Abstract
Phenothiazine (PTZ) derivatives have been acknowledged as versatile compounds with significant implications across various areas of medicine, particularly, in cancer research. The cytotoxic effects of synthesized compounds on both normal and cancerous cells, along with their oxidant-antioxidant properties, are pivotal factors in cancer treatment strategies. In the current study, eight new PTZ derivatives were synthesized and the compounds' cytotoxic activities were assessed by 3-[4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2,5 diphenyl tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay while the oxidant-antioxidant properties were evaluated by oxidative stress index (OSI) calculation in SH-SY5Y (a human neuroblastoma cell line), HT-29 (a human colorectal adenocarcinoma cell line), and PCS-201-012 (a human primary dermal fibroblast cell line) cells. Consequently, the half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) values of compound 3a were determined to be 218.72, 202.85, and 227.86 μM while the IC50 values of compound 3b were defined to be 227.42, 199.27, and 250.11 μM in PCS-201-012, HT-29, and SH-SY5Y cells, respectively. Additionally, it was determined that the synthesized compounds demonstrated the lowest OSI in PCS-201-012 cells as compared to the other cell lines.

Abstract
Nickel-catalyzed transannulation reactions triggered by the extrusion of small gaseous molecules have emerged as a powerful strategy for the efficient construction of heterocyclic compounds. However, their use in asymmetric synthesis remains challenging because of the difficulty in controlling stereo- and regioselectivity. Herein, we report the first nickel-catalyzed asymmetric synthesis of N-N atropisomers by the denitrogenative transannulation of benzotriazones with alkynes. A broad range of N-N atropisomers was obtained with excellent regio- and enantioselectivity under mild conditions. Moreover, density functional theory (DFT) calculations provided insights into the nickel-catalyzed reaction mechanism and enantioselectivity control.

Abstract
Due to the ubiquity of carbonyl compounds and the abundance of nickel on the earth, nickel-catalyzed decarbonylation has garnered increasing attention in recent years. This type of reaction has seen significant developments in various aspects; however, certain challenges concerning reactivity, selectivity, and transformation efficiency remain pressing and demand urgent resolution. In this study, we employed DFT calculations to investigate the mechanism of nickel-catalyzed decarbonylation reactions involving lactones, as well as the effects of phosphine ligands. Mechanically, Ni(0) first activates the C(acyl)-O bond of the lactone, followed by a decarbonylation step, and ultimately results in reductive elimination under carbonyl coordination to yield the product. Through a comprehensive examination of the electronic and steric effects of the phosphine ligands, we deduced that the electronic effect of the ligand plays a dominant role in the decarbonylation reaction. By enhancing the electron-withdrawing ability of the ligand, the energy barrier of the entire reaction can be significantly reduced. The obtained insights should be valuable for understanding the detailed mechanism and the role of phosphine ligands in nickel catalysis. Moreover, they offer crucial clues for the rational design of more efficient catalytic reactions.

Abstract
Ni-catalyzed C-H functionalization reactions are becoming efficient routes to access a variety of functionalized arenes, yet the mechanisms of these catalytic C-C coupling reactions are not well understood. Here, we report the catalytic and stoichiometric arylation reactions of a nickel(II) metallacycle. Treatment of this species with silver(I)-aryl complexes results in facile arylation, consistent with a redox transmetalation step. Additionally, treatment with electrophilic coupling partners generates C-C and C-S bonds. We anticipate that this redox transmetalation step may be relevant to other coupling reactions that employ silver salts as additives.

Abstract
AbstractPhthalimide derivatives are prevalent in a wide array of biologically important molecules, including drugs, fungicides, and anticancer molecules. Thus, catalytic methods that directly edit the phthalimide moiety, in particular, decarbonylation and derivatization, could be strategically valuable for the modification of existing phthalimide molecular scaffolds. In recent years, considerable efforts have been devoted to emulating the transition-metal-catalyzed phthalimide decarbonylative reaction. A set of elegant strategies, including decarbonylative addition reactions with alkynes, alkenes, and benzynes, decarbonylative polymerization, alkylation, arylation, and protodecarbonylation, have been demonstrated. This review aims to highlight these advances and discusses the mechanism issues, to further expand application and promote developments in this field.1 Introduction2 Decarbonylative Addition Reaction with Alkynes3 Decarbonylative Addition Reaction with Alkenes4 Decarbonylative Addition Reaction with Benzyne5 Decarbonylative Polymerization6 Decarbonylative Alkylation7 Decarbonylative Arylation8 Protodecarbonylation9 Conclusion and Outlook

Abstract
Amides are important functional synthons that have been widely used in the construction of peptides, natural products, and drugs. The C-N bond cleavage provides the direct method for amide conversion. However, amides, especially secondary amides, tend to be chemically inert due to the resonance of the amide bond. Here, we describe an efficient Pd-catalyzed transamidation and decarbonylation of multiamide structure molecules through C-N bond cleavage with excellent chemoselectivity. The transamidation of secondary amides and the decarbonylation of phthalimide provide meaningful tools for the modification of amino acid derivatives. Moreover, further transformations of azidation and C(sp3)-H monoarylation emphasized the potential utility of this selective C-N bond cleavage method.

