (S = 3/2) bis(alkyl) complex [Cp'Fe(CH2SiMe3)2] (4). The respective spin states of complexes 2-4 are confirmed by single-crystal X-ray crystallography, zero-field 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy, and solid-state magnetic susceptibility measurements. In contrast to the related 14VE high-spin (S = 2) Fe(ii) alkyl species [Cp'FeCH(SiMe3)2], which resists the reaction with H2 as a consequence of a spin-induced reaction barrier, complex 4 reacts cleanly with H2 (8 bar) in cyclohexane to yield iron hydrides [{Cp'Fe}2(μ-H)3] (5) and [Cp'Fe(μ-H)2]2 (6) in a 1 : 4 ratio. However, when the hydrogenation of 4 is carried out in benzene, a green 19VE [Cp'Fe(η6-C6H6)] (A) intermediate is formed, which dimerizes to the bis(cyclohexadienyl)-bridged product [(Cp'Fe)2(μ2-η5:η5-C12H12)] (7). Further evidence for the intermediacy of [Cp'Fe(η6-C6H6)] (A) was gathered by X-band EPR and UV/vis spectroscopy. Interestingly, attempts to oxidize 7 with AgSbF6 proceeded via C-C bond cleavage instead of metal oxidation to form [Cp'Fe(C6H6)][SbF6] (8).

Abstract
We report an evaluation of the cytotoxicity of a series of electron-deficient (16-electron) half-sandwich precious metal complexes of ruthenium, osmium and iridium ([Os/Ru(η6-p-cymene)(1,2-dicarba-closo-dodecarborane-1,2-dithiolato)] (1/2), [Ir(η5-pentamethylcyclopentadiene)(1,2-dicarba-closo-dodecarborane-1,2-dithiolato)] (3), [Os/Ru(η6-p-cymene)(benzene-1,2-dithiolato)] (4/5) and [Ir(η5-pentamethylcyclopentadiene)(benzene-1,2-dithiolato)] (6)) towards RAW 264.7 murine macrophages and MRC-5 fibroblast cells. Complexes 3 and 6 were found to be non-cytotoxic. The anti-inflammatory activity of 1-6 was evaluated in both cell lines after nitric oxide (NO) production and inflammation response induced by bacterial endotoxin lipopolysaccharide (LPS) as the stimulus. All metal complexes were shown to exhibit dose-dependent inhibitory effects on LPS-induced NO production on both cell lines. Remarkably, the two iridium complexes 3 and 6 trigger a full anti-inflammatory response against LPS-induced NO production, which opens up new avenues for the development of non-cytotoxic anti-inflammatory drug candidates with distinct structures and solution chemistry from that of organic drugs, and as such with potential novel mechanisms of action.

Abstract
Facile pseudohalide activation occurs in the reaction of SCN–, SeCN– and N3– with the iron half-sandwich [Cp′Fe(μ-I)]2.
The iron half-sandwich [Cp′Fe(μ-I)]2 (Cp′ = 1,2,4-(Me3C)3C5H2, 1) reacts with the pseudohalides NCO–, SCN–, SeCN– and N3– to give [Cp′Fe(μ-NCO)]2 (2), [Cp′Fe(μ-S)]2 (3), [Cp′Fe(μ-Se2)]2 (4) and [Cp′Fe(μ-N)]2 (5), respectively. Various spectroscopic techniques including X-ray diffraction, solid-state magnetic susceptibility studies and 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy were employed in the characterization of these species. Mössbauer spectroscopy shows a decreasing isomer shift with increasing formal oxidation state, ranging from Fe(ii) to Fe(iv), in complexes 1 to 5. The sulfido-bridged dimer 3 exhibits strong antiferromagnetic coupling between the Fe(iii) centers. This leads to temperature-independent paramagnetism (TIP) at low temperature, from which the energy gap between the ground and the excited state can be estimated to be 2J = ca. 700 cm–1. The iron(iv) nitrido complex [Cp′Fe(μ-N)]2 (5) shows no reactivity towards H2 (10 atm), but undergoes clean reactions with CO (5 bar) and XylNC (Xyl = 2,6-Me2C6H3) to form the diamagnetic isocyanate and carbodiimide complexes [Cp′Fe(CO)2(NCO)] (7) and [Cp′Fe(CNXyl)2(NCNXyl)] (8), respectively. All compounds were fully characterized, and density functional theory (DFT) computations provide useful insights into their formation and the electronic structures of complexes 3 and 5.

Abstract
The preparation of new stable half-sandwich transition metal complexes, having a bulky cyclopentadienyl ligand C5(C6H4-4-Et)5 (Cp(Ar1)) or C5(C6H4-4-nBu)5 (Cp(Ar2)), is reported. The tetrahydrofuran (THF) adduct [Cp(Ar1)Fe(μ-Br)(THF)]2 (1a) was synthesized by reacting K[Cp(Ar1)] with [FeBr2(THF)2] in THF, and its molecular structure was determined by X-ray crystallography. Complex 1a easily loses its coordinated THF molecules under vacuum to form the solvent-free complex [Cp(Ar1)Fe(μ-Br)]2 (1b). The analogous complexes [Cp(Ar1)Co(μ-Br)]2 (2), [Cp(Ar1)Ni(μ-Br)]2 (3), and [Cp(Ar2)Ni(μ-Br)]2 (4) were synthesized from CoBr2 and [NiBr2(1,2-dimethoxyethane)]. The mononuclear, low-spin cobalt(III) and nickel(III) complexes [Cp(Ar2)MI2] (5, M = Co; 6, M = Ni) were prepared by reacting the radical Cp(Ar2) with NiI2 and CoI2. The complexes were characterized by NMR and UV-vis spectroscopies and by elemental analyses. Single-crystal X-ray structure analyses revealed that the dimeric complexes 1a, 1b, and 3 have a planar M2Br2 core, whereas 2 and 4 feature a puckered M2Br2 ring.
