Abstract
Reaction of Co(NCS)2 with 4-bromopyridine leads to the formation of discrete complexes with the composition Co(NCS)2(4-bromopyridine)4·(CH3CN)0.67 (1), Co(NCS)2(4-bromopyridine)2(H2O)2 (2), Co(NCS)2(4-bromopyridine)2(CH3OH)2 (3) and Co(NCS)2(4-bromopyridine)2(CH3CN)2 (4). Upon heating compounds 2 and 4 transform into a crystalline product with the composition Co(NCS)2(4-bromopyridine)2 (5-I) that also can easily be obtained from solution. In this compound, the Co cations are linked by single μ-1,3-bridging thiocyanate anions into layers. Thermal decomposition of 3 leads to a second isomer (5-II), which is thermodynamically metastable and can also be synthesized from solution under kinetic control. In contrast to 5-I, the Co cations are linked by pairs of anionic ligands into linear chains. The magnetic exchange is very weak in 5-I, but much stronger and ferromagnetic along the linear chains in 5-II. AF ordering in 5-II is reached at 3.05 K, and magnetic relaxation is observed at the metamagnetic transition with an Arrhenius barrier of 17.1(3) cm-1. Ab initio computational studies reveal a different type of magnetic anisotropy to be present in the two crystallographically - independent Co centers in 5-II.

Abstract
High-pressure single-crystal X-ray diffraction at ambient temperature and high-pressure SQUID measurements down to 2 K were performed up to ∼2.5 GPa on ammonium metal formates, [NH4][M(HCOO)3] where M = Mn2+, Fe2+, and Ni2+, in order to correlate structural variations to magnetic behaviour. Similar structural distortions and phase transitions were observed for all compounds, although the transition pressures varied with the size of the metal cation. The antiferromagnetic ordering in [NH4][M(HCOO)3] compounds was maintained as a function of pressure, and the magnetic ordering transition temperature changed within a few kelvins depending on the structural distortion and the metal cation involved. These compounds, in particular [NH4][Fe(HCOO)3], showed greatest sensitivity to the degree of spin canting upon compression, clearly visible from the twenty-fold increase in the low-temperature magnetisation for [NH4][Fe(HCOO)3] at 1.4 GPa, and the change from purely antiferromagnetic to weakly ferromagnetic ordering in [NH4][Mn(HCOO)3] at 1 GPa. The variation in the exchange couplings and spin canting was checked with density-functional calculations that reproduce well the increase in canted moment within [NH4][Fe(HCOO)3] upon compression, and suggest that the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya (DM) interaction is evolving as a function of pressure. The pressure dependence of spin canting is found to be highly dependent on the metal cation, as magnetisation magnitudes did not change significantly for when M = Ni2+ or Mn2+. These results demonstrate that the overall magnetic behaviour of each phase upon compression was not only dependent on the structural distortions but also on the electronic configuration of the metal cation.

Abstract
The reaction of 1,2,4-triazole and NaF with M(ox) (M = transition-metal dication; ox = oxalate dianion) under hydrothermal conditions has led to the isolation of a variety of hybrid organic-inorganic coordination polymers. Four structurally different 3D networks were obtained, depending on the transition metal, with stoichiometry [M2(H2O)(μ2-ox)][M2(μ3-trz)6] [M = Fe (1), Co (2), Ni (3)], [Zn2(H2O)(μ3-trz)2(μ2-ox)] (4), [Mn3(μ3-trz)2(μ6-ox)(μ3-F)2] (5), and [Fe3(μ3-trz)2(μ6-ox)(μ2-F)2] (6). In all cases, the magnetic behavior is dominated by antiferromagnetic exchange interactions between paramagnetic centers. Remarkably, 5 and 6 present a novel magnetic connectivity around the oxalate anion: a μ6-bridging mode. This magnetic geometry promotes multiple triangular arrangements among antiferromagnetically coupled spin carriers, resulting in a complex magnetic network because of the presence of competing interactions. These materials exhibit spontaneous magnetization below 9 and 66 K, respectively.
