Incorporation of Substitutionally Labile [VIII(CN)6]3− into Prussian Blue Type Magnetic Materials

Magnetostructural and EPR Studies of Anisotropic Vanadium trans-Dicyanide Molecules

A series of trans-dicyanide vanadium(III) compounds based on acetylacetonate, (PPN)[V^III(acac)₂(CN)₂]·(PPN)Cl·2MeCN (1), and salen ligands, (Et₄N)[V^III(salen)(CN)₂] (2a), (PPN)[V^III(MeOsalen)(CN)₂]·DMF·2MeCN (3), and (PPN)[V^III(salphen)(CN)₂]·DMF (4) [salen = N,N'-ethylenebis(salicyl-imine), MeOsalen = N,N'-ethylenebis(methoxysalicylimine), salphen = N,N'-phenylenebis(salicyl-imine), and PPN = bis(triphenylphosphine)iminium], were prepared and structurally characterized. High-field EPR studies reveal that the complexes exhibit moderate magnetic anisotropy with positive D values of +5.70, +3.80, +4.05, and +3.99 cm^-1 for 1-4, respectively.

Electrochemical and Photoelectrochemical Investigation of New Self-Assembled Films Based on Prussian Blue and a Terpyridyl RuII Complex

A new hybrid multilayer film containing Prussian blue (PB) and a bis-terpyridyl RuII complex of RuII(L)2(ClO4)2 (in which L = 4′-(4-(imidazol-1-yl)phenyl)-2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine), was fabricated though covalently and electrostatic layer-by-layer self-assembly techniques, and characterised by UV-vis absorption spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry, and photoelectrochemical techniques. The results demonstrated that the two film-forming components were successfully transferred into the hybrid film, which exhibited three quasi-reversible redox couples centred at 0.06, 0.76, and 1.0 V. The photoelectrochemical studies showed that an 11-layer film exhibited a large cathodic photocurrent density of 7.72 μA cm–2 while irradiated with 100 mW cm–2 polychromatic light (325 < λ < 730 nm) at an applied potential of –0.2 V versus a saturated calomel electrode.

Cyanide-bridged NiCr and alternate NiFe-NiCr magnetic ultrathin films on functionalized Si(100) surface

Sequential growth in solution (SGS) was performed for the magnetic cyanide-bridged network obtained from the reaction of Ni(H(2)O)(2+) and Cr(CN)(6)(3-) (referred to as NiCr) on a Si(100) wafer already functionalized by a Ni(II) complex. The growth process led to isolated dots and a low coverage of the surface. We used the NiFe network as a template to improve the growth of the magnetic network. We elaborated alternate NiFe (paramagnetic)-NiCr (ferromagnetic) ultrathin films around 6 nm thick. The magnetic behaviour confirmed the alternate structure with the ferromagnetic zones isolated between the paramagnetic ones since the evolution of the blocking temperature is consistent with the evolution of the layers' thickness expected from the SGS process.
