Abstract
Hydrogen bonding-enabled highly regio- and stereo-selective hydrocarboxylation of alkynes has been successfully developed to afford 3-hydroxy-2(E)-alkenoates with up to 97% yield.
Here we present an example of utilizing hydroxy groups for regioselectivity control in the addition reaction of alkynes—a highly efficient Pd-catalyzed syn-hydrocarboxylation of readily available 2-alkynylic alcohols with CO in the presence of alcohols with an unprecedented regioselectivity affording 3-hydroxy-2(E)-alkenoates. The role of the hydroxy group has been carefully studied. The synthetic potential of the products has also been demonstrated.

Abstract
The NHBoc group affords ortho selective C-H borylations in arenes and alkenes. Experimental and computational studies support an outer sphere mechanism where the N-H proton hydrogen bonds to a boryl ligand oxygen. The regioselectivities are unique and complement those of directed ortho metalations.

Abstract
Umpolung in the allylation reaction is discussed with examples drawn from transition-metal-catalyzed allylic substitution (with the allylic unit acting as an electrophile) and Lewis base-catalyzed allylation of aldehydes with allyltrichlorosilane (with the allyl acting as a nucleophile). Iridium-catalyzed electrophilic allylation of O-nucleophiles has been employed in our new approach to C-nucleoside analogs, where the C-O bond (rather than C-C) was constructed stereospecifically. Variation of the absolute configuration in the starting segments allowed the synthesis of all four combinations of D/L-α/β-ribosides. In the nucleophilic allylation of aldehydes, chiral pyridine-type N-oxide catalysts are presented, in particular QUINOX and METHOX, and the intriguing behavior of QUINOX is discussed. Here, the π-π interactions between the substrate aldehyde and the catalyst are suggested to rationalize the experimental observations. Good correlation between the calculated energies for the transition states and the experimentally observed enantioselectivities has been obtained.

Abstract
The S(N)2' reaction of 6-vinyl-5,6-dihydro-4H-[1,3]oxazines with Grignard reagents in the presence of CuCN was studied, and high trans selectivity for the formation of double bond was observed with a variety of RMgX. The S(N)2' reaction, coupled with regioselective asymmetric aminohydroxylation reaction, provided a highly efficient route for the asymmetric synthesis of D-threo-N-acetylsphingosine.

Abstract
Palladium-catalyzed coupling reactions of functionalized allylboronic acids with iodobenzenes were achieved under standard Suzuki-Miyaura coupling conditions. The coupling reactions afforded selectively the branched allylic products in high to excellent yields. In contrast to palladium-catalyzed nucleophilic substitution reactions proceeding via (eta3-allyl)palladium intermediates, this process does not require directing groups in the allyl moiety to achieve substitution at the congested allylic terminus. The regioselectivity of the process was largely unaffected by the substituent effects of the iodobenzenes and the allylic substrates.

Abstract
[reaction: see text] The Pd-catalyzed carbocyclization of ketoamides was investigated and found to be highly dependent on the phosphine ligand as well as the presence of coordinating counterions. Nitrogen heterocycles were formed without erosion of the stereochemical integrity. The utility of the lactam products was demonstrated by the formal synthesis of (+)-alpha-allokainic acid.
