Abstract
A series of titanate cisoid bis(chalcogenidos) (Ch = Te, Se, and S) complexes supported by the β-diketiminate ligand BDI- = [ArNC(CH3)]2CH (Ar = 2,6-iPr2C6H3) are readily assembled via treatment of the TiIII precursor (BDI)Ti(CH2SiMe3)2 with 2.5 equiv of elemental "Ch" source and 1 equiv of reductant in the presence of crown-ether. In the absence of the electride, Te or S addition to (BDI)Ti(CH2SiMe3)2 results instead in the isolation of a mononuclear tellurido-tellurolate [(BDI)Ti(=Te)(TeCH2SiMe3)] and the bridging sulfido-thiolate complex [(BDI)Ti(SCH2SiMe3)(μ-S)]2, respectively. In the case of Se, the rare selenido-perselenoate complex [(BDI)Ti(=Se)(η2-SeSeCH2SiMe3)] was isolated. In addition to crystallographically and spectroscopically characterizing all of the complexes, we demonstrate the latter species to be likely intermediates in the formation of [(BDI)Ti(Ch)2]- via the addition of electride.

Abstract
Treatment of the imido complexes [MCl3(NR)py2] (R = (t)Bu, 2,6-Me2C6H3; M = Nb 1, 3; Ta 2, 4) (Xyl = 2,6-Me2C6H3) with (Me3Si)2S in a 1:1 ratio afforded the new cube-type sulfide clusters [MCl(NR)py(μ3-S)]4 (R = (t)Bu, 2,6-Me2C6H3; M = Nb 5, 7; Ta 6, 8) with loss of Me3SiCl. Reactions of 5 and 6 with cyclopentadienyllithium in 1:4 ratio resulted in the rupture of the coordinative M-S bonds and the replacement of a pyridine molecule and a chlorine atom by an η(5)-cyclopentadienyl group in each metal center, affording the compounds [M(η(5)-C5H5)(N(t)Bu)(μ-S)]4 (M = Nb 9, Ta 10). These processes may develop through formation of the complexes [M4(η(5)-C5H5)2(μ-Cl)(N(t)Bu)4py2(μ3-S)2(μ-S)2](C5H5) (M = Nb 11, Ta 12), also obtained by reaction of 5 and 6 with cyclopentadienyllithium in 1:3 ratio. As further evidence, 11 and 12 led to complexes 9 and 10 by treatment with one more equivalent of the lithium reagent. The structural study of these metal sulfide clusters has been also performed by X-ray crystallography.

Abstract
A reaction of Cp(2)Ti(SH)(2) with n-BuSnCl(OH)(2) gave two unusual ionic compounds; the cation in both is a hexatitanium cluster, [Cp(6)Ti(6)O(8)](2+), while the anion is a six membered cyclic (chair form) [n-Bu(3)Sn(3)Cl(SH)(3)(S)(3)](-) in one and acyclic [n-Bu(3)Sn(3)Cl(3)(SH)(3)(S)(2)](-) in the other. Besides X-ray crystallography, theoretical studies have also been completed to understand the structures of these complexes.

