Abstract
Radical lanthanide complexes are appealing platforms to investigate the possibility to engineer relevant magnetic couplings between the two magnetic centers by exploiting the strongly donating magnetic orbitals of the radical. In this paper, we report a spectroscopic and magnetic study on [LnRad(NO3)3], where Ln = Eu3+ or Lu3+ and Rad is the tridentate tripodal nitroxyl radical 4,4-dimethyl-2,2-bis(pyridin-2-yl)-1,3-oxazolidine-3-oxyl. A thorough magnetic investigation by Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) spectroscopy and magnetometry, fully supported by ab initio calculations, allowed us to unravel an unprecedentedly large antiferromagnetic coupling between the Eu3+ and the radical (J 12 = +19.5 cm-1, +J 12 S 1 S 2 convention). Remarkably, both europium and lutetium complexes showed slow magnetization dynamics below 20 K. The field and temperature dependent relaxation dynamics, dominated by Raman and direct processes were modelled simultaneously, allowing us to assess that the Raman process is field dependent.

Abstract
Two ruthenium nitrosyl complexes of Na[RuNOCl4L] with nitronyl nitroxide radicals coordinated to ruthenium with N-donor pyridine rings were prepared and described. The crystal structure of both complexes is 1D or 2D polymeric, due to the additional coordination of sodium cation by bridging the chloride ligands or oxygen atoms of nitroxides. Partially, the oligomeric forms remain in the solutions of the complexes in acetonitrile. The magnetic measurements in the solid state demonstrate the presence of antiferromagnetic interactions through the exchange channels, with the distance between paramagnetic centers equal to 3.1-3.9 Å. The electrochemical behavior of the prepared complexes was investigated in acetonitrile solutions.

Abstract
Herein, hexaazamacrocyclic ligand LN6 was employed to construct a series of photochromic rare-earth complexes, [Ln(LN6)(NO3)2](BPh4) [1-Ln, Ln = Dy, Tb, Eu, Gd, Y; LN6 = (3E,5E,10E,12E)-3,6,10,13-tetraaza-1,8(2,6)-dipyridinacyclotetradecaphane-3,5,10,12-tetraene]. The behavior of photogenerated radicals of hexaazamacrocyclic ligands was revealed for the first time. Upon 365 nm light irradiation, complexes 1-Ln exhibit photochromic behavior induced by photogenerated radicals according to EPR and UV-vis analyses. Static and dynamic magnetic studies of 1-Dy and irradiated product 1-Dy* indicate weak ferromagnetic interactions among DyIII ions and photogenerated LN6 radicals, as well as slow magnetization relaxation behavior under a 2 kOe applied field. Further fitting analyses show that the magnetization relaxation in 1-Dy* is markedly different from 1-Dy. Time-dependent fluorescence measurements reveal the characteristic luminescence quenching dynamics of lanthanide in the photochromic process. Especially for irradiated product 1-Eu*, the luminescence is almost completely quenched within 5 min with a quenching efficiency of 98.4%. The results reported here provide a prospect for the design of radical-induced photochromic lanthanide single-molecule magnets and will promote the further development of multiresponsive photomagnetic materials.

Abstract
Upon the interaction of the hydrated lanthanide(III) salts found in acetonitrile solution with a tripodal paramagnetic compound, 4,4-dimethyl-2,2-bis(pyridin-2-yl)-1,3-oxazolidine-3-oxyl (Rad), functionalized by two pyridyl groups, three neutral, structurally characterized complexes with diamagnetic polydentate ligands—[Dy(RadH)(hbpm)Cl2], [Yb2(ipapm)2(NO3)4], and [Ce2(ipapm)2(NO3)4(EtOAc)2]—were obtained. These coordination compounds are minor uncolored crystalline products, which were formed in a reaction mixture due to the Rad transformation in a lanthanide coordination sphere, wherein the processes of its simultaneous disproportionation, hydrolysis, and condensation proceed differently than in the absence of Ln ions. The latter fact was confirmed by the formation of the structurally characterized product of the oxazolidine nitroxide transformation during its crystallization in toluene solution. Such a conversion in the presence of 4f elements ions is unique since no similar phenomenon was observed during the synthesis of the 3d-metal complexes with Rad.

