Abstract
The design of molecular functional materials with multi-step magnetic transitions has attracted considerable attention. However, the development of such materials is still infrequent and challenging. Here, a cyano-bridged square Prussian blue complex that exhibits a thermally induced four-step electron transfer coupled spin transition (ETCST) is reported. The magnetic and spectroscopic analyses confirm this multi-step transition. Variable-temperature infrared spectrum suggested the electronic structures in each phase and a four-step transition model is proposed.

Abstract
The highest occupied molecular orbital-lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (HOMO-LUMO) interaction at the d z 2 orbital between two kinds of metal complex is useful for obtaining heterometallic one-dimensional (1D) chains as well as heterometallic metal string compounds (HMSCs). Platinum dinuclear complexes, [Pt2(piam)2(NH2R)4]X2 (piam = pivalamidate, R = CH3, C2H5, C3H7, or C4H9, X = anion), comprising σ* as HOMO were mixed with [Rh2(O2CCH3)4] comprising σ* as LUMO in solvents to afford single crystals of [{Rh2(O2CCH3)4}{Pt2(piam)2(NH2R)4}2]X4 (2-5). Single-crystal X-ray analyses revealed that 2-5 are hexanuclear complexes that are one-dimensionally aligned as Pt-Pt-Rh-Rh-Pt-Pt with metal-metal bonds, where the alkyl moieties at end Pt atoms obstruct further 1D extension. Complexes 2-5 appear as if they are cut off from an infinite chain [{Rh2(O2CCH3)4}{Pt2(piam)2(NH3)4}2] n (PF6)4n ·6nH2O (1) aligned as -{Pt-Pt-Rh-Rh-Pt-Pt} n -. The diffuse reflectance spectrum of 1 depicts broad shoulder bands, which are not present in the spectra of 2-5, proving that the infinite chain 1 forms a band structure. Compounds 4 and 5 with propyl or butyl moieties at amine ligands, respectively, are soluble in nonpolar solvents, such as CH2Cl2, without the dissociation of their hexanuclear structures. Taking advantage of their solubility, measurement of cyclic voltammetry in CH2Cl2 become possible, which shows the quasi-reversible oxidation and reduction waves at 4: E ox = 0.86 V and E red = 0.69 V and 5: E ox = 0.87 V and E red = 0.53 V.

Abstract
A family of five easily prepared tridentate monoanionic 2,5-dipyridyl-3-(R1)-4-(R2)-pyrrolide anions (dppR1,R2)-, varying in the nature of the R1 and R2 substituents [R1, R2 = CN, Ph; CO2Et, CO2Et; CO2Me, 4-Py; CO2Me, Me; Me, Me], has been used to generate the analogous family of neutral [CoII(dppR1,R2)2] complexes, two of which are structurally characterized at both 100 and 298 K. Both the oxidation and spin states of these complexes can be switched in response to appropriate external stimuli. All complexes, except [CoII(dppMe,Me)2], exhibit gradual spin crossover (SCO) in the solid state, and SCO activity is observed for three complexes in CDCl3 solution. The cobalt(II) centers in the low spin (LS) complexes are Jahn-Teller tetragonally compressed along the pyrrolide-Co-pyrrolide axis. The complexes in their high spin (HS) states are more distorted than in the LS states, as is also usually the case for SCO active iron(II) complexes. The reversible CoIII/II redox potentials are predictably tuned by choice of substituents R1 and R2, from -0.95 (Me,Me) to -0.45 (CN,Ph) V vs Fc+/Fc, with a linear correlation observed between E1/2(CoIII/II) and the Swain-Lupton parameters of the pyrrolide substituents.

Abstract
Three novel cocrystals of mycophenolic acid (MPA) with isonicotinamide (MPA-ISO), minoxidil (MPA-MIN) and 2,2'-dipyridylamine (MPA-DPA) as coformers have been prepared successfully by both slow evaporation and liquid-assisted grinding. The structures of these cocrystals show that all the three coformers form hydrogen bonds with the carboxylic acid group of MPA. The cocrystal MPA-ISO possesses remarkably improved solubility and dissolution rate, while two other cocrystals exhibit the opposite characteristics. The solids in the slurry with pH6.8 phosphate buffer and cocrystals remain as the incipient cocrystal after 24h. However, evidence of slight polymerization was shown in the slurry of pH6.8 phosphate buffer with MPA and MPA-ISO cocrystal.

