Abstract
Recent advances in visible light photocatalysis represent a significant stride towards sustainable catalytic chemistry. However, its successful implementation in fine chemical production remains challenging and requires careful optimization of available photocatalysts. Our work aims to structurally modify bioinspired porphyrin catalysts, addressing issues related to their laborious synthesis and low solubility, with the goal of increasing their efficiency and developing reusable catalytic systems. We have demonstrated the catalytic potential of readily available meso-tetrakis[4-(diethoxyphosphoryl)phenyl]porphyrins (M(TPPP)). Novel metal (Pd(II), Co(II) and In(III)) complexes with this ligand were prepared in good yields. These chromophores were characterized in solution using spectroscopic (NMR, UV-vis, fluorescence) and electrochemical methods. The introduction of phosphonate groups on the phenyl substituents of meso-tetraphenylporphyrins (M(TPP)) improves solubility in polar organic solvents without significantly altering the photophysical properties and photostability of complexes. This structural modification also leads to easier reductions and harder oxidations of the macrocycle for all investigated complexes compared to the corresponding TPP derivatives. The free base porphyrin, zinc(II), palladium(II), and indium(III) complexes were studied as photocatalysts for oxidation of sulfides to sulfoxides using molecular oxygen as a terminal oxidant. Both dialkyl and alkyl aryl sulfides were quantitatively transformed into sulfoxides under blue LED irradiation in the acetonitrile-water mixture (10 : 1 v/v) with a low loading (0.005-0.05 mol%) of porphyrin photocatalysts, where H2(TPPP) and Pd(TPPP) were found to be the most efficient. The reaction mechanism was studied using photoluminescence and EPR spectroscopies. Then, to access reusable catalysts, water-soluble derivatives bearing phosphonic acid groups, H2(TPPP-A) and Pd(TPPP-A), were prepared in high yields. These compounds were characterized using spectroscopic methods. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis of Pd(TPPP-A) reveals that the complex forms a 3D hydrogen-bonded organic framework (HOF) in the solid state. Both H2(TPPP-A) and Pd(TPPP-A) were found to catalyze the photooxidation of sulfides by molecular oxygen in the acetonitrile-water mixture (1 : 1 v/v), while only Pd(TPPP-A) resulted in selective production of sulfoxides. The complex Pd(TPPP-A) was easily recovered through extraction in the aqueous phase and successfully reused in five consecutive cycles of the sulfoxidation reaction.

Abstract
Porphyrin-based metal-organic frameworks (PMOFs) are a kind of crystal hybrid material with broad application prospects in energy, catalysis, biomedicine, and other fields. In this study, the La-TCPP PMOF nanocrystal was constructed using a porphyrin ligand and La ion. This material can produce a high loading rate on doxorubicin (DOX) owing to its special porous structure. The high loading rate of drug molecules and the reactive oxygen species (ROS) of the porphyrin ligand enable La-TCPP@DOX nanocrystal to produce a powerful killing effect on cancer cells under the synergistic attack of chemotherapy (CT) and photodynamic therapy (PDT). Finally, by modifying the targeted aptamer, the actual therapeutic effect of this special La-TCPP@DOX@Apt material on tumors was confirmed by applying the established mouse tumor model. The composite nanomaterial not only avoids the side effects caused by high concentrations of chemotherapeutic drugs, but also overcomes the limitation of PDT owing to insufficient light penetration and can inhibit and kill solid tumors under the condition of synergistic attack. This study is a complement to PMOF crystal materials, and its tumor-killing ability was achieved by loading drugs and introducing targeting molecules, which proves that the synergistic attack can more effectively inhibit and treat solid tumors. These studies have a reference and guiding significance for the treatment of cancer patients.

