Abstract
A 2D framework, i.e., zinc organophosphate [Zn(tmbiph)(solv)]2 (tmbiphH4 = tetramethyl-[1,1'-biphenyl]-4,4'-diyl bis(dihydrogen phosphate); solv = 2H2O) with an eight-membered ring core has been developed. The hierarchical and rational design of the zinc organophosphate has been achieved by carefully designing an organic bisphosphate ligand with two phosphate monoester groups connected through extended aromatic rings with methyl groups at ortho positions. The development of the 2D network does not require any ancillary ligand due to participating two phosphate groups in the coordination. The molecular structure of the zinc phosphate material was determined using single-crystal X-ray diffraction technique. The corresponding Co and Cu organophosphate materials have also been obtained using the same synthetic method; however, these compounds could not be confirmed structurally due to nondiffractive crystal quality. The structure of zinc organophosphate obtained through single-crystal X-ray diffraction has also been supported by theoretical calculations using density function theory. Furthermore, the zinc organophosphate material has been employed as an corrosion inhibitor for mild steel. The effect of the zinc phosphate framework on mild steel in 1 M HCl was investigated using polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. This study suggests that such phosphate inhibitors can be employed in the form of a thin protective layer on the electrode surface.

Abstract
Double-four ring (D4R)-type cage germanoxanes, having a fluoride anion in the cage, contain organic ammonium cations as counter cations outside the cage, and they are attractive as unique nano-building blocks of anionic porous materials. Although the variety of counter cations directly included in the cage germanoxane synthesis is limited, this study demonstrates that other tetraalkylammonium cations can be introduced by cation exchange in both discrete and cross-linked states. Tetraethylammonium (TEA) of a discrete cage germanoxane was replaced with tetrabutylammonium (TBA) in an organic solvent, which provides another starting material. TEA and TBA cations in cross-linked networks formed by hydrosilylation reactions of dimethylvinylsilylated cage germanoxanes with various oligosiloxanes as linkers were exchanged with tetramethylammonium (TMA) cations. The variation in the pore volume, which depends on the type of introduced counter cations and oligosiloxane linkers, is verified. In terms of bottom-up synthesis of nanoporous materials from cage-type germanoxanes, the selection of both the counter cation and cross-linker is important to vary the porosity.

Abstract
One of the most intriguing nitrogen based aromatic heterocycles is 1,2,4,5-tetrazine or s-tetrazine (TTZ) thanks to its electron acceptor character and fluorescence properties and the possibilities of functionalization in the 3 and 6 positions allowing access to various ligands. In this review we focus on the two main families of TTZ based ligands, i.e. ditopic symmetric and monotopic non-symmetric, together with their metal complexes, with a special emphasis on their solid state structures and physical properties. After a description of the most representative complexes containing unsubstituted TTZ as a ligand, symmetric TTZ ligands and complexes derived thereof are discussed in the order: 3,6-bis(2-pyridyl)-tetrazine, 3,6-bis(3-pyridyl)-tetrazine, 3,6-bis(4-pyridyl)-tetrazine, 3,6-bis(2-pyrimidyl)-tetrazine, 3,6-bis(2-pyrazinyl)-tetrazine, 3,6-bis(monopicolylamine)-tetrazine, 3,6-bis(vanillin-hydrazinyl)-tetrazine and TTZ containing carboxylic acids. Remarkable results have been obtained in recent years for metal-organic frameworks and magnetic compounds in which magnetic coupling is enhanced when the tetrazine bridge is reduced to radical anions. Non-symmetric ligands, such as dipicolylamine-TTZ and monopicolylamine-TTZ, are comparatively more recent than the symmetric ones. They allow in principle the preparation of mononuclear complexes in a controlled manner, although binuclear complexes have been isolated as well. Moreover, in the monopicolylamine-TTZ-Cl ligand, deprotonation of the amine, thanks to the electron acceptor character of TTZ, afforded a negatively charged ligand equivalent of a guanidinate.

Abstract
Highly symmetric enneanuclear copper(ii) phosphates [Cu9(Pz)6(μ-OH)3(μ3-OH)(ArOPO3)4(DMF)3] (PzH = pyrazole, Ar = 2,6-(CHPh2)2-4-R-C6H2; R = Me, 2MeAr; Et, 2EtAr; iPr, 2iPrAr; and Ar = 2,6-iPr2C6H3, 2Dip) comprising nine copper(ii) centers and pyrazole, hydroxide and DMF as ancillary ligands were synthesized by a reaction involving the arylphosphate monoester, 1, copper(i)chloride, pyrazole, and triethylamine in a 4 : 9 : 6 : 14 ratio. All four complexes were characterized by single crystal structural analysis. The complexes contain two distinct structural motifs within the multinuclear copper scaffold: a hexanuclear unit and a trinuclear unit. In the latter, the three Cu(ii) centres are bridged by a μ3-OH. Each pair of Cu(ii) centers in the trinuclear unit are bridged by a pyrazole ligand. The hexanuclear unit is made up of three dinuclear Cu(ii) motifs where the two Cu(ii) centres are bridged by an -OH and a pyrazole ligand. The three dinuclear units are connected to each other by phosphate ligands. The latter also aid the fusion of the trinuclear and the hexanuclear motifs. Magnetic studies reveal a strong antiferromagnetic exchange between the Cu(ii) centres of the dinuclear units in the hexanuclear part and a strong spin frustration in the trinuclear part leading to a degenerate ground state.

