Abstract
The [(p-cymene)RuCl(κ2C,N-{CNHC-NH})]+X- (CNHC = thiazol-2-ylidene) complexes with a bidentate ligand (2: X = Cl and 3: X = PF6) were prepared by a one-pot reaction of vitamin B1 (VB1, 1), Ag2O and [(p-cymene)RuCl2]2. In the complexes, VB1 coordinates through C2 and the exocyclic N in the imino form with the κ2-(C,N) coordination mode. The complexes 2 and 3 are stable in the solid state, but slowly release p-cymene in solution. Furthermore, upon heating in polar solvents, 2 or 3 can be converted by ligand exchange reactions to produce [(L)3RuCl(κ2C,N-{CNHC-NH})]+PF6- (4: L = py).Robustness was improved remarkably for 4. The complex 4 is stable in the solid state and in solution. The complexes 2-4 have been identified by 1H and 13C{1H} 2D NMR spectroscopy and 2 and 4 were studied by X-ray crystallography. In an effort to develop a recyclable catalyst in water, 2-4 were evaluated for TH of ketones and aldehydes with an azeotropic mixture of HCOOH/Et3N in water. The complexes 3 and 4 exhibited very good catalytic activity and 4 could be reused nine times without significant loss of activity, giving a high turnover frequency (TOF50%(h-1) = 1286).

Abstract
Hydride complexes IrHCl(2)(PiPr(3))P(2) (1) and IrHCl(2)P(3) (2) [P = P(OEt)(3) and PPh(OEt)(2)] were prepared by allowing IrHCl(2)(PiPr(3))(2) to react with phosphite in refluxing benzene or toluene. Treatment of IrHCl(2)P(3), first with HBF(4).Et(2)O and then with an excess of ArCH(2)N(3), afforded benzyl azide complexes [IrCl(2)(eta(1)-N(3)CH(2)Ar)P(3)]BPh(4) (3, 4) [Ar = C(6)H(5), 4-CH(3)C(6)H(4); P = P(OEt)(3), PPh(OEt)(2)]. Azide complexes reacted in CH(2)Cl(2) solution, leading to the imine derivative [IrCl(2){eta(1)-NH=C(H)C(6)H(5)}P(3)]BPh(4) (5). The complexes were characterized by spectroscopy and X-ray crystal structure determination of [IrCl(2)(eta(1)-N(3)CH(2)C(6)H(5)){P(OEt)(3)}(3)]BPh(4) (3a) and [IrCl(2){eta(1)-NH=C(H)C(6)H(5)}{P(OEt)(3)}(3)]BPh(4) (5a). Both solid-state structure and (15)N NMR data indicate that the azide is coordinated through the substituted Ngamma [Ir]-Ngamma(CH(2)Ar)NNalpha nitrogen atom.

Abstract
The (benzophenone imine)platinum(II) compounds trans-[PtCl2(Ph2C=NH)(RR'SO)] [R, R'=Me, Me (2); n-Pr, n-Pr (3); (CH2)4 (4); Me, Ph (5); Me, p-MeC6H4 (6)] were prepared by the reaction of Ph2C=NH with K[PtCl3(RR'SO)], obtained in situ from K2[PtCl4] and the corresponding sulfoxide, giving 2-6 as well as cis-[PtCl2(Ph2C=NH)2] (1) as a minor product. The complexes were characterized by 1H, 13C, and 195Pt NMR and IR spectroscopy, electrospray ionization mass spectrometry, and C, H, and N elemental analysis. The X-ray crystallography of 1 enables confirmation of the cis configuration of the complex, while in 2 and 4.1/2CHCl3, the imine and sulfoxide ligands are mutually trans. The solid-state structure of 4.1/2CHCl3 consists of two dimeric Pt moieties representing a rather weak Pt...Pt interaction. The dimeric architecture of 4.1/2CHCl3 is enhanced by the hydrogen bonding between imine H atoms and O atoms. The orthometalation of 1 and 2-6 proceeds both in the solid phase and in a toluene suspension, leading to the formation of [PtCl{Ph(C6H4)C=NH}(Ph2C=NH)] (7) and [PtCl{Ph(C6H4)C=NH}(RR'SO)] (8-12), respectively, isolated in nearly quantitative yields. Complexes 8-12 are emissive at room temperature both in solution (lambdaemmax approximately 535 nm) and in the solid state (lambdaemmax 560-610 nm), with excited-state lifetimes of ca. 300-600 ns, representing a new family of PtII-based luminescent complexes. Compounds 8 and 10 have been characterized by X-ray analysis, confirming the square-planar coordination geometry of the metal center with the almost planar platinacycles. In 8, the asymmetric unit contains two independent Pt molecules, while in 10, it includes four Pt molecules linked by the intermolecular hydrogen-bonding network between the NH group and Cl atoms.