Abstract
Two diradical complexes of the formula [LnRad2(CF3SO3)3] c (Ln(III) = Dy, Eu, Rad = 4,4-dimethyl-2,2-bis(pyridin-2-yl)-1,3-oxazolidine-3-oxyl) were obtained in air conditions. These are the first examples of diradical compounds of lanthanides and oxazolidine nitroxide. The complexes were characterized crystallographically and magnetically. Single crystal XRD analysis revealed that their coordination sphere is composed of three monodentate triflates and two tripodal Rad, which coordinate the central atom in a tridentate manner via two N atoms of the pyridine groups and the O atom of a nitroxide group. The LnO5N4 polyhedron represents a spherical capped square antiprism with point symmetry close to C4v. The data of static magnetic measurements are compatible with the presence of two paramagnetic ligands in the coordination sphere of the metal.

Abstract
To increase the supramolecular cooperativity in Fe(ii) spin crossover materials based on N1-substituted tetrazoles, a series of ω-(1H-tetrazol-1-yl) carboxylic acids with chain-lengths of C2-C4 were synthesized. Structural characterization confirmed the formation of a strong hydrogen-bond network, responsible for enhanced cooperativity in the materials and thus largely complete spin-state transitions for the ligands with chain lenghts of C2 and C4. To complement the structural and magnetic investigation, electronic spectroscopy was used to investigate the spin-state transition. An initial attempt to utilize the bifunctional coordination ability of the ω-(1H-tetrazol-1-yl) carboxylic acids for preparation of mixed-metallic 3d-4f coordination polymers resulted in a novel one-dimensional gadolinium-oxo chain system with the ω-(1H-tetrazol-1-yl) carboxylic acid acting as μ2-η2:η1 chelating-bridging ligand.

Abstract
Structural, magnetic and spectroscopic data of four complex salts, [Mn(napsal2323)]NTf2, 1,[Mn(napsal2323)]ClO4, 2, [Mn(napsal2323)]BF4, 3 and [Mn(napsal2323)]NO3, 4, of the [Mn(napsal2323)]+ complex cation indicate that the Mn3+ ion is stabilized in the rare S = 1 spin triplet form in this ligand sphere. Zero-field splitting values of D = +19.6 cm-1 and |E| = 2.02 cm-1 for complex 1 were obtained by High Field Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (HFEPR) measurements conducted over a range of frequencies. Structural and magnetic data also indicate that co-crystallization of complexes 2 and 3 with 0.5 equivalents of ethanol yields the high spin S = 2 forms of the perchlorate and tetrafluoroborate solvates [Mn(napsal2323)]ClO4·0.5(C2H5OH), 2·0.5EtOH and [Mn(napsal2323)]BF4·0.5(C2H5OH), 3·0.5EtOH.

Abstract
The title compound (Me4N)[Fe{(2-py)3C- n-C18H37}(NCS)3] having a C18 chain underwent spin-crossover (SCO). There are two crystallographically independent molecules in a triclinic cell at 100 K but only one in a monoclinic cell at 300 K. The complex showed a gradual one-step SCO in the same temperature region as that of the structural transition. The SCO is supported with the 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy. The molecules are differentiated on cooling, but the SCO was synchronized.

Abstract
Heterometallic metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) allow the precise placement of various metals at atomic precision within a porous framework. This new level of control by MOFs promises fascinating advances in basic science and application. However, the rational design and synthesis of heterometallic MOFs remains a challenge due to the complexity of the heterometallic systems. Herein, we show that bimetallic MOFs with MX2 (INA)4 moieties (INA=isonicotinate; M=Co2+ or Fe2+ ; X=OH- , Cl- , Br- , I- , NCS- , or NCSe- ) can be generated by the sequential modification of a Zr-based MOF. This multi-step modification not only replaced the linear organic linker with a square planar MX2 (INA)4 unit, but also altered the symmetry, unit cell, and topology of the parent structure. Single-crystal to single-crystal transformation is realized so that snapshots for transition process were captured by successive single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Furthermore, the installation of Co(NCS)2 (INA)4 endows field-induced slow magnetic relaxation property to the diamagnetic Zr-MOF.