Abstract
Three copper dibenzoporphyrin(2.1.2.1) complexes having two dipyrromethene units connected through o-phenylen bridges and 4-MePh, Ph, or F5Ph substituents at the meso positions of the dipyrrins were synthesized and characterized according to their spectral, electrochemical, and structural properties. As indicated by the single-crystal X-ray structures, all three derivatives have highly bent molecular structures, with angles between each planar dipyrrin unit ranging from 89° to 85°, indicative of a nonaromatic molecule. The insertion of copper(II) into dibenzoporphyrins(2.1.2.1) induced a change in the macrocyclic cavity shape from rectangular in the case of the free-base precursors to approximately square for the metalated copper derivatives. Solution electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra at 100 K showed hyperfine coupling of the Cu(II) central metal ion and the N nucleus in the highly bent molecular structures. Electrochemical measurements in CH2Cl2 or N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) containing 0.1 M tetrabutylammonium perchlorate (TBAP) were consistent with ring-centered electron transfers and, in the case of reduction, were assigned to electron additions involving two equivalent π centers on the bent nonaromatic molecule. The potential separation between the two reversible one-electron reductions ranged from 230 to 400 mV in DMF, indicating a moderate-to-strong interaction between the equivalent redox-active dipyrrin units of the dibenzoporphyrins(2.1.2.1). The experimentally measured highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO)-lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) gaps ranged from 2.14 to 2.04 eV and were smaller than those seen for the planar copper tetraarylporphyrins(1.1.1.1), (Ar)4PCu.

Abstract
Four tetrabutano and tetrabenzoporphyrins containing sterically hindered meso-(2,6-difluorophenyl) substituents and copper(II) or manganese(III) central metal ions were synthesized and characterized as to their electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical properties in nonaqueous media. The copper(II) derivatives exhibit the expected two one-electron reductions to give [Formula: see text]-anion radicals and dianions in CH2Cl2. Electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical data suggest that a Cu(II) phlorin anion is generated from the doubly reduced Cu(II) butanoporphyrin and it is this species which undergoes the third reduction in pyridine. The first one-electron reduction of the Mn(III) porphyrins is metal-centered to give a Mn(II) compound, while the second and third reductions are macrocycle-centered to give Mn(II) porphyrin [Formula: see text]-anion radicals and dianions in both CH2Cl2 and pyridine. A Mn(II) phlorin anion is also generated from the Mn(II) dianion on the spectroelectrochemical timescale under the given solution conditions. The [Formula: see text],[Formula: see text]-butano and benzo groups have a significant effect on the measured redox potentials. Steric hindrance of the meso-(2,6-difluorophenyl) substituents also has an effect on the potential separation between the first two oxidations of the benzoporphyrins.

Abstract
The self-assembly of seven zinc 10-(dialkoxyphosphoryl)-5,15-diarylporphyrinates Zn5-Zn11 containing different substituents at the phosphonate and aryl groups was investigated. Single crystals of Zn5-Zn9 complexes were grown under the same conditions and analyzed by X-ray structural analysis. A supramolecular self-assembly is observed in all crystals through weak coordinative bonding of the phosphoryl group of one porphyrin molecule to the zinc(ii) ion of a second molecule. The geometry of the porphyrin macrocycle is similar in all of the studied crystals and the central zinc atom in each case adopts a distorted tetragonal pyramidal environment. However, the Zn5-Zn7 porphyrins display a 1D polymeric structure while the Zn8 and Zn9 complexes exist as discrete cyclotetramers in the crystals. This data demonstrates that the non-coordinating meso-aryl substituents of meso-(dialkoxyphosphoryl)porphyrins influence their crystalline organization. A self-assembly of the Zn5-Zn11 complexes is also observed in toluene and chloroform solutions over a large temperature range (223-323 K). According to NMR studies, the associates exhibit dynamic behavior. A well-defined supramolecular aggregate of complex Zn10 at 10-3 M in toluene and chloroform solutions was unambiguously characterized as a cyclotetramer [Zn10]4 by 1H NMR spectroscopy at 223 K. The structure of the Zn10 association in toluene and chloroform shows a concentration dependence. When a solution of Zn10 in toluene was diluted from 10-3 M to 10-5 M, the average number of molecules in the associated unit decreased to about two.

Abstract
Three series of porphyrins containing a Zn(II) central metal ion and zero, one, or two phosphoryl groups at the meso-positions of the macrocycle were characterized as to their electrochemical, spectroscopic, and structural properties in nonaqueous media. The investigated compounds are represented as 5,15-bis(4'-R-phenyl)porphyrinatozinc, 10-(diethoxyphosphoryl)-5,15-bis(4'-R-phenyl)porphyrinatozinc, and 5,15-bis(diethoxyphosphoryl)-10,20-bis(4'-R-phenyl)porphyrinatozinc, where R = OMe, Me, H, or CN. Linear-free energy relationships are observed between the measured redox potentials at room temperature and the electronic nature of the substituents at the 5 and 15 meso-phenyl groups of the macrocycle. The mono- and bis-phosphoryl derivatives with two p-cyanophenyl substituents provide electrochemical evidence for aggregation at low temperature, a greater degree of aggregation being observed in the case of 5,15-bis(diethoxyphosphoryl)-10,20-bis(4'-cyanophenyl)porphyrinatozinc(II). This compound was characterized in further detail by variable-temperature 1H and 31P{1H} NMR spectroscopy in solution combined with single crystal X-ray analysis in the solid state. The data obtained from these measurements indicate that this porphyrin has a dimeric structure in CDCl3 at 223-323 K but forms a 2D polymeric network when it is crystallized from a CHCl3/MeOH mixture.

