Comprehensive Review on Synthesis, Properties, and Applications of Phosphorus (PIII, PIV, PV) Substituted Acenes with More Than Two Fused Benzene Rings

This comprehensive review, covering the years 1968-2022, is not only a retrospective investigation of a certain group of linearly fused aromatics, called acenes, but also a presentation of the current state of the knowledge on the synthesis, reactions, and applications of these compounds. Their characteristic feature is substitution of the aromatic system by one, two, or three organophosphorus groups, which determine their properties and applications. The (P^III, P^IV, P^V) phosphorus atom in organophosphorus groups is linked to the acene directly by a P-C_sp2 bond or indirectly through an oxygen atom by a P-O-C_sp2 bond.

Synthesis and reactivity of PC(sp3)P-pincer iridium complexes bearing a diborylmethyl anion

Novel PCP-pincer iridium complexes bearing a diborylmethyl anion were synthesized. Strong σ-electron-donation to the metal and significant π-backdonation from the metal to boron atoms at the β-position were observed both experimentally and computationally. H/D exchange of the aromatic C-H bond proceeded smoothly and, in addition, the α-methine-hydrogen between boron atoms was found to be replaced with deuterium in benzene-d₆ solution possibly through diborylcarbene metal complexes as intermediates.

Hydroamination of Aromatic Alkynes to Imines Catalyzed by Pd(II)-Anthraphos Complexes

Herein, we report the synthesis, characterization, and catalytic performance of cationic Pd(II)-Anthraphos complexes in the intermolecular hydroamination of aromatic alkynes with aromatic amines. The reaction proceeds with 0.18 mol % of catalyst loading, at 90 °C for 4 h under neat conditions. Good to excellent yields could be obtained for a broad range of amines and alkynes.

ON-OFF luminescence signaling of hybrid organic-inorganic switches

The dyads 1OFF and 2OFF were prepared by combining the inorganic luminophores [Ru(phen)2(2-[imidazol-2-yl]pyridine)](2+) and [Re(CO)3Cl(2-[imidazol-2-yl]pyridine)] with 2-(anthracen-9-yl)-4-methylphenol as a second photoactive moiety. In both cases, the inorganic unit operates as the emitter, whereas the organic part acts as a controller. Emission of the inorganic luminophore can be reversibly switched ON and OFF by adjusting the energetic level of the (3)π-π* state of the appended anthracene unit through either dearomatization using a photohydration or aromatization applying a thermal dehydration. Emission of both switches is reversibly recorded and erased multiple times without significant degradation.