Abstract
Coordination of N,N' bidentate ligands aryl-pyridin-2-ylmethyl-amine ArNH-CH2-2-C5H4N 1 (Ar = 4-CH3-C6H4, 1a; 4-CH3O-C6H4, 1b; 2,6-(CH3)2-C6H3, 1c; 4-CF3-C6H4, 1d) to the moieties [Ru(bipy)2]2+, [Ru(eta5-C5H5)L]+ (L = CH3CN, CO), or [Ru(eta6-arene)Cl]2+ (arene = benzene, p-cymene) occurs under diastereoselective or diastereospecific conditions. Detailed stereochemical analysis of the new complexes is included. The coordination of these secondary amine ligands activates their oxidation to imines by molecular oxygen in a base-catalyzed reaction and hydrogen peroxide was detected as byproduct. The amine-to-imine oxidation was also observed under the experimental conditions of cyclic voltammetry measurements. Deprotonation of the coordinated amine ligands afforded isolatable amido complexes only for the ligand (1-methyl-1-pyridin-2-yl-ethyl)-p-tolyl-amine, 1e, which doesn't contain hydrogen atoms in a beta position relative to the N-H bond. The structures of [Ru(2,2'-bipyridine)2(1b)](PF6)2, 2b; [Ru(2,2'-bipyridine)(2)(1c)](PF6)2, 2c; trans-[RuCl2(COD)(1a)], 3; and [RuCl2(eta6-C6H6)(1a)]PF6, 4a, have been confirmed by X-ray diffraction studies.

Abstract
Reaction of dioxoruthenium(VI) porphyrins [Ru(VI)(Por)O2] with arylimine HN=CPh2 in dichloromethane afforded bis(methyleneamido)ruthenium(IV) porphyrins [Ru(IV)(Por)(N=CPh2)2] for Por = 4-Cl-TPP and TMP; (methyleneamido)hydroxoruthenium(IV) porphyrins [Ru(IV)(Por)(N=CPh2)(OH)] for Por = TPP and TTP; and bis(arylimine)ruthenium(II) porphyrins [Ru(II)(Por)(HN=CPh2)2] for Por = 3,5-Cl2TPP and 3,5-(CF3)2TPP. In dichloromethane solution exposed to air, complex [Ru(II)(3,5-Cl2TPP)(HN=CPh2)2] underwent oxidative deprotonation to form [Ru(IV)(3,5-Cl2TPP)(N=CPh2)2]. The new ruthenium porphyrins were identified by 1H NMR, UV-vis, IR, and mass spectroscopy, along with elemental analysis. X-ray crystal structure determinations of [Ru(IV)(4-Cl-TPP)(N=CPh2)2], [Ru(IV)(TPP)(N=CPh2)(OH)], and [Ru(II)(3,5-(CF3)2TPP)(HN=CPh2)2] revealed the Ru-N(methyleneamido) or Ru-N(arylimine) distances of 1.897(5) A (average), 1.808(4) A, and 2.044(2) A (average), respectively.

Abstract
Triflate abstraction from the complex [Re(OTf)(CO)(3)(bipy)] (1) using the salt NaBAr'(4) (Ar' = 3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenyl) in dichloromethane solution in the presence of L = PPh(3), NCMe, NCPh, imines, ketones, Et(2)O, THF, MeOH, and MeI affords cationic complexes [Re(L)(CO)(3)(bipy)](+) as their BAr'(4)(-) salts. The new complexes have been characterized spectroscopically and, for [Re(eta(1)-O=C(Me)R)(CO)(3)(bipy)]BAr'(4) (R = CH(3), 6a; R = Ph, 6b), and [Re(THF)(CO)(3)(bipy)]BAr'(4) (9), also by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Compared with conventional methodologies, the route reported here allows the coordination of a broader range of weakly coordinating ligands and requires considerably milder conditions. On the other hand, the reactions of lithium acetylides with [Re(THF)(CO)(3)(bipy)]BAr'(4) (9) can be used for the high-yield syntheses of rhenium alkynyls [Re(Ctbd1;CR)(CO)(3)(bipy)] (R = Ph, 12; R = SiMe(3), 13). Complex 9 was found to catalyze the aziridination of benzylideneaniline with ethyl diazoacetate.

Abstract
It has been suggested that the reactivity of pi-donating ligands bound to late-transition-metal complexes is heightened due to high d-electron counts. Herein, the synthesis and characterization of the Ru(II) amine and Ru(II) amido complexes [TpRuL(2)(NH(2)Ph)][OTf] (OTf = trifluoromethanesulfonate) and TpRuL(2)(NHPh) (L = PMe(3) or P(OMe)(3)) are presented, including solid-state X-ray diffraction studies of [TpRu(PMe(3))(2)(NH(2)Ph)][OTf], [TpRu[P(OMe)(3)](2)(NH(2)Ph)][OTf], and TpRu[P(OMe)(3)](2)(NHPh). The pK(a)'s of the Ru(II) amine complexes and the previously reported [TpRu(CO)(PPh(3))(NH(2)Ph)](+) have been estimated to be comparable to that of malononitrile in methylene chloride. In addition, the impact of the filled dpi-manifold (i.e., Ru(II) and d(6) octahedral systems) on barriers to rotation of the Ru-NHPh moieties has been studied. For TpRu(PMe(3))(2)(NHPh) and TpRu[P(OMe)(3)](2)(NHPh), evidence for hindered rotation about the amido nitrogen and phenyl ipso carbon has been observed, and the relative N-C and Ru-N bond rotational barriers for the series of three amido complexes are discussed in terms of the pi-conflict.

