Abstract
The pure rotational spectra of the 1:1 ethanol - 1,4-dioxane complex and its OD mono-deuterated species have been measured using pulsed-jet Fourier transform microwave spectroscopy. Conformational predictions for the plausible isomers of ethanol - 1,4-dioxane have been carried out considering the spatial orientation of gauche/trans ethanol with respect to the chair/boat and twisted conformations of 1,4-dioxane. Using Helium for the supersonic expansion, the microwave spectrum has been observed for the most stable structure. In the observed isomer, the two subunits are linked together by an OH⋯O hydrogen bond with gauche ethanol acting as proton donor to dioxane in the chair conformation. The non-covalent interactions have been characterized using different computational approaches. A small inverse Ubbelohde effect was observed after H → D isotopic substitution in the OH⋯O hydrogen bond.

Abstract
The conformations of 1,7DSU and its stepwise solvation by up to 5 water molecules were explored using supersonic-jet Fourier transform microwave spectroscopy with the supplement of theoretical calculations. Experimentally, the rotational spectra of the most stable structures of the monomer, monohydrate and dihydrate were observed and assigned. The characteristics of the stability and intermolecular interaction topologies of the 1,7DSU monomer and its hydrated clusters were obtained by CREST conformational sampling followed by B3LYP-D3(BJ)/def2-TZVP geometrical optimizations and MP2/aug-cc-pVTZ single-point energy calculations. The first water molecule links to the 1,7DSU monomer through an OwH⋯O hydrogen bond. The water molecules tend to aggregate with each other and form cyclic structures for the n = 2-5 clusters. The interactions between water and the 1,7DSU monomer as well as those between water and water were revealed. The analyses of non-covalent interactions and the natural bond orbital suggest that the OwH⋯O1,7DSU, OwH⋯Ow, and CH⋯Ow hydrogen bonds play a prominent role in structural stability.

Abstract
p-Dioxane is non-polar, hence its rotational constants cannot be determined by microwave rotational coherence spectroscopy (RCS). We perform high-resolution gas-phase rotational spectroscopy of para-dioxane-h8 and -d8 using femtosecond time-resolved Raman RCS in a gas cell at T = 293 K and in a pulsed supersonic jet at T∼130 K. The inertial tensor of p-dioxane-h8 is strongly asymmetric, leading to a large number of asymmetry transients in its RCS spectrum. In contrast, the d8-isotopomer is a near-oblate symmetric top that exhibits a much more regular RCS spectrum with few asymmetry transients. Fitting the fs Raman RCS transients of p-dioxane-h8 to an asymmetric-top model yields the ground-state rotational constants A0 = 5084.4(5) MHz, B0 = 4684(1) MHz, C0 = 2744.7(8) MHz, and (A0 + B0)/2 = 4884.5(7) MHz (±1σ). The analogous values for p-dioxane-d8 are A0 = 4083(2) MHz, B0 = 3925(4) MHz, C0 = 2347.1(6) MHz, and (A0 + B0)/2 = 4002.4(6) MHz. We determine the molecular structure with a semi-experimental approach involving the highly correlated coupled-cluster singles, doubles and iterated triples method and the cc-pCVXZ basis set series from double- to quadruple-zeta (X = D, T, Q). Combining the calculated vibrationally averaged rotational constants A0calc(X),B0calc(X),C0calc(X) for increasing basis-set size X with non-linear extrapolation to the experimental constants A0exp,B0exp,C0exp allows to determine the equilibrium ground state structure of p-dioxane. For instance, the equilibrium C-C and C-O bond lengths are re(CC) = 1.5135(3) Å and re(CO) = 1.4168(4) Å, and the four axial C-H bond lengths are 0.008 Å longer than the four equatorial ones. The latter is ascribed to the trans-effect (anomeric effect), i.e., the partial delocalization of the electron lone-pairs on the O atoms that are oriented trans, relative to the axial CH bonds.

