Abstract
Catalytic cyclization of enynes is an efficient approach for the preparation of cyclic compounds, and a large variety of four- to six-membered rings could be synthesized using this method. However, it has been rarely employed for the construction of medium- and large-sized rings. Herein, we describe a copper-catalyzed cycloisomerization of ene-ynamides through a [2 + 2] cyclization/electrocyclic ring opening cascade, leading to the atom-economical assembly of indole-fused medium- and large-sized rings in moderate to excellent yields under mild reaction conditions. Importantly, the synthetic utility of this reaction was demonstrated by the convenient synthesis of iprindole.

Abstract
The field of gold catalysis has been in constant expansion during the last twenty years. Based on the precept of π-activation of unsaturated simple substrates, several new rearrangements have been discovered, implying aryl, alkyne, alkene or keto derivatives as key partners. In this personal account, the main contributions in the field of gold catalysis from our group will be highlighted, emphasizing the recent reports, starting from 1,6- and 1,5-enynes and then moving to keto-ynes derivatives. The gold-catalyzed reactions will be presented starting from classical skeletal rearrangements (cycloisomerization) and then domino processes. In each part, the presentation of asymmetric versions will be highlighted.

Abstract
Malonate enol ethers are afforded in one step by condensation of cyclic ketones with α-diazomalonates under [CpRu(CH3CN)3][BArF] catalysis. The dual reactivity of these 2-vinyloxymalonates can be used to expand the classical range of cyclizations derived from carbonyl ylide intermediates.

Abstract
Five pairs of novel chiral alcohol functionalised gold(i) and gold(iii) NHC complexes derived from chiral amino alcohols, were synthesized and characterised (NMR, IR, HRMS). Single crystal X-ray diffraction data of gold(i) and gold(iii) complexes are reported and discussed. The chiral imidazolium preligands were readily synthesized via the oxalamides, subsequent reduction and final orthoformate condensation. An improved method was used for generation of gold(i) NHC complexes (up to 92%) and further oxidation afforded the corresponding gold(iii) NHC complexes (up to 99%). All the Au(i) and Au(iii) NHC complexes proved far more catalytically active in a 1,6-enyne alkoxycyclization test reaction than our previously tested N,N- and P,N-ligated Au(iii) complexes. Comparative gold(i) and gold(iii) catalytic studies demonstrated different catalytic ability, depending on the NHC ligand flexibility and bulkiness. Excellent yields (92-99%) of target alkoxycyclization product were obtained with both gold(i) and gold(iii) complexes with the bulky N1-Mes-N2-ethanol based NHC ligand.

Abstract
Three- and four-membered rings, widespread motifs in nature and medicinal chemistry, have fascinated chemists ever since their discovery. However, due to energetic considerations, small rings are often difficult to assemble. In this regard, homogeneous gold catalysis has emerged as a powerful tool to construct these highly strained carbocycles. This review aims to provide a comprehensive summary of all the major advances and discoveries made in the gold-catalyzed synthesis of cyclopropanes, cyclopropenes, cyclobutanes, cyclobutenes, and their corresponding heterocyclic or heterosubstituted analogs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A wide variety of biological activities are exhibited by N, O and S containing heterocycles and recently, many reports appeared for the synthesis of these heterocycles. The synthesis of heterocycles with the help of metal and non-metal catalyst has become a highly rewarding and important method in organic synthesis. This review article concentrated on the synthesis of S-heterocylces in the presence of metal and non-metal catalyst. The synthesis of five-membered S-heterocycles is described here. OBJECTIVE There is a need for the development of rapid, efficient and versatile strategy for the synthesis of heterocyclic rings. Metal, non-metal and organocatalysis involving methods have gained prominence because traditional conditions have disadvantages such as long reaction times, harsh conditions and limited substrate scope. CONCLUSION The metal-, non-metal-, and organocatalyst assisted organic synthesis is a highly dynamic research field. For ßthe chemoselective and efficient synthesis of heterocyclic molecules, this protocol has emerged as a powerful route. Various methodologies in the past few years have been pointed out to pursue more sustainable, efficient and environmentally benign procedures and products. Among these processes, the development of new protocols (catalysis), which avoided the use of toxic reagents, are the focus of intense research.

Abstract
The field of heterocyclic chemistry has been revolutionized using transition
metal catalysts in recent years. Various research groups have focused on the development
of general protocols to achieve better functional group compatibilities and greater levels of
molecular complexity under mild reaction conditions, using easily available starting substrates.
The methodologies used earlier for their synthesis were less approachable to organic
chemists because of their high cost, highly specified instrumentation and inconvenient
methods. For both stereoselective and regioselective synthesis of five-membered nitrogen-
containing heterocycles, cyclic reactions that are Ru-catalyzed have known to be
very efficient. These methods have many advantages as compared to alternative pathways
involved in the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds. In this review article, we concentrated
on the synthesis of nitrogen-containing five-membered heterocycles in the presence of a ruthenium catalyst.
This review mostly covers the literature published during the period from 1977-2019.

Abstract
The first intramolecular enantioselective cyclopropanation of indenes and trisubstituted alkenes was accomplished by using new chiral phosphine X5 derived gold(I) complexes. This reaction is a straightforward, efficient method for constructing [5-3-6] fused-ring compounds with two vicinal all-carbon quaternary stereogenic centers, a core structure shared by numerous pharmacological products, and bioactive compounds. The salient features of this transformation include high enantioselectivity (up to >98% ee), excellent yield (>97%), and nice functional group tolerance.

