Abstract
A series of digold complexes possessing two thianthrenyl ligands, Au2(Thi)2(Ph2P(CH2) n PPh2) (Thi: 1-thianthrenyl; 1: n = 1, 2: n = 2, 3: n = 3, 4: n = 4), were prepared and characterized by crystallographic and spectroscopic measurements. X-ray crystallography of complexes 1 and 3 revealed U-shaped structures with short Au-Au distances [3.2171(3) Å and 3.0735(2) Å]. Complex 2 and three of the four structure-determined molecules of complex 4 showed structures without Au-Au contacts. UV-vis spectroscopic measurements of 1-4 and TD-DFT calculations of the two conformers of 1 revealed that complexes 1 and 3 in the solution phase contained conformers with Au(I)-Au(I) interactions in a much higher proportion than complexes 2 and 4. As a result, complexes with diphosphine ligands containing an odd number of methylene groups preferred structures with Au-Au interactions in the solid state and in solution. Oxidation of 1 with 2 equiv of PhICl2 yielded a mixture of monomeric and dimeric thianthrenes and its dimer via ligand elimination and C-C coupling, respectively.

Abstract
Treatment of [Au2Pd(dppm)(d-pen)2] ([1]) with Cu(NO3)2 gave a 1D (AuI2PdIICuII2)n coordination polymer, [Cu2(1)2(H2O)4](NO3)4 ([2](NO3)4), which was reversibly converted to its dehydrated species, [Cu2(1)2(H2O)2](NO3)4 ([3](NO3)4), with retention of crystallinity. The magnetic feature of [2](NO3)4 differs dramatically from that of [3](NO3)4, showing an unusual loop in the course of the magnetic susceptibility measurements due to the reversible opening and closing motions of dicopper(ii) paddle wheels in the solid state.

Abstract
A unique example of a ring-to-cage structural conversion in a multinuclear gold(I) coordination system with d-penicillamine (d-H2 pen) is reported. The reaction of [Au2 Cl2 (dppe)] (dppe=1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane) with d-H2 pen in a 1:1 ratio gave [Au4 (dppe)2 (d-pen)2 ] ([1]), in which two [Au2 (dppe)]2+ units are linked by two d-pen S atoms in a cyclic form so as to have two bidentate-N,O coordination arms. The subsequent reaction of [1] with Cu(OTf)2 afforded [Au4 Cu(dppe)2 (d-pen)2 ]2+ ([2]2+ ), in which a CuII ion is chelated by the two coordination arms in [1] to form an AuI4 CuII bicyclic metallocage. A similar reaction using Cu(NO3 )2 was accompanied by the ring expansion of [1] to [Au8 (dppe)4 (d-pen)4 ], leading to the production of [Au8 Cu2 (dppe)4 (d-pen)4 ]4+ ([3]4+ ). In [3]4+ , two CuII ions are each chelated by the two coordination arms to form an AuI8 CuII2 tricyclic metallocage, accommodating a nitrate ion. The use of Ni(NO3 )2 or Ni(OAc)2 instead of Cu(NO3 )2 commonly gave a tricyclic metallocage of [Au8 Ni2 (dppe)4 (d-pen)4 ]4+ ([4]4+ ), but a water molecule was accommodated inside the AuI8 NiII2 metallocage.

Abstract
Photoluminescent compounds showing emission color changes in response to external stimuli have received considerable attention because of their wide range of applications. Here, we report the unique photoluminescence behavior of a digold(I) coordination system with trigonal-planar Au(I) centers, [Au2(dppm)3](2+) (dppm = bis(diphenylphosphino)methane). This system shows an extremely intense phosphorescence, with a quantum yield of >95% in the solid state. Both the emission color and thermal stability vary due to changing counter ions (Cl(-) vs. OTf(-)). Of particular note is the thermal crystalline-amorphous-crystalline transformation for the chloride salt, which is accompanied by drastic emission color changes. Single-crystal and powder X-ray diffractions demonstrate that the two-step transformation is induced by the loss of water molecules of crystallization with the subsequent removal of a dppm ligand to form [Au2(dppm)2](2+), which is mechanically reverted back to [Au2(dppm)3](2+).
