New Cu(II), Mn(II) and Mn(III) Schiff base complexes cause noncovalent interactions: X-ray crystallography survey, Hirshfeld surface analysis and molecular simulation investigation against SARS-CoV-2. J Mol Struct 2023; 1278:134857. Abstract
In this study, polynuclear Cu(II) complex (1), Mn(II) and Mn(III) complex (2) have been prepared with a Schiff base ligand derived from 2-Hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde with 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol. The compounds were characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, and UV-Vis spectroscopy. The molecular and crystal structures of (1-2) were determined by the single-crystal x-ray diffraction technique. It turned out that Cu(II) complex (1) forms an S4 -symmetrical tetrameric cage structure, with square-planar coordinated Cu and bridging O atoms at the vertexes of the approximate cube. In the crystal structure of 1, there are large channels along the c-axis, between the tetramers; the solvent- DMSO molecules, occupies these channels. In turn, the complex (2) creates a centrosymmetric trimeric structure, with three octahedrally coordinated Mn ions bridged by O atoms from ligand molecules and acetate ions. The electrochemical behavior studies of the complexes in DMSO displayed the electronic effects of the groups on the redox potential. The redox behavior of Schiff base (1) and (2) complexes included quasi -reversible and irreversible voltammograms, respectively. Intermolecular interactions in the solid states were studied by Hirshfeld surface analysis. These studies provide a comprehensive description of these inter-contact exchanges using an attractive graphical representation using Hirshfeld surfaces and fingerprint plots, along with enrichment ratios. Furthermore, assessment of the inhibitory effect against coronavirus (main protease SARS-CoV-2) was performed by a molecular docking study for both complexes (1 and 2). Both complexes showed a good affinity for CoV-2 for PDB protein ID: 6M03 and 6Y2F.

Abstract
Structurally variable organochalcogen clusters containing palladium(II) and nickel(II) ions were assembled starting from the salicylidene-substituted dichalcogenides (Y-C6H4-N═CH-C6H4-OH)2 ({HLY}2, where Y = Se or Te), and palladium or nickel acetate. The tetrameric palladium clusters contain reduced chalcogenolato ligands {Y-C6H4-N═CH-C6H4-O)}2- ({L'Y}2-, where Y = Se or Te), while the initially formed trimeric nickel clusters contain the intact, coordinated dichalcogenides. The palladium clusters have a general formula of [Pd4(L'Y)4] and represent the first examples of palladium complexes where both a gyrobifastigial and a pseudocubane arrangement of the central Pd4Y4 unit could be established with the same ligand, only depending on the solvents used for crystallization. Reduced density gradient (RDG) considerations based on density functional theory calculations suggest that the commonly referred to stabilizing chalcogen-palladium or palladium-palladium interactions for the two geometric arrangements are weak van der Waals contacts resulting from the contact of two nonbinding lone pairs. In the case of the pseudocubane arrangement, a repulsive steric effect, which is indicated by RDG analysis, is clearly supported by the cuplike distortions detected in the solid-state structure of the compound. In contrast to the reactions with palladium acetate, where the dichalcogenides were cleaved, during similar reactions with nickel acetate, the dichalcogenides remained intact and trimeric clusters of the composition [Ni-μ2-κ2-(Ni{κ5-LY}2)2-μ2-(OAc)2] (Y = Se, Te) were formed. Air oxidation and hydrolysis of [Ni-μ2-κ2-(Ni{κ5-LTe}2)2-μ2-(OAc)2] gave a rare example of a hexanuclear nickel cluster of the composition [Ni2-κ5-(Ni4-κ6-μ6-{(L'Te2O3)(L'TeO2)2}2)-μ2-(H2O)2], which is composed of a well-defined framework consisting of tellurinic anhydride and tellurinate units, which proves the comparably higher oxidation sensitivity of the trinickel dichalcogenide complexes. Electron spray ionization mass spectrometry spectra of both the palladium and nickel clusters indicate that they show fluctional behavior with varying nuclearity in solution and can adopt multiple charge states especially because of the noninnocence of the chalcogen-based ligands. The complexes were fully characterized by spectroscopic methods, elemental analyses, and X-ray diffraction.

Abstract
Conjugated polymers (CPs) are emerging as part of a promising future for gas-sensing applications. However, some of their limitations, such as poor specificity, humidity sensitivity and poor ambient stability, remain persistent. Herein, a novel combination of a polymer-monomer heterostructure, derived from a CP (PDVT-10) and a newly reported monomer [tris(keto-hydrazone)] has been integrated in an organic field-effect transistor (OFET) platform to sense H2S selectively. The hybrid heterostructure shows an unprecedented sensitivity (525% ppm-1) and high selectivity toward H2S gas. In addition, we demonstrated that the PDVT-10/tris(keto-hydrazone) OFET sensor has the lowest limit of detection (1 ppb), excellent ambient stability (∼5% current degradation after 150 days), good response-recovery behavior, and exceptional electrical behavior and gas response reproducibility. This work can help pave the way to incorporate futuristic gas sensors in a multitude of applications.

Abstract
Design and development of multifunctional materials have drawn incredible attraction in recent years. Herein, we report the design and construction of versatile star-shaped intramolecular charge transfer (ICT)-coupled excited-state intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT)-active mechanoresponsive and aggregation-induced emissive (AIE) luminogen triaminoguanidine-diethylaminophenol (LH3 ) conjugate from simple precursors triaminoguanidine hydrochloride and 4-(N,N-diethylamino)salicylaldehyde. Solvent-dependent dual emission in nonpolar to polar protic solvents implies the presence of ICT-coupled ESIPT features in the excited state. Aggregation-enhanced emissive feature of LH3 was established in the CH3CN/water mixture. Furthermore, this compound exhibits mechanochromic fluorescence behavior upon external grinding. Fluorescence microscopy images of pristine, crystal, and crushed crystals confirm the naked-eye mechanoresponsive characteristics of LH3 . In addition, LH3 selectively sensed a Cu2+ ion through a colorimetric and fluorescence "turn-off" route, and subsequently, the LH3 -Cu2+ ensemble could act as a selective and sensitive sensor for S2- in a "turn-on" fluorescence manner via a metal displacement approach. Reversible "turn-off-turn-on" features of LH3 with Cu2+/S2- ions were efficiently demonstrated to construct the IMPLICATION logic gate function. The Cu2+/S2--responsive sensing behavior of LH3 was established in the paper strip experiment also, which can easily be characterized by the naked eye under daylight as well as a UV lamp (λ = 365 nm).

Abstract
We report a structure of ferrocene-pyrene conjugate (1) comprising electro and photo-active dual-signaling units. In particular, 1 upon interaction with Cu(II), displays selectively one-photon fluorescence quenching, but it shows two-photon absorption (TPA) cross-section 1230 GM (at 780 nm). Further, 1 displayed two irreversible oxidative waves at 0.39 V and 0.80 V (vs Ag/AgCl), in the electrochemical analysis which upon addition of Cu2+, led to the negative potential shift in both the oxidative waves to appear at 0.25 V and 0.68 V. The triple mode changes in presence of Cu(II) suggesting the possible application of 1 for the detection of Cu(II) in aqueous media. Graphical Abstract.
