Abstract
Formate dehydrogenases (FDH) reversibly catalyze the interconversion of CO2 to formate. They belong to the family of molybdenum and tungsten-dependent oxidoreductases. For several decades, scientists have been synthesizing structural and functional model complexes inspired by these enzymes. These studies not only allow for finding certain efficient catalysts but also in some cases to better understand the functioning of the enzymes. However, FDH models for catalytic CO2 reduction are less studied compared to the oxygen atom transfer (OAT) reaction. Herein, we present recent results of structural and functional models of FDH.

Abstract
Throughout the previous ten years many scientists took inspiration from natural molybdenum and tungsten-dependent oxidoreductases to build functional active site analogues. These studies not only led to an ever more detailed mechanistic understanding of the biological template, but also paved the way to atypical selectivity and activity, such as catalytic hydrogen evolution. This review is aimed at representing the last decade’s progress in the research of and with molybdenum and tungsten functional model compounds. The portrayed systems, organized according to their ability to facilitate typical and artificial enzyme reactions, comprise complexes with non-innocent dithiolene ligands, resembling molybdopterin, as well as entirely non-natural nitrogen, oxygen, and/or sulfur bearing chelating donor ligands. All model compounds receive individual attention, highlighting the specific novelty that each provides for our understanding of the enzymatic mechanisms, such as oxygen atom transfer and proton-coupled electron transfer, or that each presents for exploiting new and useful catalytic capability. Overall, a shift in the application of these model compounds towards uncommon reactions is noted, the latter are comprehensively discussed.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Raudra rasa is an ayurvedic medicine explicitly prescribed for the treatment of arbuda (cancer), whereas hiraka bhasma has the potential to promote cancer healing properties. Together, these two medicines provide multifunction benefits. This paper analyses the functional groups of Raudra rasa modified with hiraka bhasma and compares it with the classically prepared raudra rasa. To identify the functional group, organic ligands, and active compounds present in samples of raudra rasa (CRR) and modified raudra rasa with hiraka bhasma (MRR) contributing to cancer alleviation by using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) & LC-MS analysis. METHODS Classical raudra rasa (CRR), its ingredients, shadguna kajjali (SK); decoction of Piper betel Linn. (PBD); Amaranthus spinosus Linn. (ASD); Boerhaavia diffusa Linn. (BDD); Piper longum Linn. (PLD); cow urine (GM), & similarly modified raudra rasa (MRR), its ingredients, hiraka bhasma (HB); shadguna rasasindura (SHR); water-soluble extract of Piper betel Linn. (PBE); Amaranthus spinosus Linn. (ASE); Boerhaavia diffusa Linn. (BDE); cow urine ark (GA); Piper Longum Linn. (PLE) were subjected to FTIR and LC-MS analysis. RESULTS Among all 15 samples studied, maximum numbers of peaks (21) were seen in MRR indicating a greater number of functional groups. Further, in MRR, a maximum peak in the double bond region is suggestive of its higher stability compared to CRR. Both the compound is preliminarily a mixture of the number of functional groups like; fluoro, methyl, amino, hydroxy, nitro, methylamino, carbonyl, and iodo groups, having known anti-proliferative activities. By the FT-IR analysis, the biologically active compounds in aqueous and methanol extract of CRR & MRR were identified that have anti-cancerous compounds. In the present study, a total of 40 major compounds like alkaloids, amino acid, carboxylic acid, Flavonoids, Nucleoside, Nucleotide, phenylpropanoid, Sphingosine, stilbenoid, sugar, phosphate, terpenoids, vitamin from aqueous & methanol extract of CRR & MRR were identified by LC-MS. CONCLUSIONS This research paper highlights the presence of different functional groups and bioactive compounds known to have anti-cancer activities. Thus, this review suggests future recommendations for the design and development of improved anticancer drugs with higher efficacy.