Abstract
One-dimensional coordination polymers of alternating metal-metal bonded trinuclear [Co3(dpa)4](2+) (dpa = the anion of 2,2'-dipyridylamine) building blocks and [ReF6](2-) (1), [ZrF6](2-) (2) or [SnF6](2-) (3) linkers have been self-assembled and crystallographically characterized. Magnetic measurements reveal a significant ferromagnetic coupling (J/k(B) = +9.9 K) between S = 1/2 {Co3(6+)} and S = 3/2 Re(IV) magnetic sites through a single, unsupported fluoride bridge in 1.

Abstract
Metal-metal bonding in structurally characterized In4Ti3Br12, comprising linear, mixed-valence d(1)d(2)d(1) face-shared [Ti3Br12](4-) units with a Ti-Ti separation of 3.087 Å and strong antiferromagnetic coupling (Θ = -1216 K), has been investigated using density functional theory. The antiferromagnetic configuration, in which the single d electron on each terminal Ti(III) (d(1)) metal center is aligned antiparallel to the two electrons occupying the central Ti(II) (d(2)) metal site, is shown to best agree with the reported structural and magnetic data and is consistent with an S = 0 ground state in which two of the four metal-based electrons are involved in a two-electron, three-center σ bond between the Ti atoms (formal Ti-Ti bond order of ∼0.5). However, the unpaired spin densities on the Ti sites indicate that while the metal-metal σ interaction is strong, the electrons are not fully paired off and consequently dominate the ground state antiferromagnetic coupling. The same overall partially delocalized bonding regime is predicted for the other three halide [Ti3X12](4-) (X = F, Cl, I) systems with the metal-metal bonding becoming weaker as the halide group is descended. The possibility of bond-stretch isomerism was also examined where one isomer has a symmetric structure with identical Ti-Ti bonds while the other is unsymmetric with one short and one long Ti-Ti bond. Although calculations indicate that the latter form is more stable, the barrier to interconversion between equivalent unsymmetric forms, where the short Ti-Ti bond is on one side of the trinuclear unit or the other, is relatively small such that at room temperature only the averaged (symmetric) structure is likely to be observed.

Abstract
This communication provides a practical strategy for the synthesis of heterotrimetallic extended metal atom chains with supported dpa(-) ligands. The transformation of the CoCoRh to a NiCoRh trinuclear complex can be achieved by direct metallic replacement. Furthermore, the first (CoRh)(4+) metal-metal bond is described here.

Abstract
Density functional theory (DFT) methodology was used to examine the structural properties of linear metal string complexes: [Ru(3)(dpa)(4)X(2)] (X = Cl(-), CN(-), NCS(-), dpa = dipyridylamine(-)), [Ru(5)(tpda)(4)Cl(2)], and hypothetical, not yet synthesized complexes [Ru(7)(tpta)(4)Cl(2)] and [Ru(9)(ppta)(4)Cl(2)] (tpda = tri-α-pyridyldiamine(2-), tpta = tetra-α-pyridyltriamine(3-), ppta = penta-α-pyridyltetraamine(4-)). Our specific focus was on the two longest structures and on comparison of the string complexes and unsupported ruthenium backboned chain complexes, which have weaker ruthenium-ruthenium interactions. The electronic structures were studied with the aid of visualized frontier molecular orbitals, and Bader's quantum theory of atoms in molecules (QTAIM) was used to study the interactions between ruthenium atoms. The electron density was found to be highest and distributed most evenly between the ruthenium atoms in the hypothetical [Ru(7)(tpta)(4)Cl(2)] and [Ru(9)(ppta)(4)Cl(2)] string complexes.

