Structural Characterization of Protonated Water Clusters Confined in HZSM-5 Zeolites

Chemically accurate predictions for water adsorption on Brønsted sites of zeolite H-MFI

We investigate the adsorption of water molecules in the zeolite H-MFI at isolated Brønsted acid sites (BAS) for loadings of 1, 2, and 3 H2O/BAS. We consider two approaches to the O3Al-O(H)-Si sites: the Brønsted-type approach of H2O to the acidic proton and the Lewis-type approach to the aluminium atom of the AlO4 tetrahedron. From the twelve crystallographically inequivalent framework sites for Al, a representative set of six active site positions is chosen. For them, we calculate CCSD(T)-quality adsorption energies at MP2-quality adsorption structures for different approaches, 48 in total. The Brønsted-type approach is favoured for most cases but the Lewis-type approach has similar stability for some framework positions. We predict heats of adsorption per molecule ranging from 60 to 76, 56 to 65, and 56 to 64 kJ mol-1 for loadings of 1, 2, and 3 H2O/BAS, respectively. For 1 H2O/BAS, the experimental result (70 kJ mol-1) falls into the range of our predictions, whereas for 2 and 3 H2O/BAS, the measured adsorption heats per molecule (74 and 70 kJ mol-1, respectively) are larger than our predictions. For 2 H2O/BAS, the ion-pair structure generated by proton transfer to the water dimer competes with the neutral adsorption complex. The DFT adsorption energies (PBE+D2) deviate significantly from the CCSD(T)-quality reference energies, by up to 25 kJ mol-1 for 1 H2O/BAS, 25 kJ mol-1 per H2O for 2 H2O/BAS, and 18 kJ mol-1 per H2O for 3 H2O/BAS. Specifically, PBE+D2 overstabilises the ion-pair structure, i.e. in many cases the PBE+D2 error is much larger for ionic than for neutral adsorption structures.

Privileged zeolitic sites for humid CO2 adsorption: K+ in double eight-membered rings

Humid CO2 adsorption in K+-exchanged zeolites featuring double-eight membered ring (D8R) structures results in CO2 outcompeting and desorbing dimeric water under equilibrated conditions, which is not observed for either the H+-form of the same zeolites or larger-pore zeolites.

Ambiguous Faces of Water-Based Inclusion Compounds: L4(4)8(8) Intercalato-Clathrate Hydrate of Pt(II) Complex

Clathrate hydrates are among the most intensively studied H-bond inclusion compounds. Despite the broad definition for this class of compounds, their meaning commonly refers to closed polyhedral nanocages that encapsulate small guest molecules. On the other hand, larger solutes enforce another type of encapsulation because of the solute size effect. Herein, we report a series of structures containing various molecules encapsulated by intercalated water layers constructed of polycyclic moieties of L4(4)8(8) topology. We parametrized the corrugation of individual layers and characterized interactions governing their formation. We suggested that these could be categorized as two-dimensional clathrates based on the character of intra-layer interactions and the effects observed between entrapped molecules and water-based intercalators.

Multilevel quantum mechanical calculations show the role of promoter molecules in the dehydration of methanol to dimethyl ether in H-ZSM-5

Methyl carboxylate esters promote the formation of dimethyl ether (DME) from the dehydration of methanol in H-ZSM-5 zeolite. We employ a multilevel quantum method to explore the possible associative and dissociative mechanisms in the presence, and absence, of six methyl ester promoters. This hybrid method combines density functional theory, with dispersion corrections (DFT-D3), for the full periodic system, with second-order Møller-Plesset perturbation theory (MP2) for small clusters representing the reaction site, and coupled cluster with single, double, and perturbative triple substitution (CCSD(T)) for the reacting molecules. The calculated adsorption enthalpy of methanol, and reaction enthalpies of the dehydration of methanol to DME within H-ZSM-5, agree with experiment to within chemical accuracy (∼4 kJ mol-1). For the promoters, a reaction pathway via an associative mechanism gives lower overall reaction enthalpies and barriers compared to the reaction with methanol only. Each stage of this mechanism is explored and related to experimental data. We provide evidence that suggests the promoter's adsorption to the Brønsted acid site is the most important factor dictating its efficiency.

