Synthesis, Electrochemistry, and Photophysical Properties of a Series of Luminescent Pyrene-Thiophene Dyads and the Corresponding Co2(CO)6 Complexes

Pyrene-Terminated Tin Sulfide Clusters: Optical Properties and Deposition on a Metal Surface

Herein, we present the synthesis of two pyrene-functionalized clusters, [(Rpyr Sn)4 S6 ]⋅2 CH2 Cl2 (4) and [(Rpyr Sn)4 Sn2 S10 ]⋅n CH2 Cl2 (n=4, 5 a; n=2, 5 b; Rpyr =CMe2 CH2 C(Me)N-NC(H)C16 H9 ), both of which form in reactions of the organotin sulfide cluster [(RN Sn)4 S6 ] (C; RN =CMe2 CH2 C(Me)N-NH2 ) with the well-known fluorescent dye 1-pyrenecarboxaldehyde (B). In contrast, reactions using an organotin sulfide cluster with another core structure, [(RN Sn)3 S4 Cl] (A), leads to formation of small molecular fragments, [(Rpyr Cl2 Sn)2 S] (1), (pyren-1-ylmethylene)hydrazine (2), and 1,2-bis(pyren-1-ylmethylene)hydrazine (3). Besides synthesis and structures of the new compounds, we report the influence of the inorganic core on the optical properties of the dye, which was analyzed exemplarily for compound 5 a via absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy. This cluster was also used for exploring the potential of such non-volatile clusters for deposition on a metal surface under vacuum conditions.

Palladium(ii) complexes with thiosemicarbazones derived from pyrene as topoisomerase IB inhibitors

New palladium complexes with thiosemicarbazonate ligands derived from pyrene exhibit potent antiproliferative activity against A2780 and cisplatin-resistant A2780Cis human ovarian cancer cells, which is dependent on substituent groups of the thiosemicarbazone ligands. Cellular accumulation and distribution studies confirmed that palladium enters the cell nucleus. DNA and topoisomerase IB studies show that one complex is a potent TopIB inhibitor, with selectivity for cancer versus normal cells.

Synthesis and biological evaluation of copper(ii) pyrenethiosemicarbazone

A fluorescent Cu(ii) pyrenethiosemicarbazone complex exhibits enhanced DNA-cleavage and cytotoxicity on photoexcitation.

Synthesis and photophysical properties of novel thiophenylacrylonitrile derivatives containing a triphenylamine moiety

( Z)-2-(4-Halogenophenyl)-3-(thiophen-3-yl)acrylonitrile can be prepared by condensation of thiophene-3-carbaldehyde with arylacetonitrile halides in the presence of catalytic amounts of NaOCH3 at room temperature. Secondary arylamines reacted with ( Z)-2-(4-halogenophenyl)-3-(thiophen-3-yl)acrylonitriles to afford thiophenylacrylonitrile derivatives containing a triphenylamine moiety on catalysis by Pd(OAc)2/P( o-tolyl)3 at 120°C in toluene. The UV-Vis absorption and photoluminescent (PL) spectra of the products in CH2Cl2were investigated.

Electronic structures of bis- and monothiophene complexes with Fe, Co, Ni: a density functional theory study

A density functional theory study for the bis- and monothiophene complexes of Fe, Co, and Ni (MT2 and MT, T = thiophene, M = Fe, Co, Ni) was performed to understand their coordination geometries, bonding properties, vibration spectra and singlet excited state spectra. The typical metal coordination exists in the complexes. The Fe-thiophene coordination has the highest stability, with Ni-thiophene being the second highest, and Co-thiophene the lowest. Bisthiophene complexes of Co and Ni prefer to homolytically dissociate to their monothiophene ones and free thiophene. Frequency calculation shows that the ligand-M-ligand asymmetric stretching vibration in bisthiophene complexes shows a strong absorption, at 435.2, 495.7, and 383 cm(-1) for Fe(eta4-T)2, Co(eta2-T)2 and Ni(eta2-T)2, respectively. The M-S stretching vibration in monothiophene complexes shows a strong absorption in the far-infrared region, at 209, 156, and 150 cm(-1) for Fe(eta4-T), Co(eta4-T) and Ni(eta5-T), respectively. The excited state spectra indicate that the characteristic absorption wavelengths of the complexes have a red shift of more than 12.40 eV compared to free thiophene, at 3.54, 1.64, 3.83, 2.75, 1.43, and 2.58 eV for Fe(eta4-T)2, Co(eta2-T)2, Ni(eta2-T)2, Fe(eta4-T), Co(eta4-T), and Ni(eta5-T), respectively.