A Mixed-Valence Tetra-Nuclear Nickel Dithiolene Complex: Synthesis, Crystal Structure, and the Lability of Its Nickel Sulfur Bonds. INORGANICS 2020. Abstract
In this study, by employing a common synthetic protocol, an unusual and unexpected tetra-nuclear nickel dithiolene complex was obtained. The synthesis of the [Ni4(ecpdt)6]2− dianion (ecpdt = (Z)-3-ethoxy-3-oxo-1-phenylprop-1-ene-1,2-bis-thiolate) with two K+ as counter ions was then intentionally reproduced. The formation of this specific complex is attributed to the distinct dithiolene precursor used and the combination with the then coordinated counter ion in the molecular solid-state structure, as determined by X-ray diffraction. K2[Ni4(ecpdt)6] was further characterized by ESI-MS, FT-IR, UV-Vis, and cyclic voltammetry. The tetra-nuclear complex was found to have an uncommon geometry arising from the combination of four nickel centers and six dithiolene ligands. In the center of the arrangement, suspiciously long Ni–S distances were found, suggesting that the tetrameric structure can be easily split into two identical dimeric fragments or two distinct groups of monomeric fragments, for instance, upon dissolving. A proposed variable magnetism in the solid-state and in solution due to the postulated dissociation was confirmed. The Ni–S bonds of the “inner” and “outer” nickel centers differed concurrently with their coordination geometries. This observation also correlates with the fact that the complex bears two anionic charges requiring the four nickel centers to be present in two distinct oxidation states (2 × +2 and 2 × +3), i.e., to be hetero-valent. The different coordination geometries observed, together with the magnetic investigation, allowed the square planar “outer” geometry to be assigned to d8 centers, i.e., Ni2+, while the Ni3+ centers (d7) were in a square pyramidal geometry with longer Ni–S distances due to the increased number of donor atoms and interactions.

Abstract
An original synthesis of the fused pyranoquinoxaline dithiolene ligand qpdt(2-) is discussed in detail. The most intriguing step is the introduction of the dithiolene moiety by Pd-catalyzed carbon-sulfur coupling. The corresponding Mo(IV)O complex (Bu4N)2 [MoO(qpdt)2] (2) underwent reversible protonation in a strongly acidic medium and remained stable under anaerobic conditions. Besides, 2 was found to be very sensitive towards oxygen, as upon oxidation it formed a planar dithiin derivative. Moreover, the qpdt(2-) ligand in the presence of [MoCl4 (tBuNC)2] formed a tetracyclic structure. The products resulting from the unique reactivity of qpdt(2-) were characterized by X-ray diffraction, mass spectrometry, NMR spectroscopy, UV/Vis spectroscopy, and electrochemistry. Plausible mechanisms for the formation of these products are also proposed.

Abstract
New bis(ene-1,2-dithiolato)-oxido-alcoholato molybdenum(VI) and -oxido-thiolato molybdenum(VI) anionic complexes, denoted as [Mo(VI)O(ER)L2](-) (E = O, S; L = dimethoxycarboxylate-1,2-ethylenedithiolate), were obtained from the reaction of the corresponding dioxido-molybdenum(VI) precursor complex with either an alcohol or a thiol in the presence of an organic acid (e.g., 10-camphorsulfonic acid) at low temperature. The [Mo(VI)O(ER)L2](-) complexes were isolated and characterized, and the structure of [Mo(VI)O(OEt)L2](-) was determined by X-ray crystallography. The Mo(VI) center in [Mo(VI)O(OEt)L2](-) exhibits a distorted octahedral geometry with the two ene-1,2-dithiolate ligands being symmetry inequivalent. The computed structure of [Mo(VI)O(SR)L2](-) is essentially identical to that of [Mo(VI)O(OR)L2](-). The electronic structures of the resulting molybdenum(VI) complexes were evaluated using electronic absorption spectroscopy and bonding calculations. The nature of the distorted O(h) geometry in these [Mo(VI)O(EEt)L2](-) complexes results in a lowest unoccupied molecular orbital wave function that possesses strong π* interactions between the Mo(d(xy)) orbital and the cis S(p(z)) orbital localized on one sulfur donor from a single ene-1,2-dithiolate ligand. The presence of a covalent Mo-S(dithiolene) bonding interaction in these monooxido Mo(VI) compounds contributes to their low-energy ligand-to-metal charge transfer transitions. A second important d-p π bonding interaction derives from the ∼180° O(oxo)-Mo-E-C dihedral angle involving the alcoholate and thiolate donors, and this contributes to ancillary ligand contributions to the electronic structure of these species. The formation of [Mo(VI)O(OEt)L2](-) and [Mo(VI)O(SEt)L2](-) from the dioxidomolybdenum(VI) precursor may be regarded as a model for the active-site formation process that occurs in the dimethyl sulfoxide reductase family of pyranopterin molybdenum enzymes.