Abstract
Modulation of a functional group on the distal part of a phosphate ester has been prudently exploited to selectively switch between the formation of D4R SBUs and 3-D framework structures. While amino substitution at the para-position of an aryl phosphate results in the isolation of tetra-amino functionalized discrete D4R zinc phosphate or its 4-connected 3-D framework, the introduction of an acetylamino substituent leads to a single-step assembly of a rare eight-connected 3-D framework solid.

Abstract
Eight corners of a double-four ring cage-type germanoxane, containing a fluoride ion, were successfully silylated by the combination of chlorosilanes and silazanes. Three different silyl groups, trimethylsilyl, dimethylsilyl, and dimethylvinylsilyl, were attached on the corners of germanoxane cage. The solubility and reactivity of the cage modified with dimethylvinylsilyl groups were significantly increased, allowing for further reaction. Hydrosilylation reaction between dimethylvinylsilylated cage geramanoxanes and dimethylsilylated cage siloxanes afforded porous solids. Functionalization of the corners of germanoxanes with silyl groups should provide valuable building blocks in various functional materials.

Abstract
The reaction of [Cp*TiCl3] (Cp* = C5Me5) with monoalkyl phosphates (RO)PO3H2 (R = Me, Et, and iPr) in tetrahydrofuran (THF) at 25 °C leads to the formation of binuclear complexes [Cp*2Ti2(μ-O2P(OH)OR)2(μ-O2P(O)OR)2] [R = Me (1), Et (2), and iPr (3)]. On the other hand, the reaction of ( tBuO)2PO2K with [Cp*TiCl3] in acetonitrile or THF results in isolation of either the dinuclear [Cp*2Ti2(μ-O2P(OH)O tBu)2(μ-O2P(O)O tBu)2] (4) or the trinuclear titanophosphate [Cp*3Ti3(μ-O3PO tBu)2(μ-O)2(μ-O2P(O tBu)2)] (5), respectively. The formation of compounds 4 and 5 is facilitated by partial hydrolysis of the tert-butoxy groups of ( tBuO)2PO2K. New titanophosphates 1-5 have been characterized by spectroscopic and analytical methods, and the molecular structures have further been confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. Thermal decomposition studies of 1-5 reveal the initial loss of thermally labile alkyl substituents of the organophosphate ligands, followed by the loss of C5Me5 groups to form an organic-free amorphous titanophosphate in the temperature range 300-500 °C. This material transforms to highly crystalline titanium pyrophosphate TiP2O7 at 800 °C. Compounds 1-5 and the TiP2O7 materials obtained at 300, 500, and 800 °C through the thermal decomposition of 3 have been employed as efficient homogeneous catalysts for the alkene epoxidation reaction. Using hydrogen peroxide as the oxidant in an acetonitrile medium, these catalysts exhibit >90% alkene conversion with >90% epoxide selectivity in 4 h at temperatures below 100 °C.

Abstract
We describe the synthesis and the structural characterization of new H2L(CF3CO2)2 (1) and H2L(Ph2PO4)2 (2) compounds containing the diprotonated form (H2L2+) of the tetrazine-based molecule 3,6-di(pyridin-4-yl)-1,2,4,5-tetrazine. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis of single crystals of these compounds showed that H2L2+ displays similar binding properties toward both anions when salt bridge interactions are taken into account. Nevertheless, the different shapes, sizes and functionalities of trifluoroacetate and diphenyl phosphate anions define quite different organization patterns leading to the peculiar crystal lattices of 1 and 2. These three-dimensional (3D) architectures are self-assembled by a variety of non-covalent forces, among which prominent roles are played by fluorine–π (in 1) and anion–π (in 2) interactions.