Abstract
The reaction of [FeII (L. )2 ](BF4 )2 with Li2 TCNQF4 results in the formation of [FeIII (L- )2 ][TCNQF4 . - ] (1) where L. is the radical ligand, 4,4-dimethyl-2,2-di(2-pyridyl)oxazolidine-N-oxide and TCNQF4 is 2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane. This has been characterised by X-ray diffraction, Raman and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility, Mössbauer spectroscopy and electrochemistry. X-ray diffraction studies, magnetic susceptibility measurements and Raman and FTIR spectroscopy suggest the presence of low-spin FeIII ions, the anionic form (L- ) of the ligand and the anionic radical form of TCNQF4 ; viz. TCNQF4 . - . Li2 TCNQF4 reduces the [FeII (L. )2 ]2+ dication, which undergoes a reductively induced oxidation to form the [FeIII (L- )2 ]+ monocation resulting in the formation of [FeIII (L- )2 ][TCNQF4 . - ] (1), the electrochemistry of which revealed four well-separated, diffusion-controlled, one-electron, reversible processes. Mössbauer spectroscopy and electrochemical measurements suggest the presence of a minor second species, likely to be [FeII (L. )2 ][TCNQF4 2- ].

Abstract
The radical bridged compound [(Ni(TPMA))2-μ-bmtz•-](BF4)3·3CH3CN (bmtz = 3,6-bis(2'-pyrimidyl)-1,2,4,5-tetrazine, TPMA = tris(2-pyridylmethyl)amine) exhibits strong ferromagnetic exchange between the S = 1 NiII centers and the bridging S = 1/2 bmtz radical with J = 96 ± 5 cm-1 (-2JNi-radSNiSrad). DFT calculations support the existence of strong ferromagnetic exchange.

Abstract
The synthesis of two new radical-bridged compounds [Co3(bptz)3(dbm)3]·2toluene (1) and [Co4(bptz)4(dbm)4]·4MeCN (2) (bptz = 3,6-bis(pyridyl)-1,2,4,5-tetrazine; dbm = 1,3-diphenyl-1,3-propanedionate) is reported. The presence of the ligand-centered radical has been confirmed by X-ray crystallography and SQUID magnetometry. These complexes are the first metallacycles bearing nitrogen heterocyclic radicals as bridges. Magnetic studies reveal strong antiferromagnetic metal···radical coupling with coupling constants of J = -67.5 and -66.8 cm-1 for 1 and 2, respectively. DFT calculations further support the strong antiferromagnetic coupling between CoII ions and bptz radicals and confirm S = 3 and S = 4 spin ground states for 1 and 2, respectively.

Abstract
Eight coordination compounds of formulae [FeII(L˙)2][ReIVCl6] (1a), [FeII(L˙)2][ReIVBr6] (1b), [CoII(L˙)2][ReIVCl6]·CH3CN (2a), [CoII(L˙)2][ReIVBr6] (2b), [NiII(L˙)(CH3CN)3][ReIVCl6]·CH3CN (3a), [NiII(L˙)(CH3CN)3][ReIVBr6]·3CH3CN (3b), [CuII(L˙)2][ReIVCl6] (4a) and [CuII(L˙)2][ReIVBr6] (4b), where L˙ is the aminoxyl radical chelating ligand, 4,4'-dimethyl-2,2'-di(2-pyridyl)oxazolidine-N-oxide, have been synthesised. Structural and magnetic studies reveal metal-radical intramolecular antiferromagnetic interactions in the [MII(L˙)2]2+ cations in the iron, cobalt and copper based compounds (1a, 1b, 2a, 2b, 4a and 4b) with the central metal ion low-spin in the case of iron (1a and 1b) and a gradual, cobalt based, spin-crossover transition present in 2a and 2b. The nickel based compounds, 3a and 3b, were analysed in the dried form (3a(dried) and 3b(dried)) and directly in acetonitrile (3a(solvated) and 3b(solvated)). Microanalysis and IR spectroscopy on 3a(dried) and 3b(dried) suggest that the dried samples are best formulated as [NiII(L˙)(H2O)3][ReIVX6], where X = Cl (3a(dried)) and Br (3b(dried)). All forms of 3a and 3b exhibit cationic metal-radical ferromagnetic interactions resulting in S = 3/2 ground states. In addition, 3a(dried) exhibits spin-canting behaviour with an ordering temperature of 2.7 K, an open hysteresis loop with a coercive field Hc = 580 Oe, and a remanent magnetisation Mr = 0.21μB, resulting in a canting angle of ∼1.8°. In contrast, 3b(dried) shows no spin-canting behaviour; a maximum in χMvs. T at T = 3 K suggesting long-range antiferromagnetic ordering. 3a(solvated) and 3b(solvated) show no indication of long-range magnetic ordering, unlike 4a and 4b where anomalies are evident in the low-temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements.