Abstract
A molybdenum-dithiolene-oxo complex was prepared as a model of some active sites of Mo/W-dependent enzymes. The ligand, a quinoxaline-pyran-fused dithiolene, mimics molybdopterin present in these active sites. For the first time, this type of complex was shown to be active as a catalyst for the photoreduction of protons with excellent turnover numbers (500) and good stability in aqueous/organic media and for the electroreduction of protons in acetonitrile with remarkable rate constants (1030 s(-1) at -1.3 V versus Ag/AgCl). DFT calculations provided insight into the catalytic cycle of the reaction, suggesting that the oxo ligand plays a key role in proton exchange. These results provide a basis to optimize this new class of H2 -evolving catalysts.

Abstract
The chemistry of low-valent iron porphyrin complexes with oxyl radical reagents has been explored. (Meso-tetramesityl porphyrinato) iron(III) hydroxide, (TMP)FeIII(OH) reacts with the hydroxylamine TEMPO-H (1-hydroxy-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperdine) to yield the ferrous porphyrin, (TMP)FeII, together with H2O and TEMPO. This reaction has a second order rate constant k1 = 76 ± 5 M-1 1 s-1 and likely occurs by concerted e-/H+ transfer. Hydrazines PhNHNHPh and PhNHNH2 similarly yield (TMP)FeII. A subsequent reaction between TEMPO (2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperdinyl radical) and (TMP)FeII is observed to reversibly form the TEMPO-ligated ferric porphyrin, (TMP)FeIII(TEMPO). A combination of 1H NMR and optical spectroscopies were used to determine the thermodynamic parameters for TEMPO binding: K4 (25°C) = 535 ± 20 M-1, ΔH°4 = -7.0 ± 1.5 kcal mol-1, ΔS°4= -11 ± 5 cal mol-1 K-1, ΔG‡4(235K) = 21.3 ± 0.5 kcal mol-1, ΔG‡-4(235K) = 16.9 ± 0.5 kcal mol-1. The Fe-O bond is remarkably weak. The stable phenoxyl radical 2,4,6- t Bu3C6H2O• (ArO•) forms a stronger bond to (TMP)FeII to irreversibly make a similar FeIII(OR) complex. Both (TMP)FeII and (TMP)FeIII(OH) are catalysts for the disproportionation of excess TEMPO-H to TEMPO and TEMP-H (2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperdine). The lack of reactivity between (TMP)FeII and the alkylated TEMPO-H analogue, TEMPO-CH3, suggests that the disproportionation involves a hydrogen atom transfer step. These results highlight the importance and versatility of the heme FeIII/II couple that is often overshadowed by its higher-valent counterparts.

Abstract
Synthesis and characterization of dithiolene complexes of arsenic and antimony in trivalent state have been reported. A four coordinated structural motif results in a ladder like arrangement in the arsenic complex due to the inter-anionic As-S interaction which is replaced by Sb-π interaction with the counter cation in the solid state structure of the similar antimony complex. Electronic structure calculations on ground state geometries and the time-dependent density functional theoretical calculations were performed in order to characterize the absorption spectra incorporating solvent effects. Notably, both the complexes display intense second order optical non-linearity as has been determined using hyper-Rayleigh scattering technique in dichloromethane solution and the results are corroborated by DFT calculations.