The soft phosphine donor was transformed into a hard phosphine oxide donor during the formation of 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6. The complexes 1-6 were air and moisture stable and were soluble in polar organic solvents. The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, and NMR spectroscopic methods. The molecular structures of 1, 2, 4, and 6 were analyzed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The UV-Visible absorption studies indicated that 1-6 in THF display strong visible light absorption in the range of ∼350-700 nm.

Abstract
Pd(II)-catalyzed C–H phosphonation with diethyl phosphite in the meso positions of mesityl-substituted porphyrins taken either as free base or Ni(II) and Zn(II) complexes has been investigated and the reaction conditions have been optimized. Ni(II) porphyrinates have been found to be advantageous over free porphyrins and their Zn(II) complexes. The possibility of diphosphonation was shown using 5,15-dimesityl porphyrin.

Abstract
The reaction of a phosphonate-diester tetraphenylmethane-based tecton, tetrakis[4-(diethoxyphosphoryl)phenyl]methane, (L) with cobalt(ii) chloride afforded a centrosymmetric coordination polymer (CP), [L·2Co(H2O)42+·2CoCl42-]n, 2-Cl, possessing simultaneously octahedral (Oh) and tetrahedral (Td) metal centers. This material served as a model compound for the demonstration of factors influencing the spectral dependence of one of the nonlinear optical (NLO) phenomena, the third-harmonic generation (THG). The spectrally-resolved THG (SR-THG) measurements in the range from 1125 to 1750 nm revealed that a maximum of THG response is obtained when the fundamental beam is around 1300 nm. The SR-THG study was combined with an analysis of the self-absorption effects of pumping and of third-harmonic radiation; based on these results, we put forward a hypothesis that the THG action spectrum is influenced more by the ability of the material to self-absorb the third harmonic rather than by the extent of self-absorption of the pumping radiation. Apart from investigations of NLO properties, we have explored coordination and particularly the supramolecular interactions that build up the 2-Cl CP. Despite the tetrahedral, spatial shape of the ligand L, CP 2-Cl has a two-dimensional net. The structure was found to be strongly supported by O-HCl hydrogen bonds, since each CoCl42- complex anion is an acceptor of eight of such interactions within a distorted square grid layer of cobalt(ii) ions. While coordination and hydrogen-bonded nets are both featuring the sql topology when treated separately, the consideration of both of them as topological paths yields a trinodal 4,4,6-connected net, described by the point symbol (42·84)(45·6)2(46·66·83)2. SR-THG and structural studies of 2-Cl have been also supported by far- and mid-infrared spectroscopy, UV-Vis-NIR solid state absorption analysis, thermogravimetry and preliminary magnetic characterization.

Abstract
Diphenylphosphine-oxide-fused NiII porphyrin 8 was synthesized from 3,5,7-trichloroporphyrin 5 via a reaction sequence of nucleophilic aromatic substitution with lithium diphenylphosphide, oxidation with H2 O2 , and palladium-catalyzed intramolecular cyclization. Reduction of 8 with HSiCl3 gave diphenylphosphine-fused NiII porphyrin 9. The embedded P=O and P moieties serve as a strong electron-accepting and electron-donating group to perturb the optical and electrochemical properties of the NiII porphyrin. NiII porphyrin 9 is diamagnetic with a low-spin NiII center in solution but becomes paramagnetic with a five-coordinated NiII center with high-spin (S=1) state in the solid state. Diphenylphosphine-oxide-fused ZnII porphyrin 10 was also synthesized and shown to form a face-to-face dimer with mutual O-Zn bonds in the crystal and in nonpolar and moderately polar solvents. The dimerization of 10 in CDCl3 has been revealed to be an entropy-driven process with a large entropy gain (ΔSD =207 J K-1 mol-1 ).