Abstract
NaCa3PSiO8 was synthesized in a microwave-assisted solid-state reaction. The crystal structure of the synthesized compound was solved using a least-squares method, followed by simulated annealing. The compound was crystallized in the orthorhombic space group Pna21, belonging to Laue class mmm. The structure consisted of two layers of cation planes, each of which contained three cation channels. The cation channels in each of the layers ran antiparallel to that of the adjacent layer. All the major cations together constituted four distinct crystallographic sites. The Rietveld refinement of the powder X-ray diffraction data, followed by the maximum-entropy method analysis, confirmed the obtained structure solutions. The electronic band structure of the compound was analyzed through density function theory calculations. Luminescence properties of the compound, upon activating with Eu2+ ions, were analyzed through photoluminescence measurements and decay profile analysis. The compound was found to exhibit green luminescence centered at ∼502 nm, with a typical broadband emission due to the transition from the crystal-field split 4f65d to 4f7 levels.

Abstract
Three, PO4 3-/HPO4 2- and AsO4 3--incorporated, new tetranuclear complexes of copper(II) and zinc(II) ions have been synthesized and fully characterized. In methanol-water, reactions of H3cpdp (H3cpdp = N,N'-Bis[2-carboxybenzomethyl]-N,N'-Bis[2-pyridylmethyl]-1,3-diaminopropan-2-ol) with copper(II) chloride in the presence of either NaOH/Na2HPO4·2H2O or KOH/Na2HAsO4·7H2O lead to the isolation of the tetranuclear complexes Na3[Cu4(cpdp)2(μ4-PO4)](OH)2·14H2O (1) and K2[Cu4(cpdp)2(μ4-AsO4)](OH)·162/3H2O (2), respectively. Similarly, the reaction of H3cpdp with zinc(II) chloride in the presence of NaOH/Na2HPO4·2H2O yields a tetranuclear complex, Na(H3O)2[Zn4(cpdp)2(μ4-HPO4)]Cl3·121/2H2O (3). All complexes are characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and other analytical techniques, such as Fourier transform infrared and UV-vis spectroscopy, thermogravimetric and electrochemical studies. The solid-state molecular framework of each complex contains two monocationic [M2(cpdp)]+ (M = Cu, Zn) units, which are exclusively coordinated to either phosphate/hydrogen phosphate or arsenate groups in a unique mode. All three complexes exhibit a μ4:η1:η1:η1:η1 bridging mode of the PO4 3-/HPO4 2-/AsO4 3- groups, with each bridging among four metal ions. The thermal properties of all three complexes have been investigated by thermogravimetric analysis. Low-temperature magnetic studies of complexes 1 and 2 disclose moderate antiferromagnetic interactions mediated among the copper centers through alkoxide and phosphate/arsenate bridges. Electrochemical studies of complexes 1 and 2 in dimethylformamide using cyclic voltammetry reveal the presence of a fairly assessable one-electron metal-based irreversible reduction and one quasireversible oxidation couple.

Abstract
4,4'-Bipyridine-N-oxide (BIPYMO, 1), a less commonly employed coordination polymer linker, has been used as a ditopic spacer to bridge double-four-ring (D4R) zinc phosphate clusters to form novel framework coordination polymers. Zinc phosphate framework compounds [Zn4(X-dipp)4(BIPYMO)2]n·2MeOH [X = H (2), Cl (3), Br (4), I (5); dipp = 2,6-diisopropylphenyl phosphate] have been obtained by treating a methanol solution of zinc acetate with X-dippH2 and BIPYMO (in a 1:1:1 molar ratio) at ambient conditions. Framework phosphates 2-5 can also be obtained by treating the preformed D4R cubanes [Zn(X-dipp)(DMSO)]4 with required quantities of BIPYMO in methanol. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies reveal that these framework solids are two-dimensional (2D) networks as opposed to the diamondoid networks obtained when the parent unoxidized 4,4'-bipyridine is used as the linker (Inorg. Chem. 2014, 53, 8959). The two types of voids (viz., smaller intra-D4R and larger inter-D4R) present in these framework solids can be utilized for different types of encapsulation processes. For example, the in situ generated 2D framework 2 encapsulates fluoride ions accompanied by a change in the dimensionality of the framework to yield {[(nC4H9)4N][F@(Zn4(dipp)4(BIPYMO)2)]}n (6). The three-dimensional framework 6 represents the first structurally characterized example of a fluoride-ion-encapsulated polymeric coordination compound or a metal-organic framework. The possibility of utilizing inter-D4R voids as hosts for small organic molecules has been explored by treating in situ generated 2 with a series of organic molecules of appropriate size. Framework 2 has been found to be a selective host for benzil and not for other structurally similar molecules such as benzoquinone, benzidine, anthracene, naphthalene, α-pyridoin, etc. The benzil-occluded isolated framework [benzil@{Zn4(dipp)4(BIPYMO)2}]n (7) has been isolated as single crystals, and its crystal structure determination revealed the binding of benzil molecules to the framework through strong π-π interactions.

