Abstract
An efficient and straightforward one-pot tandem synthesis of 3-arylindan-1-ones was consummated through silver nitrate-promoted C-C coupling of simple indane-1,3-dione with arylboronic acid via 1,3-indanedione monotosylhydrazone under microwave conditions. The resulting series of 3-arylindan-1-ones exhibited impressive yields, surpassing those achievable with traditional methods and requiring a shorter time frame. This innovative approach significantly accelerated the synthesis of biologically active compounds such as (+)-indatraline (Lu 19-005) and several other industrially relevant substances.

Abstract
Di- and triarylmethanes are an important class of compounds in many fields. Here, we report an efficient light-induced arylation (alkylation) for the synthesis of diarylmethanes, bis(diarylmethyl)benzenes, arylalkylmethanes, and triarylmethanes from readily accessible N-sulfonylhydrazones and aryl/alkylboronic acids with the aid of Cs2CO3. In the presence of light, the synthesis of diarylmethanes was also achieved from aldehydes in a one-pot manner via a three-component approach in good yields. Furthermore, we have demonstrated the synthetic utility by synthesizing organoboron compounds and 2°-alcohol.

Abstract
The synthesis of benzylboronates by photochemical homologation of boronic acids with N-tosylhydrazones under basic conditions is described. The reaction involves the photolysis of the N-tosylhydrazone salt to give a diazoalkane followed by the geminal carboborylation of the diazoalkane. Under the mild reaction conditions, the protodeboronation of the unstable benzylboronic acid is circumvented and the pinacolboronates can be isolated after reaction of the benzylboronic acid with pinacol. The metholodogy has been applied to the reactions of alkylboronic acids with N-tosylhydrazones of aromatic aldehydes and ketones, and to the reactions of arylboronic acids with N-tosylhydrazones of aliphatic ketones. Moreover, the employment of the DBU/DIPEA bases combination allows for homogeneous reactions which have been adapted to photochemical continuous flow conditions. Additionally, the synthetic versatility of boronates enables their further transformation via Csp3-C or Csp3-X bond forming reactions converting this methodology into a novel method for the geminal difunctionalization of carbonyls via N-tosylhydrazones.

Abstract
Bisborylalkanes play important roles in organic synthesis as versatile bifunctional reagents. The two boron moieties in these compounds can be selectively converted into other functional groups through cross-coupling, oxidation or radical reactions. Thus, the development of efficient methods for synthesizing bisborylalkanes is highly demanded. Herein we report a new strategy to access bisborylalkanes through the reaction of N-trisylhydrazones with diboronate, in which the bis(boryl) methane is transformed into 1,2-bis(boronates) via formal carbene insertion. Since the N-trisylhydrazones can be readily derived from the corresponding aldehydes, this strategy represents a practical synthesis of 1,2-diboronates with broad substrate scope. Mechanistic studies reveal an unusual neighboring group effect of 1,1-bis(boronates), which accounts for the observed regioselectivity when unsymmetric 1,1-diboronates are applied.

Abstract
An efficient transition-metal-free multicomponent approach to the regioselective synthesis of highly substituted N-alkylpyrazoles through 1,6-addition of pyrazole (in situ generated from α,β-unsaturated aldehyde and hydrazide) to para-Quinone Methides has been developed. The N-alkylpyrazole containing triarylmethanes having several heteroaryl rings (quinoline, pyridine, thiophene) at the central methine carbon atom was developed. This chemical process may be used for large-scale synthesis and provides a novel way to produce triarylmethanes with diverse functional groups.

Abstract
A broad range of aliphatic, aromatic, and heterocyclic boronic acids were successfully homologated using trifluorodiazoethane in the presence of BINOL derivatives to provide the corresponding chiral trifluoromethyl containing boronic acid derivatives in high yields and excellent enantioselectivity. The in situ conversion of the chiral transient boronic acids to the corresponding alcohols or β-CF3 carboxylates are also demonstrated.

Abstract
Herein, an economical copper-catalyzed reaction of α,β-unsaturated N-tosylhydrazones with diaryliodonium salts to construct both N-arylpyrazoles and diaryl sulfones has been developed. Both the p-toluenesulfonyl anion and the 3-arylpyrazole intermediates were formed in situ from N-tosylhydrazones. Subsequently, the former reacted rapidly with diaryliodonium salts to give diaryl sulfones and aryl iodide intermediates, and the latter reacted with aryl iodide to give N-arylpyrazoles under copper-catalyzed conditions. Using unsymmetrical mesityl phenyliodonium salts as substrates, mesityl p-toluenesulfide was obtained as the major product. This reaction took full advantage of the "waste" part of substrates to form an extra diaryl sulfone.

