Abstract
Compounds of the 5 amino (ATCC) and 5 nitro 1,2,3,4 tetracyanocyclopentadienide (NTCC) ligand with iron(II) and iron(III), silver(I) and potassium(I) were prepared and characterized by electrochemical methods using EPR, cyclic voltammetry and Mößbauer spectroscopy as well as UV-Vis spectroscopy. The investigation sheds light on the free radical activity in non- as well as transition metal compounds, and shows signs of photoinduced electron transfer in transition metal compounds of the ligands. We characterized silver(I) and potassium compounds of the compounds via X-ray diffraction, with one of the structures exhibiting a porous coordination polymer.

Abstract
We report the synthesis of polysubstituted 1,1,2,3-tetraarylazulen-6-ones through the ring opening and scaffold rearrangement of spirocycles in the presence of ferric chloride under ambient conditions. Control experiments shown that this reaction may proceeded through a radical cation mechanism and futher theoretical calculation revealed that the electronic distribution of the radical cation intermediate dominated this oxidative rearrangement instead of dehydrogenation. It is noteworthy that some interesting photophysical properties, including aggregation-induced emission, halochromism, and two-photon fluorescence, were discovered for the azulen-6-one 2a, making them to work as promising functional materials in optical-related fields.

Abstract
Single crystal X-ray (sc XRD) analyses of three symmetrically substituted cyclopentadienyl radicals (1, 2, 5) containing sterically demanding aryl groups showed that they crystallize as discrete valence tautomers (Jahn-Teller distortion) in the solid state with the unpaired electron either located in the b1 orbital (type I, state 2B1), resulting in a localized radical with two adjacent double bonds, or the a2 orbital (type II, state 2A2), leading to an allyl-type radical. Their properties in solution were examined by EPR spectroscopy as well as cyclovoltammetry and UV/vis spectroscopy including two additional cyclopentadienyl radicals (1-5). The electronic nature of 1-5 was further investigated by quantum chemical calculations.

Abstract
UB3LYP/6-31G(d) calculations have been performed in order to predict the ground states, 2A2 or 2B1, of cyclopentadienyl radicals that are mono- and bis-annelated with a wide variety of substituents. Unlike the case in the annelated cyclooctatetraenes, studied by Baldridge and Siegel, our calculations find that the sizes of the coefficients of the degenerate MOs at the annelated carbons are more important than the symmetries of the substituent's frontier orbitals in determining the mode of bond localization in the annelated cyclopentadienyl radicals.

Abstract
Many kinds of radicals are stable enough to isolate, handle, and store without any special precautions. The diversity in molecular architectures of these stable radicals is sufficiently large that the common factors governing radical stability/persistence, geometric and electronic structure, association/dimerization preferences, and reactivity have generally not been well articulated or appreciated. This review provides a survey of the major classes of stable or persistent organic/organomain group radicals with a view to presenting a unified description of the interdependencies between radical molecular structure and properties.