Molecular Tuning of Reactivity of Zeolite Protons in HZSM-5

In acidic HZSM-5 zeolite, the reactivity of a methanol molecule interacting with the zeolite proton is amenable to modification via coadsorbing a stochiometric amount of an electron density donor E to form the [(E)(CH3OH)(HZ)] complex. The rate of the methanol in this complex undergoing dehydration to dimethyl ether was determined for a series of E with proton affinity (PA) ranging from 659 kJ mol-1 for C6F6 to 825 kJ mol-1 for C4H8O and was found to follow the expression: Ln(Rate) - Ln(RateN2) = β(PA - PAN2)γ, where E = N2 is the reference and β and γ are constants. This trend is probably due to the increased stability of the solvated proton in the [(E)(CH3OH)(HZ)] complex with increasing PA. Importantly, this is also observed in steady-state flow reactions when stoichiometric quantities of E are preadsorbed on the zeolite. As demonstrated with E being D2O, the effect on methanol reactivity diminishes when E is present in excess of the [(E)(CH3OH)(HZ)] complex. It is proposed that the methanol dehydration reaction involves [(E)(CH3OH)(CH3OH)(HZ)] as the transition state, which is supported by the isotopologue distribution of the initial dimethyl ether formed when a flow of CH3OH was passed over ZSM-5 containing one CD3OH per zeolite proton. The implication of this on the mechanism of catalytic methanol dehydration on HZSM-5 is discussed.

Two-dimensional correlation infrared spectroscopy study on vanadoborate anionic skeleton regulated by countercations

Two novel vanadoborate compounds, [Cu(en)2]3[Li(H2O)]4[Li(H2O)3]2[V12B18O50(OH)10(H2O)]2·33.5H2O (1) and (H2en)4[Li(H2O)]4[V12B18O55(OH)5(H2O)]·14H2O (2), were synthesized via hydrothermal synthesis under identical conditions except for temperature. Structural analysis revealed that although both contain [V12B18O60]n- cluster anion, the different countercations potentially lead to variations in the [V12B18O60]n- cluster anion skeletons. In compound 1, the V4+/V5+ ratio was 10:2; while in compound 2 the ratio was 11:1. It is speculated that different countercations may influence the valence states of cluster anions. In this study, quantum chemical calculations revealed that the aromaticity and activity of the two compounds were different, and two-dimensional correlation infrared spectroscopy (2D-COS-IR) under magnetic perturbation confirmed that distinct response peaks of functional group vibrations to the magnetic field due to the different V4+/V5+ ratios and aromaticity of the two compounds. An electrochemical analysis revealed that compound 2 exhibits higher electrocatalytic activity. The results of quantum chemical calculations are aligned not only with the changes in the 2D-COS-IR spectra but also with the conclusions obtained from experiments on electrochemical properties. Overall, this work proposes a novel strategy for interpreting the alteration of vanadoborate anionic skeleton due to the introduction of different countercations by combining 2D-COS-IR with quantum chemical calculations.

Water structures on acidic zeolites and their roles in catalysis

The local reaction environment of catalytic active sites can be manipulated to modify the kinetics and thermodynamic properties of heterogeneous catalysis. Because of the unique physical-chemical nature of water, heterogeneously catalyzed reactions involving specific interactions between water molecules and active sites on catalysts exhibit distinct outcomes that are different from those performed in the absence of water. Zeolitic materials are being applied with the presence of water for heterogeneous catalytic reactions in the chemical industry and our transition to sustainable energy. Mechanistic investigation and in-depth understanding about the behaviors and the roles of water are essentially required for zeolite chemistry and catalysis. In this review, we focus on the discussions of the nature and structures of water adsorbed/stabilized on Brønsted and Lewis acidic zeolites based on experimental observations as well as theoretical calculation results. The unveiled functions of water structures in determining the catalytic efficacy of zeolite-catalyzed reactions have been overviewed and the strategies frequently developed for enhancing the stabilization of zeolite catalysts are highlighted. Recent advancement will contribute to the development of innovative catalytic reactions and the rationalization of catalytic performances in terms of activity, selectivity and stability with the presence of water vapor or in condensed aqueous phase.

