Synthesis and Study of Three Novel Macrocyclic Selena[n]ferrocenophanes Containing a Naphthalene Unit

Facile, regioselective oxidative selenocyanation of N-aryl enaminones under transition-metal-free conditions

The present selenocyanation is applied for the synthesis of selenocyanated chromones, indoles and anilines in good to excellent yields.

Formation of alkyne-bridged ferrocenophanes using ring-closing alkyne metathesis on 1,1'-diacetylenic ferrocenes

Novel alkyne-bridged ferrocenophanes [fc{CO2(CH2) n C≡}2] (2a: n = 2; 2b: n = 3) were synthesized from the corresponding terminal diacetylenic ferrocenes [fc{CO2(CH2) n C≡CH}2] (1a: n = 2; 1b: n = 3) through ring-closing alkyne metathesis (RCAM) utilizing the highly effective molybdenum catalyst [MesC≡Mo{OC(CF3)2CH3}3] (MoF6; Mes = 2,4,6-trimethylphenyl). The metathesis reaction occurs in short time with high yields whilst giving full conversion of the terminal alkynes. Furthermore, the solvent-dependant reactivity of 2a towards Ag(SbF6) is investigated, leading to oxidation and formation of the ferrocenium hexafluoroantimonate 4 in dichloromethane, whereas the silver(I) coordination polymer 5 was isolated from THF solution.

All-polymer particulate slurry batteries

Redox flow batteries are promising for large-scale energy storage, but some long-standing problems such as safety issues, system cost and cycling stability must be resolved. Here we demonstrate a type of redox flow battery that is based on all-polymer particulate slurry electrolytes. Micro-sized and uniformly dispersed all-polymer particulate suspensions are utilized as redox-active materials in redox flow batteries, breaking through the solubility limit and facilitating the application of insoluble redox-active materials. Expensive ion-exchange membranes are replaced by commercial dialysis membranes, which can simultaneously realize the rapid shuttling of H⁺ ions and cut off the migration of redox-active particulates across the separator via size exclusion. In result, the all-polymer particulate slurry redox flow batteries exhibit a highly reversible multi-electron redox process, rapid electrochemical kinetics and ultra-stable long-term cycling capability.

Polydentate chalcogen reagents for the facile preparation of Pd2 and Pd4 complexes

The silylated organochalcogen reagents 1,2-(Me3SiSCH2)2C6H4, and 1,2-(Me3SiSeCH2)2C6H4, were prepared from the corresponding organobromides and lithium trimethylsilanechalcogenolate Li[ESiMe3] (E = S, Se). They have been characterized by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy ((1)H, (13)C, (77)Se) and electrospray ionization mass spectrometry. and react under mild conditions with (1,3-bis(diphenylphosphino)propane)palladium(ii) chloride, [PdCl2(dppp)], to provide the dinuclear organochalcogenolate-bridged complexes [(dppp)2Pd2-μ-κ(2)S-{1,2-(SCH2)2C6H4}]X2, []X2 and [(dppp)2Pd2-μ-κ(2)Se-{1,2-(SeCH2)2C6H4}]X2, []X2 (X = Cl, Br) in good yield, respectively. Furthermore, the tetranuclear palladium complex [(dppp)4Pd4-μ-κ(4)S-{1,2,4,5-(SCH2)4C6H2}]X4, []X4 (X = Cl, Br) can be synthesized from the reaction of the tetrathiotetrasilane 1,2,4,5-(Me3SiSCH2)4C6H2, and [PdCl2(dppp)]. The structures of []X2, []X2 and []X4 were determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction methods. A variety of NMR experiments including two-dimensional homonuclear and heteronuclear correlated spectra were used to probe the solution behaviour of the dinuclear complexes in more detail. These complexes were further characterized by electrospray ionization (ESI) mass spectrometry, and for []X2 and []X2, UV-Vis absorption spectroscopy.