Abstract
The synthesis and structural characterization, both in solution by means of 1H and 31P NMR and UV-vis spectroscopies and in the solid state by X-ray diffraction on single crystal, of a series of gallium(III) and indium(III) meso-mono(diethoxyphosphoryl)porphyrins bearing different peripheral substituents as well as the corresponding monoesters and phosphonic acids are reported. This work describes the first example of the X-ray structure of a self-assembled dimer formed via strong binding between the oxygen atom of the phosphonate substituent and the gallium(III) cations of adjacent porphyrin molecules [Ga-O = 1.9708(13) Å].

Abstract
Neutral, flexible ditopic phosphine (P-P) or phosphine oxide (O=P-P=O) donors, rigid anionic bis-chelating oxygen donors, and Re2(CO)10 were used to assemble ten phosphine oxide (P=O)-donor-based neutral monocyclic M2LL'-, bicyclic M4L2L″-, and bicyclic M4LL'2-type supramolecular coordination complexes (SCCs). A soft ditopic phosphine donor was transformed into a hard ditopic phosphine oxide donor, during the formation of the cyclic complexes 1-3, 5-6, and 9-10. Complexes 4, 7, and 8 were obtained using a hard P=O donor ligand. These SCCs were characterized using elemental analysis, FTIR, NMR, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The absorption properties of 1-8 were studied using absorption UV-vis spectroscopic methods, and the results were analyzed using theoretical calculations. The results revealed that the neutral P=O donor significantly influenced the photophysical properties by enhancing the absorption coefficient in the visible region.

Abstract
Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) based on porphyrin or metalloporphyrin components are of particular interest due to their potential applications in molecular sorption, light-harvesting, and heterogeneous catalysis. This perspective is focused on recent advances in the syntheses and functional properties of metal-metalloporphyrin frameworks, which are classified according to coordination moieties on the porphyrin ligands.

Abstract
This work employed [5,10,15,20-tetrakis(pentafluorophenyl)porphyrin] ([H2(TPPF20)], H2P1) as the platform to prepare a tetrasubstituted galactodendritic conjugate porphyrin (H2P3). After metalation with excess copper(II) acetate, H2P3 afforded a new solid porphyrin material, Cu4CuP3S. This work also assessed the ability of the copper(II) complex (CuP3) of H2P3 to coordinate with zinc(II) acetate, to yield the new material Zn4CuP3S. UV-visible, Fourier transform infrared, and electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopies aided full characterization of the synthesized solids. (Z)-Cyclooctene epoxidation under heterogeneous conditions helped to evaluate the catalytic activity of Cu4CuP3S and Zn4CuP3S. The efficiency of Cu4CuP3S in the oxidation of another organic substrate, catechol, was also investigated. According to the results obtained in the heterogeneous process, Cu4CuP3S mimicked the activity of cytochrome P-450 and catecholase. In addition, Cu4CuP3S was reusable after recovery and reactivation. The data obtained herein were compared with the results achieved for the copper complex (CuP1) of [H2(TPPF20)] and for CuP3 under homogeneous conditions.

Abstract
The electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical properties of two β-phosphorylated Zn porphyrins, [2-diethoxyphosphoryl-5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphyrinato]zinc (1) and [2-diisopropoxyphosphoryl-5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphyrinato]zinc (2), are reported in CH 2 Cl 2 and PhCN containing tetrabutylammonium perchlorate (TBAP) or tetrabutylammonium hexafluorophosphate (TBAPF6) as supporting electrolyte. Under certain solution conditions, three one-electron reductions are observed, with the last process being attributed to the product of a chemical reaction following formation of the porphyrin dianion. Two or three oxidations are observed for the same compounds, again depending upon the solution conditions. In some cases, two well-defined and well-separated one electron oxidations are observed but in others the first one-electron abstraction to give the porphyrin radical cation is split into two redox processes, separated from each other by 110–140 mV. This splitting of the first oxidation into two processes is attributed to linking of the two porphyrins which results when a P = O unit of the phosphoryl substituent on one porphyrin binds to the Zn ( II ) center of a second porphyrin, resulting in dimer formation. The interaction between the two macrocycles is discussed in terms of the difference in potentials between the two split redox processes (ΔE1/2) and the overall data is compared with that for other porphyrin dimers and bis-macrocycles reported in the literature.