Transitioning from Methanol to Olefins (MTO) toward a Tandem CO2 Hydrogenation Process: On the Role and Fate of Heteroatoms (Mg, Si) in MAPO-18 Zeotypes

The tandem CO2 hydrogenation to hydrocarbons over mixed metal oxide/zeolite catalysts (OXZEO) is an efficient way of producing value-added hydrocarbons (platform chemicals and fuels) directly from CO2via methanol intermediate in a single reactor. In this contribution, two MAPO-18 zeotypes (M = Mg, Si) were tested and their performance was compared under methanol-to-olefins (MTO) conditions (350 °C, PCH3OH = 0.04 bar, 6.5 gCH3OH h-1 g-1), methanol/CO/H2 cofeed conditions (350 °C, PCH3OH/PCO/PH2 = 1:7.3:21.7 bar, 2.5 gCH3OH h-1 g-1), and tandem CO2 hydrogenation-to-olefin conditions (350 °C, PCO2/PH2 = 7.5:22.5 bar, 1.4-12.0 gMAPO-18 h molCO2-1). In the latter case, the zeotypes were mixed with a fixed amount of ZnO:ZrO2 catalyst, well-known for the conversion of CO2/H2 to methanol. Focus was set on the methanol conversion activity, product selectivity, and performance stability with time-on-stream. In situ and ex situ Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), sorption experiments, and ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) calculations were performed to correlate material performance with material characteristics. The catalytic tests demonstrated the better performance of MgAPO-18 versus SAPO-18 at MTO conditions, the much superior performance of MgAPO-18 under methanol/CO/H2 cofeeds, and yet the increasingly similar performance of the two materials under tandem conditions upon increasing the zeotype-to-oxide ratio in the tandem catalyst bed. In situ FT-IR measurements coupled with AIMD calculations revealed differences in the MTO initiation mechanism between the two materials. SAPO-18 promoted initial CO2 formation, indicative of a formaldehyde-based decarboxylation mechanism, while CO and ketene were the main constituents of the initiation pool in MgAPO-18, suggesting a decarbonylation mechanism. Under tandem CO2 hydrogenation conditions, the presence of high water concentrations and low methanol partial pressure in the reaction medium led to lower, and increasingly similar, methanol turnover frequencies for the zeotypes. Despite both MAPO-18 zeotypes showing signs of activity loss upon storage due to the interaction of the sites with ambient humidity, they presented a remarkable stability after reaching steady state under tandem reaction conditions and after steaming and regeneration cycles at high temperatures. Water adsorption experiments at room temperature confirmed this observation. The faster activity loss observed in the Mg version is assigned to its harder Mg2+-ion character and the higher concentration of CHA defects in the AEI structure, identified by solid-state NMR and XRD. The low stability of a MgAPO-34 zeotype (CHA structure) upon storage corroborated the relationship between CHA defects and instability.

Strong H-bonding from Zeolite Bro̷nsted Acid Site to Water: Origin of the Broad IR Doublet

Hydrogen bonding between water molecules and zeolite Bro̷nsted acid sites (BAS) has received much attention due to the significant influence of water on the adsorption and catalytic properties of these widely used porous materials. When a single water molecule is adsorbed at the BAS, the zeolite O-H stretch vibration decreases in frequency and splits into two extraordinarily broad bands peaked near 2500 and 2900 cm-1 in the infrared (IR) spectrum. This broad doublet feature is the predominant IR signature used to identify and interpret water-BAS H-bonding at low hydration levels, but the origin of the band splitting is not well understood. In this study, we used broadband two-dimensional infrared (2D IR) spectroscopy to investigate zeolite HZSM-5 prepared with a single water molecule per BAS. We find that the 2D IR spectrum is not explained by the most common interpretation of Fermi resonance coupling between the stretch and the bend of the BAS OH group, which predicts intense excited-state transitions that are absent from the experimental results. We present an alternative model of a double-well proton stretch potential, where the band splitting is caused by excited-state tunneling through the proton-transfer barrier. This one-dimensional model reproduces the basic experimental pattern of transition frequencies and amplitudes, suggesting that the doublet bands may originate from a highly anharmonic potential in which the excited state proton wave functions are delocalized over the H-bond between zeolite BAS and adsorbed H2O. Additional details about molecular orientation and coordination of the adsorbed water molecule are also resolved in the 2D IR spectroscopy.

