Abstract
This manuscript describes the synthesis of γ-lactam from the nitrogen insertion reaction of cyclobutanones using an oxime as an aminating reagent with a catalytic amount of Brønsted acid. This method was employed with a more stable oxime reagent, which is a precursor analog of hydroxylamine derivatives with explosive properties. The reaction was tolerated by various substituted cyclobutanones and less strained five- or six-membered ketones. The obtained γ-lactam products could be transformed into γ-aminobutyric acid derivatives via ring-opening hydrolysis. The reaction mechanism is discussed from the perspective of the isotope effect, etc.

Abstract
New chiral 1-(arylamino)imidazo[2,1-a]isoindole-2,5-dione derivatives were obtained in good to excellent yields via the cyclocondensation of 2-formylbenzoic acid and various α-amino acid arylhydrazides using water as the solvent in the presence of sodium dodecyl sulfate as the surfactant and under simple and minimum manipulation, without purification. The reaction is totally diastereoselective and gives access to the nitrogenated tricyclic core with a relative trans stereochemistry.

Abstract
1,3,5-Substituted pyrrolidin-2-ones were synthesisedviaan iodine mediated cyclisation of 3-methyl substituted homoallylamines in good to excellent yield, as mixtures of diastereoisomers. Furan bispyrrolidines were formed as single diastereoisomers when 3-phenyl homoallylamines were employed in an analogous reaction.

Abstract
Rapid progress in the synthetic application of benzotriazole derivatives in the last 20 years has resulted in over 1000 scientific papers on the subject. This fact is reflected in Section 5.01.7, which involves almost a half of the volume of this chapter. The section is arranged according to hybridization of the C-α atom and atomic numbers of the atoms in positions β and γ to allow an easy access to the material of interest. Recent discovery of copper catalysis in [3+2] cycloadditions of azides to acetylenes, the so-called ‘click chemistry’, which boosted application of the 1,2,3-triazole derivatives, especially in medicinal chemistry, is presented in Section 5.01.9. From the point of view of practical applications, Section 5.01.11 is organized according to the number, position, and combination of the substituents at the aromatic rings. Another novel feature that has no precedence in the previous editions of Comprehensive Heterocyclic Chemistry is an addition of triazole and benzotriazole complexes with various transitions metals to Section 5.01.4.

Abstract
Benzotriazole is a synthetic auxiliary that offers many advantages. It is inexpensive, odorless, and stable. A benzotriazole group is easily introduced, activates molecules towards numerous transformations, and can be removed easily at the end of the reaction sequence. This Concept provides some recent examples of the synthetic application of benzotriazole methodology and is intended to draw attention to the versatile applications of benzotriazole in organic chemistry.

Abstract
Dichloroacetamides, on heating with benzotriazole, morpholine, and triethylamine, produce, in a one-pot reaction, alpha-benzotriazolyl-alpha-morpholinoacetamides 4a,b. Intermediates 4a and 4b react with nucleophiles such as allylsilanes, silyl ethers, and organozinc reagents to afford diverse alpha-morpholinoamides.

Abstract
Unsymmetrical imidazolidines 10-14, optically active imidazolidines 20-22, and 2,3-dihydro-1H-benzimidazoles 28 and 29 were synthesized in good to excellent yields by Mannich reactions of 1,2-ethanediamines 8a-c, 18a-c, or N-methyl-1,2-benzenediamine (26a) with benzotriazole and formaldehyde, followed by the nucleophilic substitution of the benzotriazolyl group with C-nucleophiles (Grignard reagents, sodium cyanide), an S-nucleophile (benzenethiol), and a P-nucleophile (triethyl phosphite).

Abstract
1-[2-Arylthio(oxy)ethyl]-5-benzotriazolyl-2-pyrrolidinones 6a-e, 12 and 3-benzotriazolyl-2-[2-arylthio(oxy)ethyl]-1-isoindolinones 9a-f, 14 are readily available from reactions of benzotriazole (4), 2-(arylsulfanyl)ethylamines 3, or 2-phenoxyethylamine (11) with 2,5-dimethoxy-2,5-dihydrofuran (5) or 2-formylbenzoic acid (8). Lewis acid mediated cyclizations of 6 and 9 produced novel 1,4-benzothiazepines 7a-e and 10a-f, respectively. Cyclizations of 12 and 14 gave 1,4-benzoxazepines 13 and 15, respectively.

Abstract
1,5,6,10b-Tetrahydropyrrolo[2,1-alpha]isoquinolin-3(2H)-ones 17a,b, 17d,e, and 5,12b-dihydroisoindolo[1,2-alpha]isoquinolin-8(6H)-ones 22a-e were prepared by intramolecular cyclizations of 1-(2-arylethyl)-5-benzotriazolyl-pyrrolidin-2-ones 15a,b, 15d,e, and 3-benzotriazolyl-2-(2-arylethyl)-1-isoindolinones 20a-e, respectively, in the presence of titanium chloride. Products from chiral amines were obtained with stereoselectivities of > or = 94%.
