Abstract
The dangler manganese center in the oxygen-evolving complex (OEC) of photosystem II plays an important role in the oxidation of water to dioxygen. Inspired by the structure of the OEC, we synthesized a series of site-differentiated tetra-manganese clusters [LMn3(PhPz)3OMn][OTf]x (2: x = 2; 3: x = 1) that features an apical manganese ion-distinct from the others-that is appended to a trinuclear manganese core through an μ4-oxygen atom bridge. This cluster design was targeted to facilitate studies of high-valent Mn-oxo formation, which is a proposed step in the mechanism for water oxidation by the OEC. Terminal Mn-oxo species-supported by a multinuclear motif-were targeted by treating 2 and 3 with iodosobenzene. Akin to our previously reported iron complexes, intramolecular arene hydroxylation was observed to yield the C-H bond oxygenated complexes [LMn3(PhPz)2(OArPz)OMn][OTf]x (5: x = 2; 6: x = 1). The fluorinated series [LMn3(F2ArPz)3OMn][OTf]x (8: x = 2; 9: x = 1) was also synthesized to mitigate the observed intramolecular hydroxylation. Treatment of 8 and 9 with iodosobenzene results in intramolecular arene C-F bond oxygenation as judged by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry. The observed aromatic C-H and C-F hydroxylation is suggestive of a putative high-valent terminal metal-oxo species, and it is one of the very few examples capable of oxygenating C-F bonds.

Abstract
The synthesis and characterisation of diorganotin(iv) monomeric derivatives of pyridine Schiff bases and pyridinic carboxylic acids are reported. All complexes were characterised by mass spectrometry, elemental analyses, IR spectra, and multinuclear NMR analyses. Among them, complexes 5a, 5d, 5e, 5g, and 6a were also confirmed by X-ray crystallography diffraction analyses, which led to establishing that the tin atom is seven-coordinated and has a distorted pentagonal–bipyramidal coordination environment in the solid state and also revealed that both ligands occupy the equatorial positions and the organic substituents the axial positions. The antioxidant activity of the synthetic derivatives towards 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH) as well as the thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) assay were determined, and were compared with standard antioxidants, showing a dose-dependent activity in both cases. A prominent response was obtained depending on the substituent. The anti-inflammatory activity was also evaluated on a 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA) model of induced acute inflammation. The results of the biological tests are discussed in terms of structural characteristics.

Abstract
Photosystem II supports four manganese centers through nine oxidation states from manganese(II) during assembly through to the most oxidized state before O2 formation and release. The protein-based carboxylate and imidazole ligands allow for significant changes of the coordination environment during the incorporation of hydroxido and oxido ligands upon oxidation of the metal centers. We report the synthesis and characterization of a series of tetramanganese complexes in four of the six oxidation states from MnII3MnIII to MnIII2 MnIV2 with the same ligand framework (L) by incorporating four oxido ligands. A 1,3,5-triarylbenzene framework appended with six pyridyl and three alkoxy groups was utilized along with three acetate anions to access tetramanganese complexes, Mn4O x , with x = 1, 2, 3, and 4. Alongside two previously reported complexes, four new clusters in various states were isolated and characterized by crystallography, and four were observed electrochemically, thus accessing the eight oxidation states from MnII4 to MnIIIMnIV3. This structurally related series of compounds was characterized by EXAFS, XANES, EPR, magnetism, and cyclic voltammetry. Similar to the ligands in the active site of the protein, the ancillary ligand (L) is preserved throughout the series and changes its binding mode between the low and high oxido-content clusters. Implications for the rational assembly and properties of high oxidation state metal-oxido clusters are presented.

