Abstract
Two compounds containing a Sn(II) atom supported by a bidentate biscarborane ligand have been synthesized via salt metathesis. The synthetic procedures for (bc)Sn·THF (bc = 1,1' (ortho-carborane) (1) and K2[(bc)Sn]2 (2) involved the reaction of K2[bc] with SnCl2 in either a THF solution (1) or in a benzene/dichloromethane solvent mixture (2). Using the same solvent conditions as those used for 2 but using a shorter reaction time gave a dibiscarboranyl ethene (3). The products were characterized by 1H, 13C, 11B, 119Sn NMR, UV-vis, and IR spectroscopy, and by X-ray crystallography. The diffraction data for 1 and 2 show that the Sn atom has a trigonal pyramid environment and is constrained by the bc ligand in a planar five-membered C4Sn heterocycle. The 119Sn NMR spectrum of 1 displays a triplet of triplets pattern signal, which is unexpected given the absence of a Sn-H signal in the 1H NMR, IR spectrum, and X-ray crystallographic data. However, a comparison with other organotin compounds featuring a Sn atom bonded to carboranes reveal similar multiplets in their 119Sn NMR spectra, likely arising from long-range nuclear spin-spin coupling between the carboranyl 11B and 119Sn nuclei. Compound 3 displays structural and spectroscopic characteristics typical of conjugated alkenes.

Abstract
Two new main group element carboranylamidinates were synthesized using a bottom-up approach starting from o-carborane, ortho-C2B10H12 (1, = 1,2-dicarba-closo-dodecaborane). The first divalent germanium carboranylamidinate, GeCl[HLCy] (3, [HLCy]− = [o-C2B10H10C(NCy)(NHCy)]−, Cy = cyclohexyl), was synthesized by treatment of GeCl2(dioxane) with 1 equiv. of in situ-prepared Li[HLCy] (2a) in THF and isolated in 47% yield. In a similar manner, the first antimony(III) carboranylamidinate, SbCl2[HLiPr] (4, [HLiPr]− = [o-C2B10H10C(NiPr)(NHiPr)]−), was obtained from a reaction of SbCl3 with 1 equiv. of Li[HLiPr] in THF (56% yield). The title compounds were fully characterized by analytical and spectroscopic methods as well as single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Both compounds 3 and 4 are monomeric species in the solid state, and the molecular geometries are governed by a stereo-active lone pair at the metal centers.

Abstract
Reaction of 2 equiv. of the lithium carboranylamidinate Li[o-(C2H10B10)C(NCy)(NHCy)] with SnCl2 in THF afforded the stannylene compound bis(N,N'-dicyclohexylamidinatocarboranate)tin(II), SnII[o-(C2H10B10)C(NCy)(NHCy)]2 (1). A similar reaction of SnCl4 with 2 equiv. of Li[o-(C2H10B10)C(N i Pr)(NH i Pr)] unexpectedly afforded the known solvated penta-chlorido-stannate(IV) salt [Li(THF)4][SnCl5(THF)] as the main reaction product. Small amounts of the new chlorido-tin(IV) bis-(carboranylamidinate) bis(N,N'-diiso-propylamidinatocarboranate)chloridotin(IV), SnIVCl[o-(C2H10B10)C(N i Pr)(NH i Pr)][o-(C2H10B10)C(N i Pr)2] (2), were isolated as a by-product. Single-crystal X-ray structure analysis revealed a κC,κN-chelating coordination of the carboranylamidinate ligands in both 1 and 2. The Sn atom in 1 adopts a pseudo-trigonal-bipyramidal coordination under participation of a stereoactive lone pair. In 2, a trigonal-bipyramidal coordination of Sn is completed by a chlorido ligand.

Abstract
The reactivity of lutetacyclopentadiene towards N,N'-diphenylcarbodiimide (DPC) was systematically investigated to efficiently construct three types of new N-containing fused cyclic complexes. The outcome of these reactions significantly depended on the the metal center, the concentration of LiCl, the number of equivalents of DPC, and the solvent. Thus, two unexpected reaction modes of amidinate were discovered for the first time, which were ascribed to an unusual κ(1) coordination mode of amidinate driven by a rigid seven-membered ring. These results are in striking contrast with the previously well-investigated zirconacyclopentadiene, which reacts with DPC to give azazirconacyclopentene and alkyne through β,β' CC bond cleavage. The difference in reactivity between lutetacyclopentadiene and zirconacyclopentadiene can be attributed to the highly ionic character of the LuC(sp(2) ) bonds. DFT calculations agreed well with the experimental results.

Abstract
Reactions of lithio-o-carborane with isocyanates under various conditions were studied, and the structural features of the resulting carboranylamides are described. The reactions of o-carborane (o-C2B10H12), n-BuLi (two equiv.) and two equiv. of (substituted) phenylisocyanate, pentylisocyanate and p-ethylphenylthioisocyanate in diethyl ether, respectively, led, after workup, to the corresponding mono-substituted carboranylamide 2a-g and carboranylthioamide 5 in low to moderate yields, and only with RNCO (R = Ph, m-MeOC6H4, pentyl) could disubstituted products 3a-c be isolated. The reaction with phenylisocyanate afforded the mono-amide and di-amide products in a ratio of approximately 1 : 2, whereas in the other two reactions the ratios are approximately 4 : 1 and 3 : 2, respectively. In tetrahydrofuran all the reactions attempted with RNCO (R = Ph, p-IC6H4, m-NCC6H4 and pentyl) gave more monoamide products than those in diethyl ether. With phenylisocyanate no diamide product was isolated and with pentylisocyanate the ratio between monoamide and diamide is approximately 3.5 : 1. The new carboranylamides were characterized by means of elemental analyses, IR and NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry, as well as single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses of 2a-f, 3a and 5.