Abstract
Protonation-assisted deoxygenation of a mono-oxo molybdenum center has been observed in many oxotransferases when the enzyme removes an oxo group to regenerate a substrate binding site. Such a reaction is reported here with discrete synthetic mono-oxo bis(dithiolene) molybdenum and tungsten complexes, the chemistry of which had been rarely studied because of the instability of the resulting deoxygenated products. An addition of tosylic acid to an acetonitrile solution of [Mo(IV)O(S2C2Ph2)2](2-) (1) and [W(IV)O(S2C2Ph2)2](2-) (2) results in the loss of oxide with a concomitant formation of novel deoxygenated complexes, [M(MeCN)2(S2C2Ph2)2] (M = Mo (3), W (4)), that have been isolated and characterized. Whereas protonation of 1 exclusively produces 3, two different reaction products can be generated from 2; an oxidized product, [WO(S2C2Ph2)2](-), is produced with 1 equiv of acid while a deoxygenated product, [W(MeCN)2(S2C2Ph2)2] (4), is generated with an excess amount of proton. Alternatively, complexes 3 and 4 can be obtained from photolysis of [Mo(CO)2(S2C2Ph2)2] (5) and [W(CO)2(S2C2Ph2)2] (6) in acetonitrile. A di- and a monosubstituted adducts of 3, [Mo(CO)2(S2C2Ph2)2] (5) and [Mo(PPh3)(MeCN)(S2C2Ph2)2] (7) are also reported.

Abstract
Four members of the rhenium tris(dithiolene) electron transfer series have been prepared, [Re(S(2)C(2)R(2))(3)](z) {R = Ph, z = 1+ (1), 0 (2), 1- (3); R = CN, z = 2- (4)}, with the anions in 3 and 4 structurally characterized. The intraligand C-S and C-C bond lengths for 3 vs 2 are indicative of ligand reduction concomitant with an overall distorted trigonal prismatic geometry (Θ = 26.3° cf. 3.8° in 2). The distorted octahedral ReS(6) polyhedron in 4 (Θ = 38.3°) indicates reduction of the metal to a Re(IV) d(3) central ion. This series has been probed by sulfur K-edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS), and the electronic structures are unambiguously defined as follows: [Re(V)(L(3)(4-))](1+) (S = 0) for the monocation in 1; [Re(V)(L(3)(5-•))](0) (S = (1)/(2)) for neutral 2; [Re(V)(L(3)(6-))](1-) (S = 0) for the monoanion in 3; and [Re(IV)(L(3)(6-))](2-) (S = (1)/(2)) for the dianion in 4. The sulfur 3p character in the frontier orbitals-the covalency-is estimated by two different approaches. Method A utilizes the radial dipole integral (I(s)) derived from the S 1s → 4p transition, whereas method B, involves time-dependent density functional theoretical (TD-DFT) calculation of the pre-edge transitions and calibrated to the intensity in [Re(pdt)(3)] (pdt(2-) = 1,2-diphenyl-1,2-dithiolate). The two estimates are contrasted for the rhenium series and extended to the [V(pdt)(3)](0/1-), and [Mo(mdt)(3)](0/1-/2-) (mdt(2-) = 1,2-dimethyl-1,2-dithiolate) series, ultimately providing a refined description of the contested electronic structure of neutral molybdenum (and tungsten) tris(dithiolenes) compounds.

Abstract
The electronic structure of a genuine paramagnetic des-oxo Mo(V) catalytic intermediate in the reaction of dimethyl sulfoxide reductase (DMSOR) with (CH(3))(3)NO has been probed by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), electronic absorption, and magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) spectroscopies. EPR spectroscopy reveals rhombic g- and A-tensors that indicate a low-symmetry geometry for this intermediate and a singly occupied molecular orbital that is dominantly metal centered. The excited-state spectroscopic data were interpreted in the context of electronic structure calculations, and this has resulted in a full assignment of the observed MCD and electronic absorption bands, a detailed understanding of the metal-ligand bonding scheme, and an evaluation of the Mo(V) coordination geometry and Mo(V)-S(dithiolene) covalency as it pertains to the stability of the intermediate and electron-transfer regeneration. Finally, the relationship between des-oxo Mo(V) and des-oxo Mo(IV) geometric and electronic structures is discussed relative to the reaction coordinate in members of the DMSOR enzyme family.

