Abstract
A bimetallic relay catalysis protocol for tandem allylic C-H amination and asymmetric [2,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement has been developed with the use of an achiral Pd0 catalyst and a chiral N,N'-dioxide-MgII complex in a one-pot operation. A series of anti-α-amino derivatives containing two stereogenic centers were prepared from readily available allylbenzenes and glycine pyrazolamide with good yields and high stereoselectivities. Moreover, the synthetic potential of this protocol was further demonstrated by the product transformations, and a catalytic cycle was proposed to illustrate the reaction process.

Abstract
Within the canonical repertoire of the amino acid involved in protein biogenesis, proline plays a unique role as an amino acid presenting a modified backbone rather than a side-chain. Chemical structures that mimic proline but introduce changes into its specific molecular features are defined as proline analogues. This review article summarizes the existing chemical, physicochemical, and biochemical knowledge about this peculiar family of structures. We group proline analogues from the following compounds: substituted prolines, unsaturated and fused structures, ring size homologues, heterocyclic, e.g., pseudoproline, and bridged proline-resembling structures. We overview (1) the occurrence of proline analogues in nature and their chemical synthesis, (2) physicochemical properties including ring conformation and cis/trans amide isomerization, (3) use in commercial drugs such as nirmatrelvir recently approved against COVID-19, (4) peptide and protein synthesis involving proline analogues, (5) specific opportunities created in peptide engineering, and (6) cases of protein engineering with the analogues. The review aims to provide a summary to anyone interested in using proline analogues in systems ranging from specific biochemical setups to complex biological systems.

Abstract
A synergistic chiral primary amine/palladium /p-hydroquinone catalysis was developed to facilitate oxidative asymmetric allylic C-H alkylation under aerobic conditions. The ternary synergistic catalysis enables a facile allylic C-H activation and alkylation with oxygen so that stoichiometric utilization of benzoquinone can be avoided. The identified optimal catalytic system allows for terminal addition to allyl arenes with α-branched β-ketocarbonyls to afford allylic adducts bearing all-carbon quaternary centers with high regio- and enantioselectivity. This work provides new insights for further studies on the aerobically oxidative C-H alkylation reaction.

Abstract
Enantioconvergent catalysis has expanded asymmetric synthesis to new methodologies able to convert racemic compounds into a single enantiomer. This review covers recent advances in transition-metal-catalyzed transformations, such as radical-based cross-coupling of racemic alkyl electrophiles with nucleophiles or racemic alkylmetals with electrophiles and reductive cross-coupling of two electrophiles mainly under Ni/bis(oxazoline) catalysis. C-H functionalization of racemic electrophiles or nucleophiles can be performed in an enantioconvergent manner. Hydroalkylation of alkenes, allenes, and acetylenes is an alternative to cross-coupling reactions. Hydrogen autotransfer has been applied to amination of racemic alcohols and C-C bond forming reactions (Guerbet reaction). Other metal-catalyzed reactions involve addition of racemic allylic systems to carbonyl compounds, propargylation of alcohols and phenols, amination of racemic 3-bromooxindoles, allenylation of carbonyl compounds with racemic allenolates or propargyl bromides, and hydroxylation of racemic 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds.

Abstract
Palladium-catalyzed asymmetric allylic alkylation has proven to be a powerful method for the preparation of a wide variety of chiral molecules. However, the catalytic and atroposelective allylic alkylation is still rare and challenging, especially for biaryl substrates. Herein, we report the palladium-catalyzed desymmetric and atroposelective allylation, in which the palladium complex with a chiral phosphoramidite ligand enables desymmetrization of nucleophilic 2-arylresorcinols in a highly enantioselective manner. With the aid of the secondary kinetic resolution effect, a wide variety of substrates containing a hydroxymethyl group at the bottom aromatic ring are able to provide O-allylated products up to 98:2 er. Computational studies show an accessible quadrant of the allylpalladium complex and provide three plausible transition states with intra- or intermolecular hydrogen bonding. The energetically favorable transition state is in good agreement with the observed enantioselectivity and suggests that the catalytic reaction would proceed with an intramolecular hydrogen bond.

Abstract
We introduce here a two-component annulation strategy that provides access to a diverse collection of five- and six-membered saturated heterocycles from aryl alkenes and a family of redox-active radical precursors bearing tethered nucleophiles. This transformation is mediated by a combination of an Ir(III) photocatalyst and a Brønsted acid under visible-light irradiation. A reductive proton-coupled electron transfer generates a reactive radical which undergoes addition to an alkene. Then, an oxidative radical-polar crossover step leading to carbocation formation is followed by ring closure through cyclization of the tethered nucleophile. A wide range of heterocycles are easily accessible, including pyrrolidines, piperidines, tetrahydrofurans, morpholines, δ-valerolactones, and dioxanones. We demonstrate the scope of this approach through broad structural variation of both reaction components. This method is amenable to gram-scale preparation and to complex fragment coupling.

Abstract
Catalytic imino-ene-type allylation reactions of unactivated allyl compounds were achieved. In the presence of a catalytic amount of a strongly basic KOtBu-LiTMP or NaOtBu-LiTMP mixed system, the desired reactions proceeded smoothly at low temperature. Notably, a gaseous alkene, propylene, could also be used in this reaction system.

Abstract
π-Allylpalladium complexes can not only serve as electrophilic allylating agents for a broad range of nucleophiles, but also nucleophilic allylating agents for electrophiles depending on their electronic environments. In contrast to these typical reactivities of π-allylpalladium complexes, silylated and borylated π-allylpalladium species show unique reactivities that can allow versatile transformations in addition to simple allylation. Herein, four different types of transformations that are in principle achieved via the inherently reactive silylated and borylated π-allylpalladium species as common intermediates are described. An appropriate selection of ligands of the silylated and borylated π-allylpalladium species can allow control over the reaction pathways.