Abstract
Core expansion reactions of di- and tetrairidium complexes [Cp*Ir(mu(2)-NCN-N,N)](2) (1; Cp* = eta(5)-C(5)Me(5)), [Cp*Ir(mu(3)-NCN-N,N,N)](4) (2), and phosphine derivatives of 1 have been investigated, and it has been revealed that cyanamido ligands in these complexes can change their coordination modes flexibly on reactions with a second transition metal complex. Treatment of diiridium complex 1 with [Cp*IrCl(2)](2) gives the tetrairidium complex [(Cp*Ir)(2)(mu(3)-NCN-N,N,N')(2)(IrCp*Cl(2))(2)] (6) with mu(3)-kappaN,kappaN,kappaN' cyanoimido(2-) ligands. On the other hand, the reaction of 1 with [PdCl(eta(3)-C(3)H(5))](2) affords the NCN-bridged Ir(2)Pd(4) hexanuclear complex [(Cp*IrCl)(2)(mu(4)-NCN-N,N,N',N')(2){Pd(2)(mu-Cl)(eta(3)-C(3)H(5))(2)}(2)] (7) and Ir(4)Pd(4) octanuclear complex [(Cp*Ir)(4)(mu(4)-NCN-N,N,N,N')(4){PdCl(eta(3)-C(3)H(5))}(4)] (8). The NCN-bridges in 7 provide the first example of the crystallographically determined mu(4)-kappaN,kappaN,kappaN',kappaN' carbodiimido(2-) ligand. Complex 8 with mu(4)-kappaN,kappaN,kappaN,kappaN' cyanoimido(2-) ligands can also be synthesized selectively by the reaction of the parent cubane complex 2 with [PdCl(eta(3)-C(3)H(5))](2). Diphosphine derivative of 1, [{Cp*Ir(mu(2)-NCN)}(2)(mu-dppm)] (4; dppm = Ph(2)PCH(2)PPh(2)), behaves differently on reactions with [PdCl(eta(3)-C(3)H(5))](2) and [MCl(cod)](2) (cod = cycloocta-1,5-diene) to form the NCN-bridged Ir(2)M(2) (M = Pd, Rh, Ir) tetranuclear complexes [(Cp*Ir)(2)(mu(3)-NCN-N,N,N')(2){PdCl(eta(3)-C(3)H(5))}(2)(mu-dppm)] (9) and [(Cp*Ir)(2)(mu(3)-NCN-N,N,N')(2){MCl(cod)}(2)(mu-dppm)] (11a, M = Rh; 11b, M = Ir), respectively. The molecular structures for 6, 7, 8, 11a, and 11b have been determined by single-crystal X-ray analyses.

Abstract
Summarized here are our continuous studies of the last three decades concerning syntheses of new types of complexes learned from nitrogenase and their reactivites toward dinitrogen, nitriles, and alkynes. For Mo and W dinitrogen complexes with tertiary phosphine coligands, a variety of their intriguing reactivities have been demonstrated, and novel transformations of the N2 ligands into numerous nitrogen-containing ligands and compounds have been developed. The C≡N bond cleavage of certain nitriles also proceeds on the Mo site surrounded by tertiary phosphines. Stimulated by the sophisticated structure of the active site of nitrogenase, multinuclear metalsulfur complexes have been synthesized in rational ways. New types of stoichiometric and catalytic reactions of alkynes have been found by using the thiolato-bridged diruthenium complexes and some cubane-type sulfido clusters containing a noble metal.Key words: nitrogen fixation, molybdenum and tungsten dinitrogen complexes, ruthenium thiolato complexes, metal sulfido clusters, nitriles, alkynes.

Abstract
Reactions of a dirhenium tetra(sulfido) complex [PPh(4)](2)[ReS(L)(mu-S)(2)ReS(L)] (L = S(2)C(2)(SiMe(3))(2)) with a series of group 8-11 metal complexes in MeCN at room temperature afforded either the cubane-type clusters [M(2)(ReL)(2)(mu(3)-S)(4)] (M = CpRu (2), PtMe(3), Cu(PPh(3)) (4); Cp = eta(5)-C(5)Me(5)) or the incomplete cubane-type clusters [M(ReL)(2)(mu(3)-S)(mu(2)-S)(3)] (M = (eta(6)-C(6)HMe(5))Ru (5), CpRh (6), CpIr (7)), depending on the nature of the metal complexes added. It has also been disclosed that the latter incomplete cubane-type clusters can serve as the good precursors to the trimetallic cubane-type clusters still poorly precedented. Thus, treatment of 5-7 with a range of metal complexes in THF at room temperature resulted in the formation of novel trimetallic cubane-type clusters, including the neutral clusters [[(eta(6)-C(6)HMe(5))Ru][W(CO)(3)](ReL)(2)(mu(3)-S)(4)], [(CpM)[W(CO)(3)](ReL)(2)(mu(3)-S)(4)] (M = Rh, Ir), [(Cp*Ir)[Mo(CO)(3)](ReL)(2)(mu(3)-S)(4)], [[(eta(6)-C(6)HMe(5))Ru][Pd(PPh(3))](ReL)(2)(mu(3)-S)(4)], and [(Cp*Ir)[Pd(PPh(3))](ReL)(2)(mu(3)-S)(4)] (13) along with the cationic clusters [(Cp*Ir)(CpRu)(ReL)(2)(mu(3)-S)(4)][PF(6)] (14) and [(Cp*Ir)[Rh(cod)](ReL)(2)(mu(3)-S)(4)][PF(6)] (cod = 1,5-cyclooctadiene). The X-ray analyses have been carried out for 2, 4, 7, 13, and the SbF(6) analogue of 14 (14') to confirm their bimetallic cubane-type, bimetallic incomplete cubane-type, or trimetallic cubane-type structures. Fluxional behavior of the incomplete cubane-type and trimetallic cubane-type clusters in solutions has been demonstrated by the variable-temperature (1)H NMR studies, which is ascribable to both the metal-metal bond migration in the cluster cores and the pseudorotation of the dithiolene ligand bonded to the square pyramidal Re centers, where the temperatures at which these processes proceed have been found to depend upon the nature of the metal centers included in the cluster cores.