Abstract
New square-pyramidal bis(ene-1,2-dithiolate)MoSe complexes, [Mo(IV)Se(L)(2)](2-), have been synthesised along with their terminal sulfido analogues, [Mo(IV)S(L)(2)](2-), using alkyl (L(C(4)H(8))), phenyl (L(Ph)) and methyl carboxylate (L(COOMe)) substituted dithiolene ligands (L). These complexes now complete three sets of Mo(IV)O, Mo(IV)S and Mo(IV)Se species that are coordinated with identical ene-1,2-dithiolate ligands. The [alkyl substituted Mo(S/Se)(L(C(4)H(8)))(2)](2-) complexes were reported in prior investigations (H. Sugimoto, T. Sakurai, H. Miyake, K. Tanaka and H. Tsukube, Inorg. Chem. 2005, 44, 6927, H. Tano, R. Tajima, H. Miyake, S. Itoh and H. Sugimoto, Inorg. Chem. 2008, 47, 7465). The new series of complexes enable a systematic investigation of terminal chalcogenido and supporting ene-1,2-dithiolate ligand effects on geometric structure, electronic structure, and spectroscopic properties. X-ray crystallographic analysis of these (Et(4)N)(2)[MoEL(2)] (E = terminal chalocogenide) complexes reveals an isostructural Mo centre that adopts a distorted square pyramidal geometry. The M≡E bond distances observed in the crystal structures and the ν(M≡E) vibrational frequencies indicate that these bonds are weakened with an increase in L→Mo electron donation (L(COOMe) < L(Ph) < L(C(4)H(8))), and this order is confirmed by an electrochemical study of the complexes. The (77)Se NMR resonances in MoSeL complexes appear at lower magnetic fields as the selenido ion became less basic from MoSeL(C(4)H(8)), MoSeL(Ph) and MoSeL(COOMe). Electronic absorption and resonance Raman spectroscopies have been used to assign key ligand-field, MLCT, LMCT and intraligand CT bands in complexes that possess the L(COOMe) ligand. The presence of low-energy intraligand CT transition in these MoEL(COOMe) compounds directly probes the electron withdrawing nature of the -COOMe substituents, and this underscores the complex electronic structure of square pyramidal bis(ene-1,2-dithiolate)-Mo(IV) complexes that possess extended dithiolene conjugation.

Abstract
A monooxomolybdenum(VI) model complex for the oxidized active site in the DMSOR family of molybdoenzymes has been synthesized and structurally characterized. The compound was obtained from the desoxomolybdenum(IV) derivative by clean oxygen-atom transfer from an amine N-oxide in a manner similar to that observed in the enzyme. A combination of electronic absorption and resonance Raman spectroscopies, coupled with the results of bonding and excited-state calculations, has been used to provide strong support for a highly covalent Mo(d(xy))-S(dithiolene) pi*-bonding interaction in the molybdenum(VI) complex. It is proposed that the resulting Mo-S covalency facilitates electron-transfer regeneration of the catalytically competent DMSOR Mo(IV) active site.

Abstract
The electronic structures of vanadium centers coordinated by three dithiolene ligands have been elucidated by using a host of physical methods: X-ray crystallography, cyclic voltammetry, electronic absorption, electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), and X-ray absorption spectroscopies, augmented by density functional theoretical (DFT) calculations. The consensus electronic structure derived from this approach is a V(IV) central ion for the neutral, monoanionic, and dianionic members of this electron transfer series, where the tris(dithiolene) ligand units are (L(3))(4-), (L(3))(5-*), and (L(3))(6-), respectively. The trigonal prismatic monoanions, [V(IV)(L(3)(5-*))](1-) (S = 0), are defined as singlet diradicals where the crystallographically observed dithiolene fold results from strong antiferromagnetic coupling between the metal- and ligand-based magnetic orbitals. These results are contrasted with the corresponding tris(dioxolene)vanadium electron transfer series toward establishing the factors that govern the molecular trigonal prismatic or octahedral geometries in systems with three redox noninnocent ligands.