Abstract
The rotational spectra of five isotopologues of the 1:1 complex trifluoroanisole-water have been investigated with pulsed jet Fourier transform microwave spectroscopy. The triple fluorination of the methyl group greatly affects the features of the rotational spectrum of the complex with water, with respect to those of the related complex anisole-water. The shape, the internal dynamics, and the isotopic effects turned out to be quite different from those of the anisole-water adduct ( Giuliano , B. M. ; Caminati , W. Angew. Chem., Int. Ed. 2005 , 44 , 603 - 606 ). However, as in anisole-water, water has the double role as a proton donor and proton acceptor, and it is linked to trifluoroanisole through two, O-H···O and C-H···O hydrogen bonds.

Abstract
The rotational spectra of several isotopologues of the 1:1 complex between the inhaled anesthetic isoflurane and water have been recorded and analyzed by using Fourier transform microwave spectroscopy. The rotational spectrum showed a single rotamer, corresponding to the configuration in which the most stable conformer of isolated isoflurane is linked to the water molecule through an almost linear C-H⋅⋅⋅O weak hydrogen bond. All transitions display a hyperfine structure due to the (35)Cl (or (37)Cl) nuclear quadrupole effects.

Abstract
The rotational spectrum of the molecular complex diacetyl-water has been measured by pulsed jet Fourier transform microwave (FTMW) spectroscopy. The water molecule acts as an electrofore and induces a dipole moment when combined with nonpolar diacetyl. Only one conformer has been observed, corresponding to the global minimum. Its shape is unambiguously established: the water moiety is linked asymmetrically to the organic molecule; it behaves as a proton donor to one of its oxygen atoms and interferes with the internal rotation of adjacent methyl group through a C-H...O interaction. Each rotational transition appears as a quintuplet, due to the internal rotation of the two methyl groups, which are nonequivalent in the adduct. From the analysis of the observed splittings, the V(3) barriers to the internal rotation of the two methyl groups have been determined to be 3.81(2) and 4.11(2) kJ/mol, respectively.

Abstract
The millimeter-wave absorption and Fourier transform microwave spectra of five isotopologues of the 1:1 adduct of dimethoxymethane-water have been measured in supersonic expansions. Each rotational transition appears as a quintuplet, due to the internal rotation of the two methyl groups, which are nonequivalent in the adduct. The water moiety, linked asymmetrically to dimethoxymethane, behaves as a proton donor to one of its oxygen atoms and interferes with the internal rotation of the farther methyl group through a C...HO interaction. From the analysis of the observed splittings, the V(3) barriers to the internal rotation of the two methyl groups have been determined to be 6.83(8) and 6.19(8) kJ mol(-1). The hydrogen bond structural parameters have been determined, the O...HO and C...HO distances being 1.93(1) and 2.78(4) A, respectively.

Abstract
The molecular beam Fourier transform microwave spectrum of 1,4-dioxane-trifluoromethane has been assigned and measured. The two subunits form a cage stabilized by one C-H...O and two C-H...F weak hydrogen bonds. The C-H...O link involves the axial lone pair of one of the two equivalent ring oxygens, while the two C-H...F bridges connect trifluoromethane to the two axial hydrogens in positions 3 and 5. The dissociation energy has been estimated from the D(J) centrifugal distortion parameter to be approximately 6.8 kJ/mol.

Abstract
A computational study ab initio of the conformational dependence of proton affinities of 2-methoxyethoxide (MEO), dimethoxyethane (DME), and 1,4-dioxane has been carried out at the MP2/6-31+G level of theory. The results were discussed in comparison with reference systems, from simple alkoxides and ethers to anomeric moieties, in open, cyclic, and bicyclic molecules. The COCCOC species are stronger bases than the COCOC (anomeric) ones and approach regular ethers in their strength. The gauche forms in MEO and DME are altogether stronger bases than the anti forms, and anti (equatorial) protonation is preferred over gauche (axial), unless ditopic protonation is possible, like in aga-DME or cis-tetraoxadecalin. The gauche effect plays a significant role in the formation, relative stability, and reactivity of the charged species.
