Synthesis of Nitro Compounds from Nitrogen Dioxide Captured in a Metal-Organic Framework

Inverse Adsorption Separation of N2 O/CO2 in AgZK-5 Zeolite

Nitrous oxide (N2 O), as the third largest greenhouse gas in the world, also has great applications in daily life and industrial production, like anesthetic, foaming agent, combustion supporting agent, N or O atomic donor. The capture of N2 O in adipic acid tail gas is of great significance but remains challenging due to the similarity with CO2 in molecular size and physical properties. Herein, the influence of cation types on CO2 -N2 O separation in zeolite was studied comprehensively. In particular, the inverse adsorption of CO2 -N2 O was achieved by AgZK-5, which preferentially adsorbs N2 O over CO2 , making it capable of trapping N2 O from an N2 O/CO2 mixture. AgZK-5 shows a recorded N2 O/CO2 selectivity of 2.2, and the breakthrough experiment indicates excellent performance for N2 O/CO2 separation. The density functional theory (DFT) calculation shows that Ag+ has stronger adsorption energy with N2 O, and the kinetics of N2 O is slightly faster than that of CO2 on AgZK-5.

Photocatalytic Unsymmetrical Diamination of Styrenes, Indoles, and Benzofurans Facilitated by Benzotriazolyl and Iminyl Radicals

Utilizing energy transfer catalysis, this research employed the bifunctional reagents benzotriazole carboxylic acid oxime esters to simultaneously generate benzotriazole and imine radicals. The synthesis of two distinct C-N bonds in a single conversion is showcased through radical addition and radical-radical cross-coupling processes between benzotriazole carboxylic acid oxime ester and olefins. This process facilitates the intermolecular two-component unsymmetrical diamination reaction of olefins. Using this approach, more than 40 benzotriazole-containing molecules were successfully synthesized using styrene, indole, and benzofuran as acceptors, with yields ranging from moderate to excellent.

A Water-Stable Cationic SIFSIX MOF for Luminescent Probing of Cr2 O7 2- via Single-Crystal to Single-Crystal Transformation

The sensing and monitoring of toxic oxo-anion contaminants in water are of significant importance to biological and environmental systems. A rare hydro-stable SIFSIX metal-organic framework, SiF6 @MOF-1, {[Cu(L)2 (H2 O)2 ]·(SiF6 )(H2 O)}n , with exchangeable SiF6 2- anion in its pore is strategically designed and synthesized, exhibiting selective detection of toxic Cr2 O7 2- oxo-anion in an aqueous medium having high sensitivity, selectivity, and recyclability through fluorescence quenching phenomena. More importantly, the recognition and ion exchange mechanism is unveiled through the rarely explored single-crystal-to-single crystal (SC-SC) fashion with well-resolved structures. A thorough SC-SC study with interfering anions (Cl- , F- , I- , NO3 - , HCO3 - , SO4 2- , SCN- , IO3 - ) revealed no such transformations to take place, as per line with quenching studies. Density functional theory calculations revealed that despite a lesser binding affinity, Cr2 O7 2- shows strong orbital mixing and large driving forces for electron transfer than SiF6 2- , and thus enlightens the fluorescence quenching mechanism. This work inaugurates the usage of a SIFSIX MOF toward sensing application domain under aqueous medium where hydrolytic stability is a prime concern for their plausible implementation as sensor materials.

Supramolecular encapsulation of hexaaquacobalt(II) cations in a hydrogen-bonded framework for slow magnetic relaxation and high proton conduction

The supramolecular assembly of hexaaquacobalt(II) nitrate and a tetradentate carboxylate ligand resulted in the isolation of a cobalt hydrogen-bonded organic framework (HOF). Variable-temperature X-ray diffraction experiments reveal high thermal stability of the framework sustained by charge-assisted, multiple hydrogen bonding interactions with the co-former. Interestingly, the material shows field-induced slow relaxation of magnetization originating from the magnetically anisotropic Co²⁺ ions within the supramolecular framework, revealing a rare single-ion magnet (SIM) HOF. Additionally, the HOF also exhibits high proton conductivity above 100 °C due to the extensive H-bond networks and high content of water and carboxylate within the material. More importantly, these results not only observe the magnetic and electrical properties of an old molecule but also demonstrate a significant turn-on effect of multifunctionalities from non-functional synthons achieved in a supramolecular approach.