Abstract
Photoexcitation is one of the acknowledged methods to activate Ni-based cross-coupling reactions, but factors that govern the photoactivity of organonickel complexes have not yet been established. Here we report the excited-state cross-coupling activities of Ni(ii) metallacycle compounds, which display ∼104 times enhancement for the C-S bond-forming reductive elimination reaction upon Ni-centered ligand-field transitions. The effects of excitation energy and ancillary ligands on photoactivity have been investigated with 17 different nickelacycle species in combination with four corresponding acyclic complexes. Spectroscopic and computational electronic structural characterizations reveal that, regardless of coordinated species, d-d transitions can induce Ni-C bond homolysis, and that the reactivity of the resulting Ni(i) species determines the products of the overall reaction. The photoactivity mechanism established in this study provides general insights into the excited-state chemistry of organonickel(ii) complexes.

Abstract
In recent years, decarbonylative annulation reactions have emerged as one of the most efficient routes to construct a variety of important carbocyclic and heterocyclic scaffolds. The main advantages of this type of reaction are, first, the carbonyl compounds are used as the starting materials which are abundant in nature and second, the major by-product of this reaction is carbon monoxide. In the last two decades, various intramolecular and intermolecular decarbonylative annulation reactions have been performed using carbonyl compounds and alkenes/alkynes/arenes/isocyanates etc. as the annulation partners. These reactions are typically performed either in the presence of or in the absence of a metal catalyst. However, these reactions are still in their infancy as a very little progress has been achieved in these reactions. Through this review article, it is attempted to highlight the recent developments on various decarbonylative annulation reactions which ultimately lead to the formation of important structural moieties.

Abstract
A rhodium-catalyzed decarbonylation/alkyne insertion cascade of phthalimides has been established. The reaction can be carried out in an operationally simple manner and provides expedient access to a series of isoquinolones in moderate to good yields. This reaction proceeded through a sequential decarbonylation/alkyne insertion/intramolecular annulation procedure and featured good functional group tolerance, ample substrate scope, and the construction of C-C and C-N bonds in one pot.

Abstract
An unprecedented ring expansion reaction of indolin-2-ones with alkynyl ketones under transition-metal-free conditions has been developed. Base-promoted selective cleavage of a C-C σ bond of the amide is the key in this process, which provides a straightforward and efficient way to synthesize seven-membered-ring benzolactams or chromone derivatives. The significant advantages of this method include readily accessible starting materials, wide scope and functional group tolerance, and high atom economy.

Abstract
The first examples of C-C bond cleavage reactions of internal propargyl alcohols to give vinylidene complexes are described. Treatment of [Re(dppm)3 ]I with RC≡CC(OH)R'R'' (R=aryl, alkyl; C(OH)R'R''=C(OH)Ph2, C(OH)Me2 , C(OH)HPh, C(OH)H2 ) produced the vinylidene complexes ReI(=C=CHR)(dppm)2 with the elimination of C(O)R'R''. Computational studies support that the reactions proceed through a β-alkynyl elimination of alkoxide intermediates Re{OC(R')(R'')C≡CR}(dppm)2 .

Abstract
A Ni-Al bimetallic catalyzed enantioselective C-H exo-selective cyclization of imidazoles with alkenes has been developed. A series of bi- or polycyclic imidazoles with β-stereocenter were obtained in up to 98% yield and >99% ee. The bifunctional SPO ligand-promoted bimetallic catalysis proved to be critical to this challenging stereocontrol.

Abstract
Amides are common functional groups that have been studied for more than a century. They are the key building blocks of proteins and are present in a broad range of other natural and synthetic compounds. Amides are known to be poor electrophiles, which is typically attributed to the resonance stability of the amide bond. Although amides can readily be cleaved by enzymes such as proteases, it is difficult to selectively break the carbon-nitrogen bond of an amide using synthetic chemistry. Here we demonstrate that amide carbon-nitrogen bonds can be activated and cleaved using nickel catalysts. We use this methodology to convert amides to esters, which is a challenging and underdeveloped transformation. The reaction methodology proceeds under exceptionally mild reaction conditions, and avoids the use of a large excess of an alcohol nucleophile. Density functional theory calculations provide insight into the thermodynamics and catalytic cycle of the amide-to-ester transformation. Our results provide a way to harness amide functional groups as synthetic building blocks and are expected to lead to the further use of amides in the construction of carbon-heteroatom or carbon-carbon bonds using non-precious-metal catalysis.
