Abstract
2-Fluorobenzofurans underwent efficient nickel-catalyzed coupling with arylboronic acids through the activation of aromatic C-F bonds. This method allowed us to successfully synthesize a range of 2-arylbenzofurans with various substituents. The reaction, which proceeded under mild conditions, involved β-fluorine elimination from nickelacyclopropanes formed by the interaction of 2-fluorobenzofurans with zero-valent nickel species. This protocol facilitates orthogonal coupling reactions of aromatic C-F and C-Br bonds with arylboronic acids.

Abstract
We described a regioselective tri- and tetra-functionalization of the pyridazine scaffold using two readily available building blocks: 3-alkylthio-6-chloropyridazine and 3,4-bis(methylthio)-6-chloropyridazine by performing selective metalations with TMPMgCl ⋅ LiCl and catalyst-tuned cross-coupling reactions with arylzinc halides. Several of the resulting pyridazines were converted into more elaborated N-heterocycles such as thieno[2,3-c]pyridazines and 1H-pyrazolo[3,4-c]pyridazines.

Advances in Catalytic C–F Bond Activation and Transformation of Aromatic Fluorides. Catalysts 2022. Abstract
The activation and transformation of C–F bonds in fluoro-aromatics is a highly desirable process in organic chemistry. It provides synthetic methods/protocols for the generation of organic compounds possessing single or multiple C–F bonds, and effective catalytic systems for further study of the activation mode of inert chemical bonds. Due to the high polarity of the C–F bond and it having the highest bond energy in organics, C–F activation often faces considerable academic challenges. In this mini-review, the important research achievements in the activation and transformation of aromatic C–F bond, catalyzed by transition metal and metal-free systems, are presented.

Abstract
Transition-metal-catalyzed transformations of the carbon-fluorine bond not only tackle an interesting problem of challenging bond activation but also offer new synthetic strategies where the relatively inert C-F bond is converted to versatile functional groups. Herein we report a practical cobalt-catalyzed silylation of aryl fluorides that uses a cheap electrophilic silicon source with magnesium. This method is compatible with various silicon sources and can be operated under aerobic conditions. Mechanistic studies support the in situ formation of a Grignard reagent, which is captured by the electrophilic silicon source.

Abstract
Motivated by the oleophobic and electron-withdrawing nature of perfluorocarbons, we explore the effect of a trifluoromethyl coating on lead sulfide quantum dots (PbS QDs) in thin film transistor (TFT) geometry. The low surface energy conferred by the oleophobic perfluorocarbons creates QDs packed in a primitive cubic lattice with long range order, as confirmed by grazing incidence small angle X-ray scattering (GISAXS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Hole mobilities as high as 0.085 cm2 V-1 s-1 were measured in the TFTs. No electron transport was observed. This suggests that the electron-withdrawing nature of the trifluoromethyl ligand is eclipsed by the excess holes present in the PbS QDs that likely stem from cation vacancies induced by the thiol group.

Abstract
A mild and practical cobalt-catalyzed defluoroborylation of fluoroarenes is presented for the first time. The method permits straightforward functionalization of fluoroarenes, with high selectivity for borylation of C-F over C-H bonds, and a tolerance for aerobic conditions. Furthermore, two-step 18F-fluorination was achieved for expanding the scope of 18F-positron emission tomography probes.

Abstract
The detoxification of the phytoalexin brassinin to indole-3-carboxaldehyde and S-methyl dithiocarbamate is catalyzed by brassinin oxidase (BOLm), an inducible fungal enzyme produced by the plant pathogen Leptosphaeria maculans. Twenty-six substituted quinolines and isoquinolines are synthesized and evaluated for antifungal activity against L. maculans and inhibition of BOLm. Eleven compounds that inhibit BOLm activity are reported, of which 3-ethyl-6-phenylquinoline displays the highest inhibitory effect. In general, substituted 3-phenylquinolines show significantly higher inhibitory activities than the corresponding 2-phenylquinolines. Overall, these results indicate that the quinoline scaffold is a good lead to design paldoxins (phytoalexin detoxification inhibitors) that inhibit the detoxification of brassinin by L. maculans.

Abstract
P,N,N-Pincer nickel complexes [Ni(Cl){N(2-R2PC6H4)(2'-Me2NC6H4)}] (R = Ph, 3a; R = Pr(i), 3b; R = Cy, 3c) were synthesized and their catalysis toward the Kumada or Negishi cross-coupling reaction of aryl fluorides and chlorides was evaluated. Complex 3a effectively catalyzes the cross-coupling of (hetero)aryl fluorides with aryl Grignard reagents at room temperature. Complex 3a also catalyzes the cross-coupling of (hetero)aryl chlorides and arylzinc reagents at 80 °C with low catalyst loadings and good functional group compatibility.

Abstract
Transition metal-catalyzed reactions are generally used for carbon-carbon bond formation on pyrazines and include, but are not limited to, classical palladium-catalyzed reactions like Sonogashira, Heck, Suzuki, and Stille reactions. Also a few examples of carbon-heteroatom bond formation in pyrazines are known. This perspective reviews recent progress in the field of transition metal-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions on pyrazine systems. It deals with the most important C-C- and C-X-bond formation methodologies.

Abstract
Two protocols for the nickel-catalyzed cross-coupling of aryl fluorides with aryl boronic esters have been developed. The first employs metal fluoride cocatalysts, such as ZrF(4) and TiF(4), which enable Suzuki-Miyaura reactions of aryl fluorides bearing electron-withdrawing (ketones, esters, and CF(3)), aryl and alkenyl groups as well as those comprising fused aromatic rings, such as fluoronaphthalenes and fluoroquinolines. The second protocol employs aryl fluorides bearing ortho-directing groups, which facilitate the difficult C-F bond activation process via cyclometalation. N-heterocycles, such as pyridines, quinolines, pyrazoles, and oxazolines, can successfully promote cross-coupling with an array of organoboronic esters. A study into the substituent effects with respect to both coupling components has provided fundamental insights into the mechanism of the nickel-catalyzed cross-coupling of aryl fluorides.

Abstract
We report a new catalytic protocol for highly selective C-H arylation of pyridines containing common and synthetically versatile electron-withdrawing substituents (NO(2), CN, F and Cl). The new protocol expands the scope of catalytic azine functionalization as the excellent regioselectivity at the 3- and 4-positions well complements the existing methods for C-H arylation and Ir-catalyzed borylation, as well as classical functionalization of pyridines. Another important feature of the new method is its flexibility to adapt to challenging substrates by a simple modification of the carboxylic acid ligand or the use of silver salts. The regioselectivity can be rationalized on the basis of the key electronic effects (repulsion between the nitrogen lone pair and polarized C-Pd bond at C2-/C6-positions and acidity of the C-H bond) in combination with steric effects (sensitivity to bulky substituents).
