Abstract
The construction of chiral motifs containing nonadjacent stereocenters in an enantio- and diastereoselective manner has long been a challenging task in synthetic chemistry, especially with respect to their stereodivergent synthesis. Herein, we describe a protocol that enables the enantio- and diastereoselective construction of 1,5/1,7-nonadjacent tetrasubstituted stereocenters through a Pd/Cu-cocatalyzed Heck cascade reaction. Notably, a C=C bond relay strategy involving the shift of the π-allyl palladium intermediate was successfully applied in the asymmetric construction of 1,7-nonadjacent stereocenters. The current method allows for the efficient preparation of chiral molecules bearing two privileged scaffolds, oxindoles and non-natural α-amino acids, with good functional group tolerance. The full complement of the four stereoisomers of products bearing 1,5/1,7-nonadjacent stereocenters could be readily accessed by a simple combination of two chiral metal catalysts with different enantiomers.

Abstract
Chiral N-alkoxy amines are increasingly vital substrates in bioscience. However, asymmetric synthetic strategies for these compounds remain scarce. Catalytic kinetic resolution represents an attractive approach to prepare structurally diverse enantiopure N-alkoxy amines, which has remained elusive due to the notably reduced nucleophilicity of the nitrogen atom together with the low bond dissociation energies of labile NO-C and N-O bonds. We here report a general kinetic resolution of N-alkoxy amines through chemo- and enantioselective oxygenation. The mild and green titanium-catalyzed approach features broad substrate scope (55 examples), noteworthy functional group compatibility, high catalyst turnover number (up to 5200), excellent selectivity factor (s > 150), and scalability.

Abstract
As an underrepresented functional group in bioorganic and medicinal chemistry, the hydroxylamine unit has historically received little attention from the synthetic community. Recent developments, however, suggest that hydroxylamines may have broader applications such that a review covering recent developments in the synthesis of this functional group is timely. With this in mind, this review primarily covers developments in the past 15 years in the preparation of di- and trisubstituted hydroxylamines. The mechanism of the reactions and key features and shortcomings are discussed throughout the review.

Abstract
Shibasaki's rare earth alkali metal BINOLate (REMB) framework has provided chemists with a general catalyst platform to access a range of enantioenriched small molecules from the single, commercially available pro-ligand (R)- or (S)-BINOL. A defining feature of these heterobimetallic frameworks is the high level of catalyst tunability, achieved through the simple modulation of the central rare-earth cation and peripheral alkali metal cations. While this family of multifunctional catalysts displays impressive generality and catalytic capability, detailed mechanistic understanding of these complex, multimetallic systems was lacking prior to our investigations. This backdrop served as initial inspiration for our investigations of this privileged class of complexes over the past decade, which have led to new and exciting advances in catalysis and beyond.In this Account, we describe our investigations using Shibasaki's framework focusing on the central metal-ion, the BINOLate ligands, and the secondary sphere cations. Our studies began with an investigation into the Lewis acidity of the complexes, where we demonstrated that Lewis bases readily coordinate to REMB frameworks when lithium occupies the secondary coordination sphere. This observation was contrasted by the complexes containing sodium or potassium in the secondary coordination sphere, as the rare earth cation is evidently less accessible for substrate binding. Our efforts in understanding the ligand exchange of the complexes enabled the discovery that associative processes dominate the mechanism of ligand exchange and LA/LA (Lewis acid/Lewis acid) and LA/BB (Lewis acid/Brønsted base) catalysis by the REMB frameworks. Replacing metal cations in the secondary coordination sphere with the N,N,N',N'-tetramethylguanidinium cation delivered an effective precatalyst that is air and water stable over the course of 6 months.To expand the reactivity of the REMB, we investigated the ability of UIV cations to occupy the primary coordination sphere and ZnEt+ and Cu(DBU)+ cations to occupy the secondary coordination sphere. Synthesizing the REMB complexes using the thiol congener monothioBINOL provided an unusual anionic REMB framework, driven by the oxophilicity of the lithium cations. Using the REMB as a platform for investigating the CeIII/CeIV redox couple, we demonstrated that, while oxidative cerium functionalization is observed in the case of lithium containing REMBs, salt elimination is observed in the sodium, potassium, and cesium containing REMBs. Furthermore, we found that while the rate of heterogeneous electron transfer for CeIII was ks(CsI) > ks(KI) > ks(NaI) > ks(LiI), the rates of reaction with the oxidant trityl chloride trended in the opposite order with kobs(LiI) ≫ kobs(NaI) > kobs(KI) > kobs(CsI). We attribute this to the ability to form inner-sphere complexes with the oxidant, rather than differences in redox potential or reorganization energies.Applying our knowledge in ligand exchange and redox behavior of Ce containing REMB complexes, we detailed the mechanism for oxidation of the heterochiral cerium REMB frameworks, reiterating the importance of the formation of inner-sphere complexes in the oxidation chemistry of cerium. There are many different avenues for both organic and inorganic investigation of Shibasaki's REMB framework, and our works have demonstrated the richness of the structural chemistry and properties of this framework that inform mechanism and properties of these privileged catalysts.

