Abstract
This paper presents the synthesis and characterization of a series of novel monomeric aqua-ligated iron(III) complexes, [FeIII(L5R)(OH2)]2+ (R=OMe, H, Cl, NO2), supported by an amide-containing pentadentate N5 donor ligand, L5R [HL5R=2-(((1-methyl-1H-imidazol-2-yl)methyl)(pyridin-2-yl-methyl)amino)-N-(5-R-quinolin-8-yl)acetamide]. The complexes were characterized by various spectroscopic and analytical techniques, including electrochemistry and magnetic measurements. The Fe(III)-hydroxo complexes, [FeIII(L5R)(OH)]1+, were generated in situ by deprotonating the corresponding aqua complexes in a pH ~7 aqueous medium. In another way, adding one equivalent of a base to a methanolic solution of the Fe(III)-aqua complexes also produced the Fe(III)-hydroxo complexes. The study uses linoleic fatty acid as a substrate to explore the hydrogen atom abstraction (HAA) reactivity of both hydroxo and aqua complexes. The investigation highlights the substitution effect of the L5R ligand on reactivity, revealing a higher rate when an electron-withdrawing group is present. Hammett analyses and(or) determination of the asynchronicity factor (η) suggest an oxidative asynchronous concerted proton-electron transfer (CPET) pathway for the HAA reactions. Aqua complexes exhibited a higher asynchronicity in CPET, resulting in higher reaction rates than their hydroxo analogs. Overall, the work provides insights into the beneficial role of a higher imbalance in electron-transfer-proton-transfer (ET-PT) contributions in HAA reactivity.

Abstract
Three carboxamide-based ligands and their iron(III) complexes were prepared and structurally characterized. Analytical, thermal and mass spectra measurements showed a 1:1 stoichiometric (M:L) of the synthesized iron(III) complexes. The distorted octahedral geometry of the present iron(III) complexes was assigned based on the results of spectroscopy and magnetometry. Processing of X-ray diffraction data for powder samples by the software Expo 2014 confirmed the octahedral geometry of the three iron(III) complexes. Electrochemical properties of the present iron(III) complexes were studied by cyclic voltammetric measurements. The present iron(III) complexes exhibit SOD like activity with IC50 values of 16.45, 15.24 and 9.70 μM. The drive forces (-λ or ΔG°) controlling these biocatalytic reactions were determined and correlated with catalytic activity. The proposed catalytic mechanistic implications for the conversion of O2•- to H2O2 and H2O were discussed. The antimicrobial activity has been studied in vitro against G(+) and G(-) pathogenic bacteria. The in vitro anticancer activity of the carboxamide-based ligands and their iron(III) complexes against human Hepatocellular carcinoma (HepG-2) cell lines was examined. The obtained results demonstrated the potent anticancer activity of iron(III) complexes with increased safety on normal cells compared to cisplatin. Molecular docking calculations confirmed the experimental findings of the antibacterial and anticancer activities of both free ligands and their iron(III) chelates.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Sarma.

Abstract
AbstractThis work describes the application of a library of iron(III)-salen catalysts in the production of biodiesel from vegetable oils. The conversion of neutral soybean oil is complete within two hours at 160–180 °C with low catalyst loading (0.10 mol%). A comparative screening reveals that the catalysts containing acetate as a fifth ligand are the most performing, and these have been conveniently used to convert acidic and waste cooking oils (WCO). WCOs were used as received without further purification to produce biodiesel in high yield (85–90%) under optimized conditions (2 h at 180 °C, catalyst loading 0.1 mol%, oil to alcohol molar ratio 1:20). The iron content in the lipophilic and hydrophilic phases of the crude mixture was investigated and the residual concentration in biodiesel was found to be in the order of 10–14 ppm, comparable to that contained in biodiesels from other sources.

Abstract
Iron–porphyrins ([Formula: see text] hemes) are present throughout the biosphere and perform a wide range of functions, particularly those that involve complex multiple-electron redox processes. Some common heme enzymes involved in these processes include cytochrome P450, heme/copper oxidase or heme/non-heme diiron nitric oxide reductase. Consequently, the (hydr)oxo-bridged heme species have been studied for the important roles that they play in many life processes or for their application for catalysis and preparation of new functional materials. This review encompasses important synthetic, structural and reactivity aspects of the (hydr)oxo-bridged heme constructs that govern their function and application. The properties and reactivity of the bridging (hydr)oxo moieties are directly dictated by the coordination environment of the heme core, the nature and ligation of the second metal center attached to the (hydr)oxo group, the presence or absence of a linker, and the degree of flexibility around that linker within the scaffold. Here, we summarize the structural features of all known (hydr)oxo-bridged heme constructs and use those to categorize and thus, provide a more comprehensive picture of structure–function relationships.

Abstract
2,4,6-Tris(4-hydroxybenzimino)-1,3,5-triazine [1] 2 has been synthesized from the reaction of 1 equiv. melamine (2,4,6-triamino-1,3,5-triazine) and 3 equiv. 4-hydroxybenzaldehyde. Then, 2,4,6-tris(4-(4,6-dichloro-1,3,5-triazine-2-yloxy)benzimino)-1,3,5-triazine 3 has been synthesized from the reaction of 1 equiv. 2 and 3 equiv. cyanuric chloride. And then, two new triazine centered dendrimeric ligands 2,4,6-tris(4-(4,6-bis(4-carboxyphenyloxy)-1,3,5-triazine-2-yloxy)benzimino)-1,3,5-triazine 4 and 2,4,6-tris(4-(4,6-bis(3,5-dicarboxyphenyloxy)-1,3,5-triazine-2-yloxy)benzimino)-1,3,5-triazine 5 have been synthesized from the reaction of 1 equiv. 3 and 6 equiv 4-hydroxybenzoic acid or 5-hydroxyisophtalic acid. Finally, eight new multinuclear Fe(III) and Cr(III) complexes involving tetradenta Schiff bases N,N'-bis(salicylidene)ethylenediamine-(salenH(2)) or bis(salicylidene)-o-phenylene diamine-(salophH(2)) with 4 or 5 have been synthesized and characterized by means of elemental analysis, (1)H NMR, FT-IR spectroscopy, thermal analyses and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The complexes can also be characterized as low-spin distorted octahedral Fe(III) and Cr(III) bridged by carboxylic acids.