The Oxygenate-Mediated Conversion of COx to Hydrocarbons─On the Role of Zeolites in Tandem Catalysis

Decentralized chemical plants close to circular carbon sources will play an important role in shaping the postfossil society. This scenario calls for carbon technologies which valorize CO2 and CO with renewable H2 and utilize process intensification approaches. The single-reactor tandem reaction approach to convert COx to hydrocarbons via oxygenate intermediates offers clear benefits in terms of improved thermodynamics and energy efficiency. Simultaneously, challenges and complexity in terms of catalyst material and mechanism, reactor, and process gaps have to be addressed. While the separate processes, namely methanol synthesis and methanol to hydrocarbons, are commercialized and extensively discussed, this review focuses on the zeolite/zeotype function in the oxygenate-mediated conversion of COx to hydrocarbons. Use of shape-selective zeolite/zeotype catalysts enables the selective production of fuel components as well as key intermediates for the chemical industry, such as BTX, gasoline, light olefins, and C3+ alkanes. In contrast to the separate processes which use methanol as a platform, this review examines the potential of methanol, dimethyl ether, and ketene as possible oxygenate intermediates in separate chapters. We explore the connection between literature on the individual reactions for converting oxygenates and the tandem reaction, so as to identify transferable knowledge from the individual processes which could drive progress in the intensification of the tandem process. This encompasses a multiscale approach, from molecule (mechanism, oxygenate molecule), to catalyst, to reactor configuration, and finally to process level. Finally, we present our perspectives on related emerging technologies, outstanding challenges, and potential directions for future research.

Synthesis of Hidden Subgroup Quantum Algorithms and Quantum Chemical Dynamics

We describe a general formalism for quantum dynamics and show how this formalism subsumes several quantum algorithms, including the Deutsch, Deutsch-Jozsa, Bernstein-Vazirani, Simon, and Shor algorithms as well as the conventional approach to quantum dynamics based on tensor networks. The common framework exposes similarities among quantum algorithms and natural quantum phenomena: we illustrate this connection by showing how the correlated behavior of protons in water wire systems that are common in many biological and materials systems parallels the structure of Shor's algorithm.

Water-assisted hydrogen spillover in Pt nanoparticle-based metal-organic framework composites

Hydrogen spillover is the migration of activated hydrogen atoms from a metal particle onto the surface of catalyst support, which has made significant progress in heterogeneous catalysis. The phenomenon has been well researched on oxide supports, yet its occurrence, detection method and mechanism on non-oxide supports such as metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) remain controversial. Herein, we develop a facile strategy for efficiency enhancement of hydrogen spillover on various MOFs with the aid of water molecules. By encapsulating platinum (Pt) nanoparticles in MOF-801 for activating hydrogen and hydrogenation of C=C in the MOF ligand as activated hydrogen detector, a research platform is built with Pt@MOF-801 to measure the hydrogenation region for quantifying the efficiency and spatial extent of hydrogen spillover. A water-assisted hydrogen spillover path is found with lower migration energy barrier than the traditional spillover path via ligand. The synergy of the two paths explains a significant boost of hydrogen spillover in MOF-801 from imperceptible existence to spanning at least 100-nm-diameter region. Moreover, such strategy shows universality in different MOF and covalent organic framework materials for efficiency promotion of hydrogen spillover and improvement of catalytic activity and antitoxicity, opening up new horizons for catalyst design in porous crystalline materials.

The need for operando modelling of 27Al NMR in zeolites: the effect of temperature, topology and water

Solid state (ss-) 27Al NMR is one of the most valuable tools for the experimental characterization of zeolites, owing to its high sensitivity and the detailed structural information which can be extracted from the spectra. Unfortunately, the interpretation of ss-NMR is complex and the determination of aluminum distributions remains generally unfeasible. As a result, computational modelling of 27Al ss-NMR spectra has grown increasingly popular as a means to support experimental characterization. However, a number of simplifying assumptions are commonly made in NMR modelling, several of which are not fully justified. In this work, we systematically evaluate the effects of various common models on the prediction of 27Al NMR chemical shifts in zeolites CHA and MOR. We demonstrate the necessity of operando modelling; in particular, taking into account the effects of water loading, temperature and the character of the charge-compensating cation. We observe that conclusions drawn from simple, high symmetry model systems such as CHA do not transfer well to more complex zeolites and can lead to qualitatively wrong interpretations of peak positions, Al assignment and even the number of signals. We use machine learning regression to develop a simple yet robust relationship between chemical shift and local structural parameters in Al-zeolites. This work highlights the need for sophisticated models and high-quality sampling in the field of NMR modelling and provides correlations which allow for the accurate prediction of chemical shifts from dynamical simulations.