Abstract
A catalyst-free coupling reaction between O-peracetylated, O-perbenzoylated, O-permethylated, and O-permethoxymethylated 2,6-anhydro-aldose tosylhydrazones (C-(β-d-glycopyranosyl)formaldehyde tosylhydrazones) and aromatic boronic acids is reported. The base-promoted reaction is operationally simple and exhibits a broad substrate scope. The main products in most of the transformations were open-chain 1-C-aryl-hept-1-enitol type compounds while the expected β-d-glycopyranosylmethyl arenes (benzyl C-glycosides) were formed in subordinate yields only. A mechanistic rationale is provided to explain how a complex substrate may change the well-established course of the reaction.

Abstract
The reactions of N‐sulfonylhydrazones derived from cyclic ketones with γ‐azidopropylboronic acid and 2‐(azidomethyl)phenylboronic acid give rise to spirocyclic pyrrolidines and spiroisoindolines, respectively. The reactions proceed without the need of any transition‐metal catalyst through a domino process that comprises the formation of a Csp3‐C and a Csp3‐N bond of the former hydrazonic carbon. The scope of the reaction has been explored by the preparation of over 50 examples of NH‐unprotected spirocyclic derivatives. Importantly, this methodology could be applied for the preparation of alkaloid steroids from steroid N‐tosylhydrazones.

Abstract
Bicyclic hydrocarbons, and bicyclo[1.1.1]pentanes (BCPs) in particular, are playing an emerging role as saturated bioisosteres in pharmaceutical, agrochemical and materials chemistry. Taking advantage of strain-release strategies, prior synthetic studies have featured the synthesis of bridgehead-substituted (C1, C3) BCPs from [1.1.1]propellane. Here, we describe an approach to access multisubstituted BCPs via intramolecular cyclization. In addition to C1,C3-disubstituted BCPs, this method also enables the construction of underexplored multisubstituted (C1, C2 and C3) BCPs from readily accessible cyclobutanones. The broad generality of this method has also been examined through the synthesis of a variety of other caged bicyclic molecules, ranging from [2.1.1] to [3.2.1] scaffolds. The modularity afforded by the pendant bridgehead boron pinacol esters generated during the cyclization reaction has been demonstrated through several downstream functionalizations, highlighting the ability of this approach to enable the programmed and divergent synthesis of multisubstituted bicyclic hydrocarbons.

Abstract
N-Tosylhydrazones have proven to be versatile synthons over the past several decades. However, to our knowledge, the construction of isoxazolines based on N-tosylhydrazones has not been examined. Herein, we report the first demonstrations of [2 + 2 + 1] cycloaddition reactions that allow the facile synthesis of isoxazolines, employing N-tosylhydrazones, tert-butyl nitrite (TBN) and alkenes as reactants. This process represents a new type of cycloaddition reaction with a distinct mechanism that does not involve the participation of nitrile oxides. This approach is both general and practical and exhibits a wide substrate scope, nearly universal functional group compatibility, tolerance of moisture and air, the potential for functionalization of complex bioactive molecules and is readily scaled up. Both control experiments and theoretical calculations indicate that this transformation proceeds via the in situ generation of a nitronate from the coupling of N-tosylhydrazone and TBN, followed by cycloaddition with an alkene and subsequent elimination of a tert-butyloxy group to give the desired isoxazoline.

Abstract
Multicomponent reactions (MCRs) facilitate the rapid and diverse construction of molecular scaffolds with modularity and step economy. In this work, engagement of boronic acids as carbon nucleophiles culminates in a Passerini-type three-component coupling reaction towards the synthesis of an expanded inventory of α-hydroxyketones with skeletal diversity. In addition to the appealing features of MCRs, this protocol portrays good functional group tolerance, broad substrate scope under mild conditions and operational simplicity. The utility of this chemistry is further demonstrated by amenable modifications of bioactive products and pharmaceuticals as well as in the functionalization of products to useful compounds. Multicomponent reactions enable the rapid construction of diverse molecular scaffolds with modularity and step economy. In this work, the authors report the use of boronic acids as carbon nucleophiles in a Passerini-type three-component coupling reaction towards an expanded inventory of α-hydroxyketones.

Abstract
Alkyl boronic acids and esters play an important role in the synthesis of C(sp3)-rich medicines, agrochemicals, and material chemistry. This work describes a new type of transition-metal-free mediated transformation to enable the construction of C(sp3)-rich and sterically hindered alkyl boron reagents in a practical and modular manner. The broad generality and functional group tolerance of this method is extensively examined through a variety of substrates, including synthesis and late-stage functionalization of scaffolds relevant to medicinal chemistry. The strategic significance of this approach, with alkyl boronic acids as linchpins, is demonstrated through various downstream functionalizations of the alkyl boron compounds. This two-step concurrent cross-coupling approach, resembling formal and flexible alkyl-alkyl couplings, provides a general entry to synthetically challenging high Fsp3-containing drug-like scaffolds.