Abstract
Reactions of the bis(hydrosulfido) complexes [Cp*Rh(SH)(2)(PMe(3))] (1a; Cp* = eta(5)-C(5)Me(5)) with [CpTiCl(3)] (Cp = eta(5)-C(5)H(5)) and [TiCl(4)(thf)(2)] in the presence of triethylamine led to the formation of the sulfido-bridged titanium-rhodium complexes [Cp*Rh(PMe(3))(micro(2)-S)(2)TiClCp] (2a) and [Cp*Rh(PMe(3))(micro2-S)(2)TiCl(2)] (3a), respectively. Complex 3a and its iridium analogue 3b were further converted into the bis(acetylacetonato) complexes [Cp*M(PMe(3))(micro(2)-S)(2)Ti(acac)(2)] (4a, M = Rh; 4b, M = Ir) upon treatment with acetylacetone. The hydrosulfido complexes 1a and [Cp*Ir(SH)(2)(PMe(3))] (1b) also reacted with [VCl(3)(thf)(3)] and [Mo(CO)(4)(nbd)] (nbd = 2,5-norbornadiene) to afford the cationic sulfido-bridged VM2 complexes [(Cp*M(PMe(3))(micro2-S)(2))2V](+) (5a(+), M = Rh; 5b(+), M = Ir) and the hydrosulfido-bridged MoM complexes [Cp*M(PMe(3))(micro2-SH)(2)Mo(CO)(4)] (6a, M = Rh; 6b, M = Ir), respectively.

Abstract
Treatment of the hydrosulfido-bridged titanium-ruthenium heterobimetallic complex [Cp2Ti(mu2-SH)2RuCl(eta5-C5Me5)] (1; Cp = eta5-C5H5) with an excess of triethylamine followed by addition of [RuCl2(PPh3)3] and [[(cod)M]2(mu2-Cl)2] (M = Rh, Ir; cod = 1,5-cyclooctadiene) led to the formation of the TiRu2 and TiRuM mixed-metal sulfido clusters [(CpTi)[(eta5-C5Me5)Ru][Ru(PPh3)2](mu3-S)2(mu2-Cl)2] (3) and [(CpTi)[(eta5-C5Me5)Ru][M(cod)](mu3-S)2(mu2-Cl)] (M = Rh (4a), Ir (4b)), respectively. On the other hand, the reactions of 1 with [M(PPh3)4] (M = Pd, Pt) afforded the TiRuM trinuclear clusters [(CpTiCl)[(eta5-C5Me5)Ru][M(PPh3)2](mu3-S)(mu2-S)(mu2-H)] (M = Pd (5a), Pt (5b)) with an unprecedented M3(mu3-S)(mu2-S) core. Abstract
Cubane-type sulfido clusters containing noble metals are newcomers compared with the corresponding clusters of the first transition series metals and molybdenum, which have been extensively studied in relation to metalloenzymes and industrial hydrodesulfurization catalysts. This Account reviews the recent progress in studies on the synthesis and reactivities of these noble metal cubane-type clusters. One of the goals in this new area lies in development of the unique catalysis of the noble metals embedded in the robust and redox-active cubane-type cores. Rational synthetic approaches indispensable to the preparation of such effective cluster catalysts are discussed to a significant extent.