Abstract
Treatment of the nitrile complexes cis-[ReCl(NCR)(dppe)(2)] (R = aryl; dppe = Ph(2)PCH(2)CH(2)PPh(2)) with [Et(2)OH][BF(4)] or SiMe(3)CF(3)SO(3) in CH(2)Cl(2) led to the formation of the methyleneamide (alkylideneamide or azavinylidene) compounds cis-[ReCl[NC(E)C(6)H(4)X-4](dppe)(2)]Y [E = H; X = OMe (1b), Me (1c), H (1d), F (1e), or Cl (1f), Y = BF(4); E = SiMe(3), X = Me (1c'), Y = CF(3)SO(3)] and trans-[ReCl[NC(H)C(6)H(4)X-4](dppe)(2)][BF(4)] [X = NEt(2) (2a), OMe (2b), H (2d), F (2e), or Cl (2f)]. They were characterized by multinuclear NMR spectrometry and X-ray crystallography (2e) which shows that the methyleneamide ligand exhibits linear (three-electron donor) geometry and behaves as a strong pi-electron acceptor. The complex (31)P[(1)H] and (1)H [NC(H)C(6)H(4)X-4] NMR patterns for the cis isomers were analyzed as ABCD and ABCDX (X part) spin systems, respectively. Complexes 1 and 2 undergo deprotonation by base to form the trans isomers of the corresponding nitrile complexes, trans-[ReCl(NCC(6)H(4)X-4)(dppe)(2)] [X = NEt(2) (3a), OMe (3b), H (3d), F (3e), or Cl (3f)] whose spectroscopic data are also presented and which on protonation give the corresponding trans isomers of the methyleneamide complexes (2). Reactions of cis-[ReCl(NCR)(dppe)(2)] with [Et(3)O][PF(6)] resulted in their oxidation and isomerization to afford trans-[ReCl(NCC(6)H(4)X-4)(dppe)(2)][PF(6)] [X = Me (4c), H (4d), or Cl (4f)].

Abstract
The reaction of TpRu(CO)(PPh(3))(OTf) (2) with LiNHPh affords the amido complex TpRu(CO)(PPh(3))(NHPh) (3) in 88% isolated yield. The amido complex 3 has been characterized by (1)H NMR, (13)C NMR, (31)P NMR, elemental analysis, cyclic voltammetry, and a solid-state X-ray diffraction study. Variable temperature NMR studies have revealed a rotational barrier around the ruthenium-amido nitrogen bond of 3 of 12 kcal/mol (transformation of the major isomer to the minor isomer). The solid-state structure of 3 discloses a pyramidal amido moiety. Heating benzene solutions of the amido complex 3 and 1,4-cyclohexadiene or 9,10-dihydroanthracene results in no observable reaction. Reaction of complex 2 with excess aniline yields [TpRu(CO)(PPh(3))(NH(2)Ph)][OTf] (4).

Abstract
Bis(N-ethylideneethanamine)ruthenium(ii) porphyrins, [Ru11(Por)(N(Et)=CHMe)2] (Por=TTP, 4-Cl-TPP), were prepared by the reaction of dioxoruthenium(VI) porphyrins with triethylamine in approximately 85% yields. The reaction between dioxoruthenium(VI) porphyrins and benzophenone imine afforded bis(diphenylmethyleneamido)ruthenium(IV) porphyrins, [Ru(IV)(Por)(N=CPh2)2] (Por=TTP, 3,4,5-MeO-TPP), in approximately 65% yields. These new classes of metalloporphyrins were characterized by 1H NMR, UV/Vis, and IR spectroscopy as well as by mass spectrometry and elemental analysis. The X-ray crystallographic structures of [Ru(II)(TTP)(N(Et)=CHMe)2] and [Ru(IV)(3,4,5-MeO-TPP)(N=CPh2)2] revealed an axial Ru-N bond length of 2.115(6) A for the imine complex and 1.896(8) A for the methyleneamido complex. Each of the N=CPh2 axial groups in [Ru(IV)(3,4,5-MeO-TPP)(N=CPh2)2] adopts a linear coordination mode with a corresponding Ru-N-C angle of 175.9(9)degrees. Spectral and structural studies revealed essentially single bonding character for the bis(imine) complexes but a multiple bonding character for the bis(methyleneamido) complexes with respect to their axial Ru-N bonds.
