Abstract
In this work, polypropylene (PP) was foamed via rotational molding using a chemical blowing agent (CBA) based on azodicarbonamide over a range of concentration (0 to 0.5% wt.). The samples were then analyzed in terms of morphological, thermal and mechanical properties. The morphological analysis showed a continuous increase in the average cell size and cell density with increasing CBA content. Increasing the CBA content also led to lower foam density and thermal conductivity. Similarly, all the mechanical properties (tension, flexion and impact) were found to decrease with increasing CBA content. Finally, the efficiency of the rotomolding process was assessed by producing neat PP samples via compression molding. The results showed negligible differences between the rotomolded and compression molded properties at low deformation and rate of deformation indicating that optimal rotomolding conditions were selected.

Abstract
Polypropylene (PP) is an outstanding material for polymeric foams due to its favorable mechanical and chemical properties. However, its low melt strength and fast crystallization result in unfavorable foaming properties. Long-chain branching of PP is regarded as a game changer in foaming due to the introduction of strain hardening, which stabilizes the foam morphology. In this work, a thorough characterization with respect to rheology and crystallization characteristics of a linear PP, a PP/PE-block co-polymer, and a long-chain branched PP are conducted. Using these results, the processing window in foam-extrusion trials with CO2 and finally the foam properties are explained. Although only LCB-PP exhibits strain hardening, it neither provide the broadest foaming window nor the best foam quality. Therefore, multiwave experiments were conducted to study the gelation due to crystallization and its influence on foaming. Here, linear PP exhibited a gel-like behavior over a broad time frame, whereas the other two froze quickly. Thus, apart from strain hardening, the crystallization behavior/crystallization kinetics is of utmost importance for foaming in terms of a broad processing window, low-density, and good morphology. Therefore, the question arises, whether strain hardening is really essential for low density foams with a good cellular morphology.

The process has different applications in fields such as medical, automotive and aerospace. To expand the use of polymers to meet growing consumer demands for increased functionality, advanced injection moulding processes have been developed that modifies the polymer to create microcellular structures. Through the creation of microcellular materials, additional functionality can be gained through polymer component weight and processing energy reduction. Microcellular injection moulding shows high potential in creating innovation green manufacturing platforms. This review article aims to present the significant developments that have been achieved in different aspects of microcellular injection moulding. Aspects covered include core-back, gas counter pressure, variable thermal tool moulding and other advanced technologies. The resulting characteristics of creating microcellular injection moulding components through both plasticising agents and nucleating agents are presented. In addition, the article highlights potential areas for research exploitation. Abstract
A variant of the Sanchez-Lacombe equation of state is applied to several polymers, blowing agents, and saturated mixtures of interest to the polymer foaming industry. These are low-density polyethylene-carbon dioxide and polylactide-carbon dioxide saturated mixtures as well as polystyrene-carbon dioxide-dimethyl ether and polystyrene-carbon dioxide-nitrogen ternary saturated mixtures. Good agreement is achieved between theoretically predicted and experimentally determined solubilities, both for binary and ternary mixtures. Acceptable agreement with swelling ratios is found with no free parameters. Up-to-date pure component Sanchez-Lacombe characteristic parameters are provided for carbon dioxide, dimethyl ether, low-density polyethylene, nitrogen, polylactide, linear and branched polypropylene, and polystyrene. Pure fluid low-density polyethylene and nitrogen parameters exhibit more moderate success while still providing acceptable quantitative estimations. Mixture estimations are found to have more moderate success where pure components are not as well represented. The Sanchez-Lacombe equation of state is found to correctly predict the anomalous reversal of solubility temperature dependence for low critical point fluids through the observation of this behaviour in polystyrene nitrogen mixtures.

Abstract
Silicone rubber foams were successfully generated by environmentally friendly blowing agent, supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2), in this research. Firstly, the effect of the saturation time on the cellular structure was investigated. The diffusion of scCO2 into the rubber matrix would be enhanced thus decreasing the viscosity as increasing the saturation time. It would further promote the cell growth, which has a close connection with the cellular structure. After that, the effect of pre-curing time on cellular morphology of silicone rubber foams was further researched in detail. When increasing pre-curing time in the short time range, cell nucleation would be affected more than cell growth in the foaming process. If continuously increasing pre-curing time, both cell nucleation and growth would be restricted thus resulting in the formation of silicone rubber foams with small cell density and small cell size. This investigation not only provided a green way to produce silicone rubber foams, but also guided us to control cellular morphology via the saturation time and pre-curing time.

Abstract
We investigated the interaction of blended carbon dioxide (CO2) and dimethyl ether (DME) with polystyrene (PS) through volume swelling and interfacial tension. The experiments were carried out over a temperature range of 423-483 K, and the pressure was varied from 6.89 MPa to 20.68 MPa. With an incremental concentration of DME in the blend, the volume swelling increased while the interfacial tension between the PS/blend gas mixture and the blend gas decreased. The validity of the Simha-Somcynsky (SS) equation of state (EOS) for the ternary system was established by comparing experimentally measured volume swelling to that obtained via SS-EOS.

Abstract
Abstract
The Pressure-Volume-Temperature (PVT) property of polymer nanocomposite (PNC)/gas solutions is an important fundamental property in the foaming of PNC. However, accurate data have not yet been reported. We examined the PVT behaviors of polypropylene (PP) and PP/organoclay polymer nanocomposite (PP-PNC) by monitoring the swelling changes of the polymer melt in supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO2). A model was adopted that describes the PVT behaviors of PP-PNC with and without dissolved gas. Based on the model, a PNC consists of two sections: a hard section (a nanoparticle surrounded by solidified polymer) and a soft section (neat polymer). It was observed that an infusion of nanoparticles decreased the swelling. It seems that the hard section had a minimal free volume in which to dissolve the blowing agents, and that the number of hard sections increased with the infusion of nanoparticles. As a result, the total gas absorption capacity of the system decreased, and consequently, the swelling also decreased.