Abstract
β-Amino esters are obtained with high levels of enantioselectivity via the conjugate addition of cyclic amines to unactivated α,β-unsaturated esters. A related strategy enables the kinetic resolution of racemic cyclic 2-arylamines, using benzyl acrylate as the resolving agent. Reactions are facilitated by an unprecedented selenourea-thiourea organocatalyst. As elucidated by DFT calculations and 13C kinetic isotope effect studies, the rate-limiting and enantiodetermining step of the reaction is the protonation of a zwitterionic intermediate by the catalyst. This represents a rare case in which a thiourea compound functions as an asymmetric Brønsted acid catalyst.

Abstract
The metal-catalyzed asymmetric conjugate addition (ACA) reaction has emerged as a general and powerful approach for the construction of optically active compounds and is among the most significant and useful reactions in synthetic organic chemistry. In recent years, great progress has been made in this area with the use of various chiral metal complexes based on different chiral ligands. This review provides comprehensive and critical information on the enantioselective 1,4-conjugate addition of nonorganometallic (soft) nucleophiles and their importance in synthetic applications. The literature is covered from the last 10 years, and a number of examples from before 2007 are included as background information. The review is divided into multiple parts according to the type of nucleophile involved in the reaction (such as C-, B-, O-, N-, S-, P-, and Si-centered nucleophiles) and metal catalyst systems used.

Abstract
The use of CeCl3·7H2O as an efficient and eco-friendly promoter for the convenient synthesis of methoximes derived from aromatic aldehydes and ketones, is reported. The transformations entail the use of equimolar amounts of MeONH2·HCl and NaOAc in EtOH at 50°C, and no special precautions are needed with regard to the presence of oxygen. The scope and limitations of the transformation were studied and a reaction mechanism was proposed.

Abstract
The direct enantioselective chiral calcium(ii)·phosphate complex (Ca[CPA]2)-catalyzed conjugate addition of unprotected alkyl amines to maleimides was developed.
The direct enantioselective chiral calcium(ii)·phosphate complex (Ca[CPA]2)-catalyzed conjugate addition of unprotected alkyl amines to maleimides was developed. This mild catalytic system represents a significant advance towards the general convergent asymmetric amination of α,β-unsaturated electrophiles, providing medicinally relevant chiral aminosuccinimide products in high yields and enantioselectivities. Furthermore, the catalyst can be reused directly from a previously chromatographed reaction and still maintain both high yield and selectivity.

Abstract
2,6-Disubstituted dihydropyrans are a common feature in many bioactive polyketides, including the anticancer marine polyketide laulimalide. While much of the uncharacterized biosynthetic pathway for laulimalide can be confidently postulated, the biosynthetic origins of the trans 2,6-disubstituted dihydropyran cannot. We hypothesize that a transannular oxa-conjugate addition in a macrocyclic laulimalide precursor could be the origin of the 2,6-dihydropyran. To test this hypothesis, we constructed a model containing the key functional groups for oxa-conjugate addition-mediated dihydropyran formation. Under acid-mediated conditions, the model under went regiospecific oxa-conjugate addition producing a stable trans oxetane as the only regioisomer. The desired, more stable dihydropyran was not detected. This unprecedented regiospecificity is unexpected due to the ring strain of the oxetane and the anticipated facile ring opening retro-oxa-conjugate addition. The oxetane is stable to acid and basic conditions, as are a number of literature acyclic oxetanes that could undergo similar retro-oxa-conjugate addition. While the source of the oxetane kinetic stability is yet to be characterized, it may enable general oxetane construction via oxa-conjugate addition. The more stable dihydropyran regioisomer could not be generated due to poor geometrical orbital alignment and hard-soft incompatibility between the hard oxygen nucleophile and the soft activated polyenoate electrophile. These factors disfavor the breaking of conjugation by oxa-conjugate addition. Based on these results we propose that dihydropyran formation does not occur on completed polyketide macrocycles as we had proposed but rather during polyketide biosynthesis on the growing polyketide chain.

Abstract
Highly efficient stereoselective 1,4-addition of racemic alpha-fluoro-alpha-nitro(phenylsulfonyl)methane (FNSM) as a fluoromethyl pronucleophile to alpha,beta-unsaturated ketones using a wide range of chiral organobifunctional catalysts under moderate conditions in the absence of an additional base has been achieved. A series of catalysts was screened for the enantioselective addition of FNSM to chalcones and the catalysts CN I, CD I, QN I-IV, and QD I were found to enable this reaction, successfully providing exclusive 1,4-addition products stereoselectively in high yields (conversion, diastereomeric ratio, and enantiomeric excess). Studies involving a model reaction and systematic analysis of the absolute configuration support the suggested mechanism.

Abstract
Consecutive cyclization of allylaminoalkenes by tandem aminolithiation-carbolithiation proceeded smoothly by using a lithium amide as a lithiating agent as well as protonating agent to give bicyclic amines, octahydroindolizine and hexahydro-1 H-pyrrolizine, in reasonably high yield and diastereoselectivity.