Abstract
Transition metal-catalyzed asymmetric allylic substitution with a suitably pre-stored leaving group in the substrate is widely used in organic synthesis. In contrast, the enantioselective allylic C(sp3)-H functionalization is more straightforward but far less explored. Here we report a catalytic protocol for the long-standing challenging enantioselective allylic C(sp3)-H functionalization. Through palladium hydride-catalyzed chain-walking and allylic substitution, allylic C-H functionalization of a wide range of acyclic nonconjugated dienes is achieved in high yields (up to 93% yield), high enantioselectivities (up to 98:2 er), and with 100% atom efficiency. Exploring the reactivity of substrates with varying pKa values uncovers a reasonable scope of nucleophiles and potential factors controlling the reaction. A set of efficient downstream transformations to enantiopure skeletons showcase the practical value of the methodology. Mechanistic experiments corroborate the PdH-catalyzed asymmetric migratory allylic substitution process. Alkene isomerizations and asymmetric C–H functionalizations have been independently studied, but their combination in one protocol is uncommon. Here the authors show a palladium-catalyzed method to iteratively “walk” a terminal alkene along a carbon chain to a position next to styrenes where a soft nucleophile is added asymmetrically.

Abstract
This Review compiles the evolution, mechanistic understanding, and more recent advances in enantioselective Pd-catalyzed allylic substitution and decarboxylative and oxidative allylic substitutions. For each reaction, the catalytic data, as well as examples of their application to the synthesis of more complex molecules, are collected. Sections in which we discuss key mechanistic aspects for high selectivity and a comparison with other metals (with advantages and disadvantages) are also included. For Pd-catalyzed asymmetric allylic substitution, the catalytic data are grouped according to the type of nucleophile employed. Because of the prominent position of the use of stabilized carbon nucleophiles and heteronucleophiles, many chiral ligands have been developed. To better compare the results, they are presented grouped by ligand types. Pd-catalyzed asymmetric decarboxylative reactions are mainly promoted by PHOX or Trost ligands, which justifies organizing this section in chronological order. For asymmetric oxidative allylic substitution the results are grouped according to the type of nucleophile used.

Abstract
A relay Rh(ii)/Pd(0) dual catalysis that enables domino [1,2]-sigmatropic rearrangement/allylic alkylation of α-diazo tertiary alcohols is described. This transformation represents a highly efficient method for the one-pot synthesis of α-quaternary β-keto-esters under mild conditions, in which two separate C-C σ-bonds at the carbenic center were formed in a straightforward manner.

Abstract
An expeditious method for the synthesis of homo and heterochiral dipeptides containing l-alanine and d/l 2-methyl allo-hydroxyl prolines was developed using direct aminolysis of bicyclic lactones derived from d/l alanine. The impact of C-2 methylation and its spatial orientation on the pyrrolidine ring puckering and prolyl amide bond configuration was ascertained by solution NMR studies. The present studies reveal that C-2 methylation causes the prolyl amide bond to exist exclusively in the trans geometry in both homo- and heterochiral dipeptides. However, the spatial orientation of the C-2 methyl group and its i + 2 position in appropriately capped model dipeptides may nucleate into a turn like structure.

Abstract
The first iridium-catalyzed enantioselective intramolecular allylic aminations of benzimidazole-tethered allylic carbonates were developed, providing three classes of tricyclic benzimidazoles bearing a tertiary carbon stereogenic center in high yields and excellent enantioselectivities (up to 99% yield, 99% ee). Wide substrate scope, excellent catalytic efficiency and mild conditions rendered this protocol particularly superior and practical. Impressively, the chiral bridge with a tunable structure was shown to provide a very good adjustment space for the chiral environment. The excellent catalytic performance of the ligands manifested their advantages over the bisphenol-based and BINOL-derived counterparts in these transformations. It also highlighted the potential application value of the chiral-bridged ligands.

Abstract
An unusual hybrid palladium catalyst containing an anionic chiral CoIII complex and a chiral phosphoramidite ligand shows a high capacity for catalyzing asymmetric thioamide-directed C(sp3 )-H arylation and delivers excellent yield and enantioselectivity (up to 99 % yield, 99 % ee). Significant synergy between the chiral ligand and the anion in terms of stereochemical control was observed. Mechanistic investigations have revealed both the nature of the C-H activation and the origin of the enantioselectivity.

Abstract
Allylic substitution reactions, a well-established approach for new bond construction, often need transition-metal catalysts and stoichiometric amounts of organometallic reagents, strong bases, or oxidants. Lithium diisopropylamide (LDA), a widely used and commercially available Brønsted base, is herein reported to catalyze the allylic C-H bond addition of 1,3-diarylpropenes to styrenes. Preliminary mechanism studies have provided a solid structure of the π-allyllithium intermediate and revealed the unique catalytic roles of LDA and its conjugate acid diisopropylamine.

Abstract
We report the development of Pd(II)/ cis-aryl sulfoxide-oxazoline ( cis-ArSOX) catalysts for asymmetric C-H alkylation of terminal olefins with a variety of synthetically versatile nucleophiles. The modular, tunable, and oxidatively stable ArSOX scaffold is key to the unprecedented broad scope and high enantioselectivity (37 examples, avg. > 90% ee). Pd(II)/ cis-ArSOX is unique in its ability to effect high reactivity and catalyst-controlled diastereoselectivity on the alkylation of aliphatic olefins. We anticipate that this new chiral ligand class will find use in other transition metal catalyzed processes that operate under oxidative conditions.