Abstract
Pentacobalt EMACs [Co(5)(mu(5)-dpzpda)(4)X(2)] (X = Cl(-) (), NCS(-) ()) with fine-tuning of the supporting ligand based on the tripyridyldiamine ligand, N,N'-di(pyrazin-2-yl)pyridine-2,6-diamine (H(2)dpzpda), and their reduced form (Ph(4)P)[Co(5)(mu(5)-dpzpda)(4)X(2)] (X = Cl(-) (), NCS(-) ()) were first synthesized and structurally characterized. The structures of showed direct Co-Co bonds with Co-Co distances in the range 2.2385(7)-2.2888(15) A, and valence electrons delocalized through the whole metal chain with distances of longer than 9.06 A. The distances of the inner Co-Co bonds and the Co-axial ligands became longer after reduction, whereas no significant change was observed in the distances of the outer Co-Co bonds and Co-N (supporting ligand) bonds, which was consistent with the MO analysis. Electrochemical studies on both and showed one reversible oxidation and one reversible reduction at E(1/2) = +0.82 and -0.05 V for , and at E(1/2) = +0.89 and +0.02 V for , respectively. The redox reactions of the thiocyanate complex happened at higher potentials than the chloride complex . A magnetism study of revealed anomalous magnetic behaviour similar to that of heptacobalt EMACs, and a deviation from the Curie-Weiss law was observed. The chi(M)T value at 300 K is 0.84 and 1.16 emu K mol(-1) for and , respectively, suggesting spin-equilibrium or a spin-admixture between doublet and quartet states arising from the Boltzmann distribution over different energy levels. Similar results were obtained for and , showing intermediate chi(M)T values between a diamagnetic and a triplet state of 0.15-0.96 emu K mol(-1) in the temperature range 5-300 K. The structural and magnetic results were interpreted through an EHMO study.

Abstract
The neutral, monocationic, and dicationic linear trinuclear ruthenium compounds [Ru(3)(dpa)(4)(CN)(2)], [Ru(3)(dpa)(4)(CN)(2)][BF(4)], [Ru(3)(dpa)(4)Cl(2)][BF(4)], and [Ru(3)(dpa)(4)Cl(2)][BF(4)](2) (dpa=the anion of dipyridylamine) have been synthesized and characterized by various spectroscopic techniques. Cyclic voltammetric and spectroelectrochemical studies on the neutral and oxidized compounds are reported. These compounds undergo three successive metal-centered one-electron-transfer processes. X-ray structural studies reveal a symmetrical Ru(3) unit for these compounds. While the metal--metal bond lengths change only slightly, the metal--axial ligand lengths exhibit a significant decrease upon oxidation of the neutral complex. The electronic configuration of the Ru(3) unit changes as the axial chloride ligands are replaced by the stronger "pi-acid" cyanide axial ligands. Magnetic measurements and (1)H NMR spectra indicate that [Ru(3)(dpa)(4)Cl(2)] and [Ru(3)(dpa)(4)Cl(2)][BF(4)](2) are in a spin state of S=0 and [Ru(3)(dpa)(4)Cl(2)][BF(4)], [Ru(3)(dpa)(4)(CN)(2)], and [Ru(3)(dpa)(4)(CN)(2)][BF(4)] are in spin states of S=1/2, 1, and 3/2, respectively. These results are consistent with molecular orbital (MO) calculations.

Abstract
Here we designed and synthesized a new ligand, di(2-pyrazyl)amine (Hdpza) (1) and studied its coordination modes and the corresponding complexes with Cu(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Cr(II). Hdpza is an analogue of the well-studied di(2-pyridyl)amine (Hdpa) ligand, which was used to generate the first extended metal atom chain. Three types of coordination modes were found: anti-anti style which resulted in a mononuclear compound [Cu(Hdpza)(2)(H(2)O)(2)](ClO(4))(2) (2); anti-syn which was observed in a complex for the first time and resulted in a 2-D coordination polymer [Co(mu(2)-Hdpza)(2)(NCS)(2)] (3); and syn-syn type which was observed in extended metal atom chains [Ni(3)(mu(3)-dpza)(4)Cl(2)] (4), [Ni(3)(mu(3)-dpza)(4)(NCS)(2)] (5) and [Cr(3)(mu(3)-dpza)(4)Cl(2)] (6). Weak antiferromagnetic coupling via Hdpza was observed in 3, whereas magnetic studies on extended metal atom chains 4 and 5 revealed that the interaction parameter was more than -200 cm(-1). Electrochemistry showed that the extended metal atom chains 4-6 are much more stable to oxidation than the Hdpa complexes, and are able to undergo reduction.
