Abstract
The title compound, [ReO2(C6H7N)4]PF6, contains octahedral [ReO2(4-Mepy)4]+ cations (4-Mepy is 4-methylpyridine) and PF6− anions. Both the cation and the anion reside on special positions, the Re atom on a crystallographic center of inversion and the P atom on a C2 axis parallel to the b axis. The ReV atom in the cation exhibits an octahedral coordination geometry with two O atoms in the apical positions and four N atoms of the 4-Mepy ligands in the equatorial plane. The Re=O and Re—N bond lengths fall in the typical ranges of trans-dioxidorhenium(V) complexes.

Abstract
This work details an in-depth evaluation of an unprecedented mechanism for the hydrosilylation of carbonyl compounds catalyzed by (PPh3)2Re(O)2I. The proposed mechanism involves addition of a silane Si-H bond across one of the rhenium-oxo bonds to form siloxyrhenium hydride intermediate 2 that reacts with a carbonyl substrate to generate siloxyrhenium alkoxide 4, which, in turn, affords the silyl ether product. Compelling evidence for the operation of this pathway includes the following: (a) isolation and structural characterization by X-ray diffraction of siloxyrhenium hydride intermediate 2, (b) demonstration of the catalytic competence of intermediate 2 in the hydrosilylation reaction, (c) 1H and 31P{1H} NMR and ESI-MS evidence for single-turnover conversion of 2 into 1, (d) observation of intermediate 2 in the working catalyst system, and (e) kinetic analysis of the catalytic hydrosilylation of carbonyl compounds by 1.

Abstract
Cationic Re(V) oxo compounds of the type [ReO(OSiMe3)(eta 2-B(pz)4)(L)2]X [X = Cl, L = 4-(NMe2)C5H4N (1), 1-Meimz (1-methylimidazole; 2), 1/2 dmpe (1,2-bis(dimethylphosphino)ethane; 3), py (4a); X = I, L = py (4b)] can be prepared by reacting trans-[ReO2(eta 2-B(pz)4)(L)2] with XSiMe3. In solution, cations 1-4 are reactive species, and those with unidentate nitrogen donor ligands (1, 2, and 4) rearrange into the neutral derivatives [ReO(Cl)(OSiMe3)(eta 2-B(pz)4)(L)] [L = py (5), 4-(NMe2)C5H4N (6), 1-Meimz (7)], which are also reported herein. Compounds 1-3 and 5-7 have been fully characterized by the usual spectroscopic techniques, which in some cases includes X-ray crystallographic analysis (3, 6, and 7). Compound 3 crystallizes from CH2Cl2/n-hexane as yellow crystals with one molecule of CH2Cl2 solvent, and compounds 6 and 7 crystallize from THF/n-hexane as violet and red crystals, respectively, with one molecule of THF solvent in the case of 6.