Abstract
Two Mn(4) single-molecule-magnet (SMM)-based coordination polymers, {[Mn(4)O(salox)(3)(N(3))(3)(DMF)(2)(H(2)O)(dpp)]·0.5MeOH}(n) (1·0.5MeOH; H(2)salox = salicylaldoxime; dpp = 1,3-di-4-pyridylpropane; DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide) and {[Mn(4)O(Me-salox)(3)(N(3))(3)(dpp)(1.5)]·1.5Et(2)O}(n) (2·1.5Et(2)O; Me-H(2)salox = hydroxyphenylethanone oxime), are self-assembled from Mn(ClO(4))(2)·6H(2)O/H(2)salox and Mn(ClO(4))(2)·6H(2)O/Me-H(2)salox systems with dpp and NaN(3) in DMF/MeOH, respectively. Both compounds comprise a mixed-valence tetranuclear manganese core, [Mn(II)Mn(III)(3)O](9+), which serves as a building unit for subsequent assembly via oximate and azido ligands. The flexible dpp ligand links with a Mn(4) unit, leading to the formation of a one-dimensional helical structure in 1·0.5MeOH and a three-dimensional pcu network in 2·1.5Et(2)O. The magnetic data analysis shows that antiferromagnetic interactions within the Mn(4) units resulted in S = (3)/(2) and (7)/(2) ground states for 1·0.5MeOH and 2·1.5Et(2)O, respectively. Both compounds show SMM behavior, as evidenced by frequency-dependent out-of-phase signals in alternating-current magnetic susceptibility and magnetic hysteresis loop studies with an energy barrier of U(eff) = 37 K for 2·1.5Et(2)O.

Abstract
The syntheses, crystal structures, and magnetochemical characterization are reported of a novel family of four pentanuclear manganese complexes, namely, [Mn(III)(5)(mu(3)-O)(2)(L(1))(4)(O(2)CMe)(3)(CH(3)OH)].1.5CH(3)OH.2.5H(2)O (1), [Mn(III)(5)(mu(3)-O)(2)(L(1))(4)(O(2)CPh)(3)(CH(3)OH)].2CH(3)OH.2.25CH(3)CN.1.5H(2)O (), [Mn(II)Mn(III)(4)(HL(2))(2)(L(2))(2)(O(2)C Me)(4))].CH(3)OH.H(2)O (3) and [Mn(II)Mn(III)(4)(HL(2))(2)(L(2))(2)(O(2)CPh)(4))].1.5H(2)O (4), where H(2)L(1) is 3,5-dibromosalicylidene-2-ethanolamine and H(3)L(2) is 3-(2-hydroxy-3,5-dibromobenzylideneamino)propane-1,2-diol. All the complexes can be obtained from a reaction system containing the trinuclear species [Mn(3)O(O(2)CR)(6)(Py)(3)](0/+) (R = Me or Ph) and H(2)L(1) or H(3)L(2) with similar procedures. Both cores in complexes 1 and 2 feature two mu(3)-O(2-) atoms, four L(1)(2-) ligands together with three RCO(2)(-) groups (R = Me or Ph) bridging five Mn(III) atoms to form an incomplete cubane extended at one face by an incomplete adamantane unit, which is an unprecedented structural type in Mn chemistry. Complexes 3 and 4 both have a rare [Mn(II)Mn(III)(4)(mu(2)-O(alkoxide))(6)](8+) core, which can be regarded as two {Mn(II)Mn(III)(2)(mu(2)-O(alkoxide))(3)} scalene triangles, sharing the Mn(II) vertex. The dc magnetic susceptibility studies in the 2-300 K range for complexes 1-4 reveal the presence of overall antiferromagnetic intracluster interactions. A simple 3-J model was found to be adequate to describe the variable-temperature dc susceptibility data of complexes 1-4. The results have allowed us to compare the obtained magnetic exchange with magneto-structural correlations found previously for manganese-oxo clusters.

Abstract
Polynuclear coordination clusters have become of particular interest in recent times as a result of their relevance to bioinorganic chemistry and to the special area of molecule-based magnetic materials where cluster compounds behave as single-molecule magnets (SMMs). In this review we have focused on describing Mn coordination cluster complexes. Adopting our topological approach for the description of coordination clusters we present a means of classifying the structural motifs found in manganese clusters which range in nuclearity from 5 to 84, as well as some representative heterometallic Mn-M (M = K, Na, Ca, Sr, Ln) cluster complexes that have been reported. This sheds new light on the classification of the types of core structure accessible which, in turn, provides a useful means for developing the so-far missing magneto-structural correlation algorithm for these finite 0-D systems (212 references).
