Abstract
Palladium complexes of ferrocenylpyrazolylpyridine and ferrocenylpyrazolylamine were synthesised and screened as pre-catalysts (1–4) for olefin polymerisation. The pre-catalysts 1–4 on activation with EtAlCl2 in the presence of ethylene with chlorobenzene or hexane as solvent were highly active with 1 being the most active, with an activity of 360 kg mol Pd−1 h−1. The major product from the reaction was 1-butene and high carbon content oligomers. The molecular weight (m/z) of the high carbon content oligomers is as high as 623.0. When toluene is used as solvent, the products obtained were ethyltoluene and butyltoluene and 1-butene. The electronic properties of the ligands (L1–L7) and complexes (1–10) were determined by cyclic voltammetry (CV) and molecular modelling. The CV results show that the ferrocenyl is easily oxidized upon the introduction of pyrazolyl derivatives, the process is quasi-reversible. However, complexation of the ligands with palladium or nickel results in difficulty in oxidizing the ferrocenyl moiety. This is an indication of the electrophilic nature of both the palladium and nickel centres. The mechanism of the oxidation was observed to be diffusion-controlled and is independent of scan rate. Molecular modelling experiments show that nickel and palladium complexes have lower HOMO–LUMO gaps and high global descriptors, an indication of a highly electrophilic metal centre. A plot of the electrophilicity indices of the pre-catalysts against yield of the oligomers show a linear correlation, an indication that the electrophilicity of the metal centre plays an important role in the activity of these pre-catalysts. Studying the correlation between the electrophilicity of the metal centre and the activity of the resulting catalyst using electrochemistry and computation modelling.![]()

Abstract
[C20H17N3O2] and cobalt (II) complex [Co(L2)(MeOH)2].ClO4, (L2 = 4-((E)-1-((2-(((E)-pyridin-2-ylmethylene) amino) phenyl) imino) ethyl) benzene-1, 3-diol) novel Schiff base has been synthesiszed and chracterized by Fourier transform infrared, UV-vis, 1H-NMR spectroscopy, and elemental analysis techniques. The interaction of Co(II) complex with DNA and BSA was investigated by electronic absorption spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy, circular dichroism, and thermal denaturation studies. Our experiments indicate that this complex could strongly bind to CT-DNA via minor groove mechanism. In addition, fluorescence spectrometry of BSA with the complex showed that the fluorescence quenching mechanism of BSA was of static type. The complex exhibited significant in vitro cytotoxicity against three human cancer cell lines (JURKAT, SKOV3, and U87). The molecular docking experiment effectively proved the binding of complex to DNA and BSA. Finally, antibacterial assay over gram-positive and gram-negative pathogenic bacterial strains was studied.

Abstract
New unsymmetrically substituted ferrocenyl-phosphonium ionic liquids (ILs) [FcPR2R']NTf2 are synthesized by two or three step syntheses starting from ferrocene, Fc = (C5H5)Fe(C5H4); R = Me, (n)Bu, (n)Hex, Ph; R' = Me, (n)Pr, (n)Bu, Ph; NTf2 = N(SO2CF3)2. The selective synthesis of alkyl phosphines FcPR2via a Friedel-Crafts phosphorylation is highlighted as an alternative for the standard protocol commonly used for ferrocenyl arylphosphines involving lithiation of FcH followed by phosphorylation. The influence of the P-substituents on thermal stability, electrochemical potential, chemical shift, and UV-Vis absorption behavior of the ILs is studied. The phosphonium group acts both as an ionic tag and as an electron-withdrawing substituent directly bound at the Cp-ring position. Therefore the title compounds are attractive for further studies to use them as tunable redox mediators for (photo)electrochemical devices such as dye sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) or redox flow batteries.

Abstract
A family of rigid ferrocenyl-terminated redox stars has been synthesized--by Negishi coupling, including hexa(ferrocenethynyl)benzene complexes, a dodecaferrocenyl star, and stars with extended rigid tethers--and fully characterized. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) studies of the parent complex hexa(ferrocenylethynyl)benzene, 1, show a single wave for the six-electron oxidation of 1 using Nn-Bu(4)PF(6) as the supporting electrolyte on a Pt anode in CH(2)Cl(2), whereas three distinct two-electron reversible CV waves are observed using Nn-Bu(4)BAr(F)(4) (Ar(F) = 3,5-C(6)H(3)-(CF(3))(2)). The CV of 1,3,5-tris(ferrocenylethynyl)benzene, 11, also shows only one wave for the three-electron transfer with Nn-Bu(4)PF(6) and three one-electron waves using Nn-Bu(4)BAr(F)(4). This confirms the lack of electronic communication between the ferrocenyl groups and a significant electrostatic effect among the oxidized ferrocenyl groups. This effect is not significant between para-ferrocenyl groups in 1,4-bis(ferrocenylethynyl)benzene for which only a single wave is observed even with Nn-Bu(4)BAr(F)(4) as the supporting electrolyte. The para-ferrocenyl substituents are quite independent, which explains that two para-ferrocenyl groups are oxidized at about the same potential in a single CV wave of 1. With the additional steric bulk introduced with a methyl substituent on the ferrocenyl group, however, even the para-methylferrocenyl groups are submitted to a small electrostatic effect splitting the six-electron transfer into six single-electron waves, probably because of the overall steroelectronic constraints. Contrary to 11, 1,3-bis(ferrocenylethynyl)benzene and related complexes with a third, different substituent in the remaining meta position different from a ferrocenylethynyl only show a single two-electron wave using Nn-Bu(4)BAr(F)(4), which is attributed to the transoïd conformation of the ferricinium groups minimizing the electrostatic effect. This shows that, in 11, it is the steric frustration that is responsible for the electrostatic effect, and the same occurs in 1. In several cases, ΔE(p) is much larger than the expected 60 mV value, characterizing a quasi-reversible (i.e., relatively slow) redox process. It is suggested that this slower electron transfer be attributed to conformational rearrangement of the ferrocenyl groups toward the transoïd position in the course of electron transfer. Thus both the thermodynamic and kinetic aspects of the electrostatic factor (isolated from the electronic factor), including the frustration effect, are characterized. The distinction between the electronic communication and through-space electrostatic effect was made possible in all of these complexes in which the absence of wave splitting using a strongly ion-pairing electrolyte shows the absence of significant electronic communication, and was confirmed by the new frustration phenomenon.

Abstract
The first demonstration of photochemical enediyne liberation from a metal complex has led to a new class of enediynes, the cyclopentadienidoenediynes, which are demonstrated to exist as air-stable solids with low ionization potentials and large dipole moments. NMR and IR spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography, and ab initio computations enable a comparison with the ubiquitous benzoenediynes.