Abstract
Base-promoted benzannulation of conjugated N-sulfonylhydrazones and 3-formylchromones for the synthesis of diverse biaryl sulfones is described. The approach facilitates new C-C and C-S bond formation via the cascade diazo formation/Michael addition/ring opening/denitrogenative sulfonylation/intramolecular cycloaddition/dehydration and introduces diverse functional groups onto biaryl sulfones. The synthesized compounds are converted to aryl sulfones bearing bioactive benzisoxazole and benzofuran frameworks. Moreover, the synthesized biaryl sulfones possess potent turn-on fluorescence sensing and UV absorbance properties.

Abstract
N-Sulfonylhydrazones derived from alkyl, aryl, and heteroaryl aldehydes and ketones undergo rapid conversion into the corresponding sulfinates when heated with 10 mol % K2CO3 in N,N'-dimethylethylene urea (DMEU) at elevated temperature. The reaction conditions are amenable to several functional groups and suitable for gram-scale synthesis. Under these base-catalyzed conditions, N-tosylhydrazones derived from O-allylated and O-propargylated 2-hydroxyarylaldehydes do not undergo the well-established intramolecular [3 + 2]-cycloaddition reactions and generate corresponding sulfinates in good yields. The base-catalyzed transformation proceeds via crucial rapid intermolecular protonation of the diazo intermediate 11 to generate diazonium ion 12, which upon nucleophilic displacement by the sulfonyl ion 10 provides the desired sulfinate selectively.

Abstract
A transition-metal-free C(sp2 )-C(sp2 ) bond formation reaction by the cross-coupling of diazo quinones with catechol boronic esters was developed. With this protocol, a variety of biaryls and alkenyl phenols were obtained in good to high yields under mild conditions. The reaction tolerates various functionalities and is applicable to the derivatization of pharmaceuticals and natural products. The synthetic utility of the method was demonstrated by the short synthesis of multi-substituted triphenylenes and three bioactive natural products, honokiol, moracin M, and stemofuran A. Mechanistic studies and density functional theory (DFT) calculations revealed that the reaction involves attack of the boronic ester by a singlet quinone carbene followed by a 1,2-rearrangement through a stepwise mechanism.

Abstract
A general and practical strategy for 3-trifluoromethylpyrazole synthesis is reported that occurs by the three-component coupling of environmentally friendly and large-tonnage industrial feedstock 2-bromo-3,3,3-trifluoropropene (BTP), aldehydes, and sulfonyl hydrazides. This highly regioselective three-component reaction is metal-free, catalyst-free, and operationally simple and features mild conditions, a broad substrate scope, high yields, and valuable functional group tolerance. Remarkably, the reactions could be performed on a 100 mmol scale and smoothly afforded the key intermediates for the synthesis of celecoxib, mavacoxib, SC-560, and AS-136A. Preliminary mechanism studies indicated that a 1,3-hydrogen atom transfer process was involved in this transformation.

Abstract
We report a divergent and modular protocol for the preparation of acyclic molecular frameworks containing newly created quaternary carbon stereocenters. Central to this approach is a sequence composed of a (1) regioselective and -retentive preparation of allyloxycarbonyl-trapped fully substituted stereodefined amide enolates and of a (2) enantioselective palladium-catalyzed decarboxylative allylic alkylation reaction using a novel bisphosphine ligand.

Abstract
Herein we describe a salicylaldehyde-annulation reaction as a plug and play toolkit to diversify the complexity of naturally occurring ketones. The protocol entails the transformation of the polycyclic natural ketone into its propargyl vinyl ether derivative (two synthetic steps) and its microwave-assisted imidazole-catalyzed domino rearrangement to generate the salicylaldehyde ring. This annexed unit allows further synthetic transformations: e.g., the installation of a pharmacophore module to generate natural product-pharmacophore hybrids endowed with unknown biological (pharmaceutical) annotations.

Abstract
With N-tosylhydrazone as an ambiphilic reagent, an unprecedented cyclization reaction of two identical or different tosylhydrazones has been developed to access various 4,5-disubstituted-2H-triazoles under transition metal, azide, and oxidant-free conditions. A mechanistic rationalization study led to the identification of several electronically diverse unsaturated systems for regioselective synthesis of 1- and 2-substituted 1,2,3-triazoles and pyrazoles.