Abstract
An unprecedented Pt-catalysed cyclisation of N-tethered 1,5-bisallenes in the presence of oxygen nucleophiles is reported, where formation of 6- or 7-membered rings is driven by the choice of nucleophile and the mechanism dictated by the nucleophile and the electronic properties of the bisallene. The reaction in the presence of alcohols gives preferentially vinyltetrahydropyridines with an extra alkoxy group and Pt-H as the active species in the catalytic cycle, while formation of di- and tetrahydroazepines with an extra hydroxyl group is favoured when water is used as nucleophile, via nucleophilic attack/carbocyclization as the favoured pathway. The products obtained are frequently found in the core of natural products with important biological activities, so understanding this complex mechanistic behaviour and exploiting this new methodology will have a big impact in organic synthesis and organometallic chemistry.

Abstract
The oxidation of the tribenzylphosphine derivative of the doubly cylcometallated platinum(ii) complex of diphenylpyridine, 1, with PhICl2 led, as a first step, to the formation of a highly electrophilic metal centre which attacked the benzyl phosphine to give a triply cyclometallated species as the arenium ion. The highly acidic arenium ion protonated unreacted starting 1, a reaction that could be supressed by the addition of water, and gave the neutral species 2(t). Octahedral complex 2(t) was induced to reductively couple, with two five-membered rings coupling to give square planar complex 5 containing a nine-membered ring. The crystal structure of 5 showed the nine-membered ring to span trans across the square planar metal accompanied by considerable distortion: the P-Pt-N bond angle is 155.48(5)°. Oxidation of 5 with PhICl2 resulted in the addition of two chlorides and a change of the nine-membered ring ligand coordination to cis at an octahedral centre, still with considerable distortions: the P-Pt-N bond angle in the crystal structure of 6 is 99.46(5)°. Treatment of 2(t) with AgBF4 also induced a coupling to give a nine-membered ring, and the fluxional three coordinate complex 7. A mono-methylated version of 1, Me-1, was prepared and similar reactions were observed. The presence of the methyl group allowed us to observe selectivity in the coupling reaction to give the nine-membered ring, with two products (a-Me-7 and b-Me7) being initially formed in the ratio 7 : 1. The concentrations of two products changed with time giving a final ratio of 1 : 8 at room temperature (half-life 48 hours), the equilibration being made possible by a reversible C-C bond forming reaction. Reaction of complexes 7 with CO or hydrogen left the nine-membered ring intact, though oxidative degradation resulted in decomplexation of the phosphine donor, accompanied by formation of a P[double bond, length as m-dash]O group.

Abstract
The bicyclo[4.3.0]nonane scaffold, commonly known as a hydrindane, is a common structural motif found in many terpenoid structures and one that remains a challenge for synthetic chemists to elaborate with appropriate regio- and stereo-selectivity. Over the course of the study of terpene natural products, the elaboration of the hydrindane structure has seen progress on the utilization of both old and newer methods to achieve the desired outcomes. This review seeks to serve as a general overview of these methods, and detail specific examples.

Abstract
A synthetic method that relies on Au(I)-catalyzed tandem 1,3-acyloxy migration/double cyclopropanation of 1-ene-4,9-diyne and 1-ene-4,10-diyne esters to construct the respective architecturally challenging tetracyclodecene and tetracycloundecene derivatives is described. Achieved under mild reaction conditions, the transformation was shown to be robust with a wide variety of substitution patterns tolerated to give the two members of the carbocyclic family in good to excellent yields and as a single regio- and diastereomer.

Abstract
The ruthenium-catalyzed 1,6-enyne cyclization in the presence of bulky substituted terminal alkyne proceeds smoothly at room temperature to afford highly substituted five-membered cyclic compounds featuring a 1,5-enyne motif. Deuterium-labeling experiments showed that the key ruthenacyclopentene intermediate undergoes cleavage of metal-carbon bonds through the metal-assisted σ-bond metathesis reaction, thus leading to the formation of C(sp(2))-H and C(sp(3))-C(sp) bonds.

Abstract
An unprecedented coordinatively unsaturated chiral indenylruthenium complex 12 was designed and synthesized to provide additional coordination sites for Ru-catalyzed asymmetric transformations. In an attempt to catalyze an asymmetric enyne cycloisomerization reaction of 1,6-enyne, significant amounts of hydroxycyclization were observed. Up to 84:16 er of the hydroxycyclization product was obtained in 2-MeTHF. This chiral indenylruthenium catalyst could also perform an asymmetric redox isomerization/C-H insertion reaction in up to 90:10 er.

Cycloisomerizations of 1,n-enynes catalyzed by gold(I) proceed via electrophilic species with a highly distorted cyclopropyl gold(I) carbene-like structure, which can react with different nucleophiles to form a wide variety of products by attack at the cyclopropane or the carbene carbons. Particularly important are reactions in which the gold(I) carbene reacts with alkenes to form cyclopropanes either intra- or intermolecularly. In the absence of nucleophiles, 1,n-enynes lead to a variety of cycloisomerized products including those resulting from skeletal rearrangements. Reactions proceeding through cyclopropyl gold(I) carbene-like intermediates are ideally suited for the bioinspired synthesis of terpenoid natural products by the selective activation of the alkyne in highly functionalized enynes or polyenynes.

Abstract
A series of platinum(II)-monophosphole complexes has been synthesized and used in enyne cycloisomerisations in order to study the effect of the ligand on the catalytic activity and selectivity. Reactions were performed on various N- or C-tethered 1,6-enynes and in the absence or in the presence of nucleophiles. For the most efficient cationic Pt(II)-complexes, it was also evidenced that the counterion and/or the solvent could have an influence on both the efficiency and the selectivity in the competition between the 5-exo-dig and the 6-endo-dig processes.
