Synthesis and structure of isomeric palladium(II)-pyrazole chelate complexes with and without an N-H group as hydrogen bond donor

Redetermination of (E)-N,N′-bis(4-bromophenyl)formamidine

In comprison with the previous structural study [Anulewicz et al. (1991 ▶). Pol. J. Chem.65, 465–471], for which only the coordinates of all non-H atoms and of some H atoms were reported, the current redetermination of the title compound, C₁₃H₁₀Br₂N₂, additionally reports anisotropic displacement parameters for all non-H atoms and the coordinates of all H atoms, accompanied by higher accuracy of the geometric parameters. Two independent half-mol­ecules are present in the asymmetric unit, which are completed by a twofold rotation axis as symmetry element. In the crystal, inter­molecular N—H⋯N hydrogen bonds link the mol­ecules into dimers. Linear chains parallel to [102] are formed by inter­molecular Br⋯Br inter­actions of 3.4328 (7) Å between two Br atoms of adjacent mol­ecules. The dihedral angles between the benzene rings are 50.05 (15) and 75.61 (11)° in the two independent molecules. Owing to the twofold symmetry of the mol­ecules, H atoms attached to the N atoms are only half-occupied, leading to them being disordered over two positions of equal occupancy.

Ru and Os complexes containing a P,N-donor heterotopic ligand: the effect of solvent on stereochemistry

Ruthenium and osmium complexes of the general formula MCl 2(PyP) 2 (where PyP is the P,N- donor ligand 1-(2-diphenylphosphinoethyl)pyrazole) were synthesized from MCl 2(PPh 3) 3 (where M = Ru or Os). Three of the five possible stereoisomers of RuCl 2(PyP) 2 were synthesized and characterized in solution by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, and the structure of these in the solid state was determined by X-ray crystallography. Two of the analogous Os isomers were also synthesized. It was found that different solvents induced isomerization between these stereoisomers, indicating either lability of the chloride anion or hemilability of the PyP ligand. Bimetallic complexes of the general formula [Ru(mu-Cl)(PyP) 2] 2[X] 2 were synthesized from chloride abstraction from RuCl 2(PyP) 2 using either silver (X = OSO 2CF 3, BF 4) or sodium (X = BPh 4) salts. The osmium analogue of the Ru bimetallic complexes, [Os(mu-Cl)(PyP) 2] 2[BPh 4] 2, was also synthesized. Solid-state structures were obtained using X-ray crystallography for the osmium bimetallic complex and the ruthenium bimetallic complex where X = OSO 2CF 3. The hemilability of PyP was demonstrated through the synthesis of RuCl 2(CO)(kappa (1)- P-PyP)(kappa (2)- P, N-PyP), which contains one pendant PyP ligand, bound through the P-donor atom.

Binuclear palladium(I) and palladium(II) complexes of ortho-functionalized 1,3-bis(aryl)triazenido ligands

Three new bis(aryl)triazene ligands, Ar-NNNH-Ar' [Ar = o-C(6)H(4)-CO(2)Me, Ar' = p-C(6)H(4)-CH(3) (2); Ar = Ar' = o-C(6)H(4)-CO(2)Me (3); Ar = o-C(6)H(4)-SMe, Ar' = p-C(6)H(4)-CH(3)) (4)], have been synthesized. The reaction of 1-4 with PdCl(2)(NCCH(3))(2) in the presence of a base afforded a series of binuclear diamagnetic palladium complexes. In these reactions, ligands 1-3 afforded the palladium(I) complexes [Pd(I)(o-MeO(2)C-C(6)H(4)-NNN-o-C(6)H(4)-CO(2)Me)](2) (5, monoclinic, space group P21/c, a = 8.6070(10) Angstrom, b = 14.3220(10) Angstrom, c = 12.7310(10) Angstrom, beta = 100.2950(10) degrees, Z = 2), [Pd(I)(o-MeO-C(6)H(4)-NNN-o-C(6)H(4)-OMe)](2) (6, triclinic, space group P, a = 6.6288(5) Angstrom, b = 10.2631(10) Angstrom, c = 11.0246(11) Angstrom, alpha = 85.579(6) degrees, beta = 80.885(6) degrees, gamma = 74.607(6) degrees, Z = 1), and [Pd(I)(o-MeO(2)C-C(6)H(4)-NNN-p-C(6)H(4)-CH(3))](2) (7, tetragonal, space group I41/a, a = 20.866(3) Angstrom, b = 20.866(3) Angstrom, c = 13.156(2) Angstrom, Z = 8). In contrast, the reaction of ligand 4 with PdCl(2)(NCCH(3))(2) resulted in the formation of a palladium(II) dimer, [Pd(II)(o-MeS-C(6)H(4)-NNN-p-C(6)H(4)-CH(3))Cl](2) (8, orthorhombic, space group P2(1)2(1)2, a = 10.4058(5) Angstrom, b = 16.2488(8) Angstrom, c = 9.9500(5) Angstrom, Z = 2).

Sequential C-H activation and dinuclear insertion of ethylene promoted by a diiridium complex

Two ethylene molecules, bonded to different metal atoms of a diiridium(I) complex, can be converted into a bridging 3-butenyl-1-yl ligand and a terminal hydride. Such transformation is initiated by an ethylene C-H activation step and followed by an insertion of the second ethylene into a bridging vinyl ligand. This result illustrates the potentiality of diiridium(I) complexes to promote and support reaction sequences of alkene functionalization through C-H activation.

Hydrogen bonding in the crystal structure of bis{3-[(thiomethyl)methyl]pyrazole}copper(II) perchlorate

The ability of a metal-coordinated pyrazole to engage in hydrogen bonding has been explored by synthesis of the title complex, bis[3-([thiomethyl]methyl)pyrazole]copper(II) perchlorate (3). The coordination in 3 can be described as pseudo-octahedral, with two relatively tightly-bound 3-[(thiomethyl)methyl]pyrazole ligands occupying the equatorial plane, forming a [CuN(2)S(2)](2+) unit with the S donors mutually trans to each other. The axial positions are each filled by a weakly bound perchlorate counterion, one oxygen of which forms a hydrogen bond with the pyrazole N-H moiety on an adjacent [CuN(2)S(2)](2+) unit.