Abstract
Mono- and dianionic carboranylamidinates are readily available in one-pot reactions directly from o-carborane (1). In situ-monolithiation of 1 followed by treatment with N,N'-diisopropylcarbodiimide, (i)PrN=C=N(i)Pr, or N,N'-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide, CyN=C=NCy, provided the lithium carboranylamidinates (o-C2B10H10C(NH(i)Pr)(=N(i)Pr)-κ(2)C,N)Li(DME) (2a) and (o-C2B10H10C(NH(i)Cy)(=N(i)Cy)-κ(2)C,N)Li(THF)2 (2b). Controlled hydrolysis of 2a,b afforded the free carboranylamidines o-C2B10H11C(NH(i)R)(=N(i)R) (3a: R = (i)Pr, 3b: R = Cy). The first dimetalated carboranylamidinates, o-C2B10H10C(N(i)Pr)(=N(i)Pr)Li2(DME)2 (4a) (DME = 1,2-dimethoxyethane) and o-C2B10H10C(N(i)Pr)(=N(i)Pr)Li2(THF)4 (4b), were prepared in high yield (83% yield) directly from 1 using a simple one-pot synthetic protocol. Treatment of 4b with 2 equiv. of Me3SiCl afforded the disilylated derivative o-C2B10H10-κ(2)C,N-[C(N(i)PrSiMe3)(=N(i)Pr)]SiMe3 (5). Dianionic 4b also served as an excellent precursor for novel inorganic heterocycles incorporating the closo-1,2-C2B10H10 cage, including the unsymmetrical distannene [o-C2B10H10C(N(i)Pr)(=N(i)Pr)-κ(2)C,N]Sn=Sn[((i)PrN)2C(n)Bu]2 (6) and the azaphosphole derivative [o-C2B10H10C(N(i)Pr)(=N(i)Pr)-κ(2)C,N]PPh (7). Surprisingly, it was found that the synthesis of new inorganic ring systems from dianionic carboranylamidinates can also be achieved by employing only 1 equiv. of n-butyllithium in the generation of the anionic carboranylamidinate intermediates. Using this straightforward one-pot synthetic protocol, the Group 14 metallacycles [o-C2B10H10C(NCy)(=NCy)-κ(2)C,N]SiR2 (R = Cl (8), Me (9), Ph (10)) and [o-C2B10H10C(NCy)([=NCy)-κ(2)C,N]GeCl2 (11) have become accessible. The same synthetic strategy could be successfully adapted to prepare the corresponding Group 4 metallocene derivatives Cp2Ti[o-C2B10H10C(NCy)(=NCy)-κ(2)C,N] (12) and Cp2Zr[o-C2B10H10C(NCy)(=NCy)-κ(2)C,N] (13). The molecular structures of 2b, 3b, 4b, 5, 6, 7, 10, 12, and 13 were confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction.

Abstract
200 years of research with carbon-rich molecules have shaped the development of modern chemistry. Research pertaining to the chemistry of boron-rich species has historically trailed behind its more distinguished neighbor (carbon) in the periodic table. Notably, a potentially rich and, in many cases, unmatched field of coordination chemistry using boronrich clusters remains fundamentally underdeveloped. Our work has been devoted to examining several basic concepts related to the functionalization of icosahedral boron-rich clusters and their use as ligands, aimed at designing fundamentally new hybrid molecular motifs and materials. Particularly interesting are icosahedral carboranes, which can be regarded as 3D analogs of benzene. These species comprise a class of boron-rich clusters that were discovered in the 1950s during the "space race" while researchers were developing energetic materials for rocket fuels. Ultimately, the unique chemical and physical properties of carborane species, such as rigidity, indefinite stability to air and moisture, and 3D aromaticity, may allow one to access a set of properties not normally available in carbon-based chemistry. While technically these species are considered as inorganic clusters, the chemical properties they possess make these boron-rich species suitable for replacing and/or altering structural and functional features of the organic and organometallic molecules-a phenomenon best described as "organomimetic". Aside from purely fundamental features associated with the organomimetic chemistry of icosahedral carboranes, their use can also provide new avenues in the development of systems relevant to solving current problems associated with energy production, storage, and conversion.

Abstract
This review describes how the incorporation of dicarba-closo-dodecarboranes into half-sandwich complexes of ruthenium, osmium, rhodium and iridium might lead to the development of a new class of compounds with applications in medicine. Such a combination not only has unexplored potential in traditional areas such as Boron Neutron Capture Therapy agents, but also as pharmacophores for the targeting of biologically important proteins and the development of targeted drugs. The synthetic pathways used for the syntheses of dicarba-closo-dodecarboranes-containing half-sandwich complexes of ruthenium, osmium, rhodium and iridium are also reviewed. Complexes with a wide variety of geometries and characteristics can be prepared. Examples of addition reactions on the metal centre, B-H activation, transmetalation reactions and/or direct formation of metal-metal bonds are discussed (103 references).