Ultrafast Water H-Bond Rearrangement in a Metal-Organic Framework Probed by Femtosecond Time-Resolved Infrared Spectroscopy

We investigated the water H-bond network and its dynamics in Ni₂Cl₂BTDD, a prototypical MOF for atmospheric water harvesting, using linear and ultrafast IR spectroscopy. Utilizing isotopic labeling and infrared spectroscopy, we found that water forms an extensive H-bonding network in Ni₂Cl₂BTDD. Further investigation with ultrafast spectroscopy revealed that water can reorient in a confined cone up to ∼50° within 1.3 ps. This large angle reorientation indicates H-bond rearrangement, similar to bulk water. Thus, although the water H-bond network is confined in Ni₂Cl₂BTDD, different from other confined systems, H-bond rearrangement is not hindered. The picosecond H-bond rearrangement in Ni₂Cl₂BTDD corroborates its reversibility with minimal hysteresis in water sorption.

Structure and thermodynamics of water adsorption in NU-1500-Cr

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are a class of materials with diverse chemical and structural properties, and have been shown to effectively adsorb various types of guest molecules. The mechanism of water adsorption in NU-1500-Cr, a high-performance atmospheric water harvesting MOF, is investigated using a combination of molecular dynamics simulations and infrared spectroscopy. Calculations of thermodynamic and dynamical properties of water as a function of relative humidity allow for following the adsorption process from the initial hydration stage to complete filling of the MOF pores. Initial hydration begins at the water molecules that saturate the open Cr³⁺ sites of the framework, which is then followed by the formation of water chains that extend along the channels connecting the hexagonal pores of the framework. Water present in these channels gradually coalesces and fills the hexagonal pores sequentially after the channels are completely hydrated. The development of hydrogen-bond networks inside the MOF pores as a function of relative humidity is characterized at the molecular level using experimental and computational infrared spectroscopy. A detailed analysis of the OH-stretch vibrational band indicates that the low-frequency tail stems from strongly polarized hydrogen-bonded water molecules, suggesting the presence of some structural disorder in the experimental samples. Strategies for designing efficient water harvesting MOFs are also proposed based on the mechanism of water adsorption in NU-1500-Cr.

Ultrafast 2D-IR spectroscopy of intensely optically scattering pelleted solid catalysts

Solid, powdered samples are often prepared for infrared (IR) spectroscopy analysis in the form of compressed pellets. The intense scattering of incident light by such samples inhibits applications of more advanced IR spectroscopic techniques, such as two-dimensional (2D)-IR spectroscopy. We describe here an experimental approach that enables the measurement of high-quality 2D-IR spectra from scattering pellets of zeolites, titania, and fumed silica in the OD-stretching region of the spectrum under flowing gas and variable temperature up to ∼500 ^◦C. In addition to known scatter suppression techniques, such as phase cycling and polarization control, we demonstrate how a bright probe laser beam comparable in strength with the pump beam provides effective scatter suppression. The possible nonlinear signals arising from this approach are discussed and shown to be limited in consequence. In the intense focus of 2D-IR laser beams, a free-standing solid pellet may become elevated in temperature compared with its surroundings. The effects of steady state and transient laser heating effects on practical applications are discussed.

Charge-separation driven mechanism via acylium ion intermediate migration during catalytic carbonylation in mordenite zeolite

By employing ab initio molecular dynamic simulations, solid-state NMR spectroscopy, and two-dimensional correlation analysis of rapid scan Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy data, a new pathway is proposed for the formation of methyl acetate (MA) via the acylium ion (i.e.,CH3 − C ≡ O+) in 12-membered ring (MR) channel of mordenite by an integrated reaction/diffusion kinetics model, and this route is kinetically and thermodynamically more favorable than the traditional viewpoint in 8MR channel. From perspective of the complete catalytic cycle, the separation of these two reaction zones, i.e., the C-C bond coupling in 8MR channel and MA formation in 12MR channel, effectively avoids aggregation of highly active acetyl species or ketene, thereby reducing undesired carbon deposit production. The synergistic effect of different channels appears to account for the high carbonylation activity in mordenite that has thus far not been fully explained, and this paradigm may rationalize the observed catalytic activity of other reactions.

