Steric and Solvation Effects on the Aggregation of Lithium Thioamidates: Single-Strand Polymers with (LiS)(n)() and (LiNCS)(n)() Backbones

Design of new heteroscorpionate ligands and their coordinative ability toward Group 4 transition metals; an efficient synthetic route to obtain enantiopure ligands

The reaction of different types of bis(pyrazol-1-yl)methane derivatives with Bu(n)Li and alkyl or aryl-containing-isocyanates or isothiocyanates, some of these as chiral reagents, gives rise to the preparation of new heteroscorpionate ligands in the form of the lithium derivatives [Li(NNE)]2 (1-10), although a similar process with trimethylsilyl isocyanate or isothiocyanate gave the complexes [Li(NCX)(bdmpzs)(THF)](X = O, 11; X = S, 12)[bdmpzs = bis(3,5-dimethylpyrazol-1-yl)trimethylsilylmethane]. Compounds 1-8 reacted with [TiCl4(THF)2] or [MCl4](M = Zr, Hf) to give a series of cationic complexes [MCl3{kappa3-NNE(H)}]Cl (13-36) where the heteroscorpionate ligand contains either an acetamide or thioacetamide group resulting from the protonation of the corresponding acetamidate or thioacetamidate. However, under appropriate experimental conditions neutral Ti complexes were isolated-namely [TiClx(NMe2)3-x(S-mbbpam)](37-39)[S-mbbpam =(S)-(-)-N-alpha-methylbenzyl-2,2-bis(3,5-dimethylpyrazol-1-yl)acetamidate]. Finally, two alkoxide-containing titanium complexes [TiClx(OR)3-x(S-mbbpamH)]Cl (40-41) were also prepared. The structures of these complexes have been determined by spectroscopic methods and, in addition, the X-ray crystal structures of 1, 12, and 19 were also established.

Reaction and Characterization of Thioamide Dianions Derived from N-Benzyl Thioamides

Thioamide dianions were generated by the highly efficient reaction of N-benzyl thioamides with 2 equiv of BuLi. Alkylation, allylation, and silylation took place selectively at the carbon atom adjacent to the nitrogen atom of the thioamide dianions. Oxiranes and an aldehyde were also used as electrophiles in the reaction of thioamide dianions to form N-thioacyl 1,3- or 1,2-amino alcohols. The insertion reaction of elemental sulfur to a thioamide dianion and subsequent ethylation afforded a N-thioacyl hemithioaminal. NMR studies on the thioamide mono- and dianions derived from N-benzyl 2-methoxythiobenzamide showed a linear relationship between the chemical shifts of all carbon atoms of thioamide mono- and dianions. The results also suggested that the negative charge at the benzylic carbon atom of the dianion is not fully delocalized. The charge distribution patterns of the dianion are consistent with those of pi polarization.

Lithiation of tris(alkyl- and arylamido)orthophosphates EP[N(H)R]3 (E = O, S, Se): imido substituent effects and P=E bond cleavage

In the solid state, OP[N(H)Me](3) (1a) and OP[N(H)(t)Bu](3) (1b) have hydrogen-bonded structures that exhibit three-dimensional and one-dimensional arrays, respectively. The lithiation of 1b with 1 equiv of (n)BuLi generates the trimeric monolithiated complex (THF)[LiOP(N(t)Bu)[N(H)(t)Bu](2)](3) (4), whereas reaction with an excess of (n)BuLi produces the dimeric dilithium complex [(THF)(2)Li(2)OP(N(t)Bu)(2)[N(H)(t)Bu]](2) (5). Complex 4 contains a Li(2)O(2) ring in an open-ladder structure, whereas 5 embraces a central Li(2)O(2) ring in a closed-ladder arrangement. Investigations of the lithiation of tris(alkyl or arylamido)thiophosphates, SP[N(H)R](3) (2a, R = (i)Pr; 2b, R = (t)Bu; 2c, R = p-tol) with (n)BuLi reveal interesting imido substituent effects. For the alkyl derivatives, only mono- or dilithiation is observed. In the case of R = (t)Bu, lithiation is accompanied by P-S bond cleavage to give the dilithiated cyclodiphosph(V/V)azane [(THF)(2)Li(2)[((t)BuN)(2)P(micro-N(t)Bu)(2)P(N(t)Bu)(2)]] (9). Trilithiation occurs for the triaryl derivatives EP[N(H)Ar](3) (E = S, Ar = p-tolyl; E = Se, Ar = Ph), as demonstrated by the preparation of [(THF)(4)Li(3)[SP(Np-tol)(3)]](2) (10) and [(THF)(4)Li(3)[SeP(NPh)(3)]](2) (11), which are accompanied by the formation of small amounts of 10.[LiOH(THF)](2) and 11.Li(2)Se(2)(THF)(2), respectively.