Abstract
Structural variations in zinc phosphate cluster chemistry have been achieved through a careful selection of phosphate ligand, ancillary ligand, and solvent medium. The use of 4-haloaryl phosphates (X-dippH2) as phosphate source in conjunction with 2-hydroxypyridine (hpy) ancillary ligand in acetonitrile solvent resulted in the isolation of the first examples of octameric zinc phosphates [Zn8(X-dipp)8(hpy)4(CH3CN)2(H2O)2]·4H2O (X = Cl 2, Br 3) and not the expected tetranuclear D4R cubane clusters. Use of 2,3-dihydroxypyridine (dhpy) as ancillary ligand, under otherwise similar reaction conditions with the same set of phosphate ligands and solvent, resulted in isolation of another type of octanuclear zinc phosphate clusters {[(Zn8(X-dipp)4(X-dippH)4(dhpyH)4(dhpyH2)2(H2O)2]·2solvent} (X = Cl, solvent = MeCN 4; Br, solvent = H2O 5), as the only isolated products. X-ray crystal diffraction studies reveal that 2 and 3 are octanuclear clusters that are essentially formed by edge fusion of two D4R zinc phosphates. Although 4 and 5 are also octanuclear clusters, they exhibit a completely different cluster architecture and have been presumably formed by the ability of 2,3-dihydroxypyridine to bridge zinc centers in addition to the X-dipp ligands. Dissolution of both types of octanuclear clusters in DMSO followed by crystallization yields D4R cubanes [Zn(X-dipp)(DMSO)]4 (X = Cl 6, Br 7), in which the ancillary ligands such as hpy, H2O, and CH3CN originally present on the zinc centers of 2-5 have been replaced by DMSO. DFT calculations carried out to understand the preference of Zn8 versus Zn4 clusters in different solvent media reveal that use of CH3CN as solvent favors the formation of fused cubanes of the type 2 and 3, whereas use of DMSO as the solvent medium promotes the formation of D4R structures of the type 6 and 7. The calculations also reveal that the vacant exocluster coordination sites on the zinc centers at the bridgehead positions prefer coordination by water to hpy or CH3CN. Interestingly, the initially inaccessible D4R cubanes [Zn(X-dipp)(hpy)]4·2MeCN (X = Cl 8, Br 9) could be isolated as the sole products from the corresponding DMSO-decorated cubanes 6 and 7 by combining them with hpy in CH3CN.

Abstract
Haloaryl phosphates (X-dippH2, X = Cl, Br, I) react with zinc acetate in the presence of collidine or 2-aminopyridine (2-apy) to yield zinc phosphate clusters [Zn(X-dipp)(collidine)]4 (X = Cl (1), Br (2), I (3)) and [Zn(X-dipp)(2-apy)]4·2MeOH (X = Cl (4), Br (5), I (6)), respectively. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies reveal that collidine and 2-apy capped zinc phosphates 1-6 exist as discrete tetrameric zinc phosphate molecules, exhibiting a cubane-shaped D4R core. In contrast, when the same reaction has been carried out in the presence of 4-cyanopyridine (4-CNpy), polymeric zinc phosphates {[Zn4(X-dipp)4(4-CNpy)2(MeOH)2]·2H2O}n (X = Cl (7), Br (8), I (9)) have been isolated. Compounds 7-9 are square-wave-shaped, one-dimensional polymers composed of fused S4R repeating units. The common structural motif found both in D4R cubanes 1-6 and polymers 7-9 is the S4R building block, which presumably undergoes further fusion because of the coordinative unsaturation at zinc and the simultaneous presence of free P═O. The closed shell cubanes 1-6 are obviously formed by a face-to-face dimerization involving two S4R units in which the two P═O groups are in cis-configuration. On the other hand, the one-dimensional (1-D) square-wave polymers 7-9 are formed from a face-to-face association of S4R building units in which the two P═O groups are in a trans-configuration. In order to stabilize these elusive S4R zinc phosphates, the reaction between Cl-dippH2 and zinc acetate was carried out in the presence of excess imidazole as an ancillary ligand (1:1:4), although only an imidazole decorated cubane cluster [Zn(Cl-dipp)(imz)]4.2MeOH (10) was isolated. The chelating N,N'-donor 1,10-phenanthroline ligand was used to eventually isolate cyclic S4R phosphate [Zn(μ2-Cl-dipp)(1,10-phen)(OH2)]2·MeOH·H2O (11). The change of Zn(2+) source to zinc nitrate and the phosphate source to 2,6-dimethylphenyl phosphate (dmppH2) led to the isolation of another polymeric phosphate [Zn(dmpp)(MeOH)]n (12), with a zigzag backbone, formed through an edge-to-edge to polymerization of S4R building units with P═O groups in trans-configuration. The isolation of four different structural types of zinc phosphates A-D in the present study can be rationalized in terms of fusion of S4R rings in a variety of ways to either produce discrete clusters or 1-D polymers.