Critical role of water structure around interlayer ions for ion storage in layered double hydroxides

Water-containing layered materials have found various applications such as water purification and energy storage. The highly structured water molecules around ions under the confinement between the layers determine the ion storage ability. Yet, the relationship between the configuration of interlayer ions and water structure in high ion storage layered materials is elusive. Herein, using layered double hydroxides, we demonstrate that the water structure is sensitive to the filling density of ions in the interlayer space and governs the ion storage. For ion storage of dilute nitrate ions, a 24% decrease in the filling density increases the nitrate storage capacity by 300%. Quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring studies, combined with multimodal ex situ experiments and theoretical calculations, reveal that the decreasing filling density effectively facilitates the 2D hydrogen-bond networking structure in water around interlayer nitrate ions along with minimal change in the layered structure, leading to the high storage capacity.

From Networked to Isolated: Observing Water Hydrogen Bonds in Concentrated Electrolytes with Two-Dimensional Infrared Spectroscopy

Superconcentrated electrolytes have emerged as a promising class of materials for energy storage devices, with evidence that high voltage performance is possible even with water as the solvent. Here, we study the changes in the water hydrogen bonding network induced by the dissolution of lithium bis(trifluoromethane sulfonyl)imide (LiTFSI) in concentrations ranging from the dilute to the superconcentrated regimes. Using time-resolved two-dimensional infrared spectroscopy, we observe the progressive disruption of the water-water hydrogen bond network and the appearance of isolated water molecules interacting only with ions, which can be identified and spectroscopically isolated through the intermolecular cross-peaks between the water and the TFSI^- ions. Analyzing the vibrational relaxation of excitations of the H₂O stretching mode, we observe a transition in the dominant relaxation path as the bulk-like water vanishes and is replaced by ion-solvation water with the rapid single-step relaxation of delocalized stretching vibrations into the low frequency modes being replaced by multistep relaxation through the intramolecular H₂O bend and into the TFSI^- high frequency modes prior to relaxing to the low frequency structural degrees of freedom. These results definitively demonstrate the absence of vibrationally bulk-like water in the presence of high concentrations of LiTFSI and especially in the superconcentrated regime, while additionally revealing aspects of the water hydrogen bond network that have been difficult to discern from the vibrational spectroscopy of the neat liquid.

At low surface coverages, NH3 consumption was found to occur during adsorption at 120 °C over both Cu-SSZ-13, and H-SSZ-13; albeit much faster on Cu-SSZ-13.

Synthesis and Characterization of Sr-Doped ZnSe Nanoparticles for Catalytic and Biological Activities

The development of cost-effective and ecofriendly approaches toward water purification and antibacterial activity is a hot research topic in this era. Purposely, strontium-doped zinc selenide (Sr-doped ZnSe) nanoparticles, with different molar ratios of Sr2+ cations (0.01, 0.05, and 0.1), were prepared via the co-precipitation method, in which sodium borohydride (NaBH4) and 2-mercaptoethanol were employed as reducing and stabilizing agents, respectively. The ZnSe cubic structure expanded by Sr2+ cations was indicated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. The absorption of the chemical compounds on the surface was observed via Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The optical orientation was measured by ultraviolet–visible diffused reflectance spectroscopy (UV-DRS) analysis. The surface area, morphology, and elemental purity were analyzed using field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), and energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) analyses. The oxidation state and valency of the synthesized nanoparticles were analyzed using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Sr-doped ZnSe nanoparticles were investigated for photocatalytic degradation of methyl orange (MO), and their antibacterial potential was investigated against different bacterial strains. The antibacterial activity examined against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli implied the excellent biological activity of the nanoparticles. Moreover, the Sr-doped ZnSe nanoparticles were evaluated by the successful degradation of methyl orange under visible light irradiation. Therefore, Sr-doped ZnSe nanoparticles have tremendous potential in biological and water remediation fields.
