Abstract
Oligothiols are useful as building blocks in the construction of disulfide-based macrocycles and polymers or as ligands for coordination polymers. Above all, benzenehexathiol (BHT) is a particularly important molecule, as it is used to construct conductive two-dimensional MOFs. Despite the desire to clarify its structure and isolate it to high purity, the chemical instability of BHT has hampered single-crystal X-ray structure analysis of intact BHT. In addition, the synthesis of discrete disulfide molecules of BHT has not been reported. Here, we succeed in obtaining the single crystals of intact BHT, which is analyzed by single crystal X-ray structure analysis. Furthermore, the structures of a group of molecules with intermolecular disulfide bonds (BHT·4im and BHT2·2TBA, im = imidazole, TBA = tetrabutylammonium cation) obtained by processing BHT in the presence of bases are determined.

Abstract
AbstractThis is a review of publications concerning the results of X-ray analysis of single crystals and spectrochemical characteristics of metal complexes containing polyoxo-carbocyclic compounds with one or more neighboring oxo-groups. The features of lattice characteristics and coordination modes, depending on the nature of the organic dianion, are shown here. The squarate anions, ${{\rm{C}}_{\rm{4}}}{\rm{O}}_{\rm{4}}^{{\rm{2 - }}}$ are predominantly involved in monodentate bridging coordination, and the derivatives containing five or six C-atoms in the cycle (croconate and rhodizonate anions) usually form bidentate chelating bridged modes. The stabilization of the crystal lattices of the metal complexes is due to the formation of hydrogen bonds and π-π stackings, which produce self-assembled three-dimensional (3D) structures with cavities and intercalation of some small molecules. The strong interlayer interactions lead to appearance of specific conductometric and magnetic properties, which together with their high thermal stabilities, make the oxocarbon complexes new and perspective materials for electronics and related areas.

Abstract
Previously unknown benzenepolyselenols have been synthesized and isolated in their acetyl-protected form. The two molecules 1,3,5-tris(acetylseleno)benzene and 1,2,4,5-tetrakis(acetylseleno)benzene were synthesized by the reductive dealkylation in Na/NH(3) of 1,3,5-tris(tert-butylseleno)benzene and 1,2,4,5-tetrakis(tert-butylseleno)benzene, respectively. Hexakis(tert-butylseleno)benzene was also synthesized and structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, but it was not possible to isolate hexakis(acetylseleno)benzene. The synthetic methodology is likely to be useful in the synthesis of other areneselenols.

Abstract
Current-density maps, calculated at the ab initio RHF//6-31G**/CTOCD-DZ level, show no significant pi ring current in planar equilateral geometries of neutral and dianionic [N]radialenes, oxocarbons and thiocarbons C(N)Y(N) (q-) (Y=CH(2), O, S; N=4, 5, 6; q=0 (1 a-12 a), 2 (1 b-12 b)). Only the N=3 deltate dianions C(3)Y(3) (2-) (Y=CH(2), O, S (1 b, 5 b and 9 b)) have discernible pi ring current, and then with at most 20-25 % of the strength of the standard benzene current. On the magnetic criterion, lack of current is definitive evidence against aromaticity. Pictorial molecular-orbital analysis within the ipsocentric approach shows this to be an inevitable consequence of the nodal structure of the pi and pi* orbitals of [N]radialene-like systems. On grounds of angular-momentum symmetry, spatial distribution, or both, the HOMO-LUMO excitation does not contribute a significant central diamagnetic ring current.

Abstract
Persulfurated arenes have been known for about 50 years but they were underexploited in chemistry in spite of facile, mild, and high-yielding syntheses. Their properties (redox potentials, UV/Vis absorption, conductivity, nonlinear optical properties, etc.) are mainly due to the aromaticity of the ring with sp2-hybridized carbon atoms and to the electronic contribution from numerous divalent sulfur ligands, which also stabilize negative or positive charges. The characteristic conformational patterns of the sulfur ligands often facilitate preorganization in supramolecular assemblies, with or without thiophilic metal cations, for designing redox sensors, ion-selective membranes, clathrates, organic conductors, nonlinear optical materials, liquid crystals, coordination polymers, and bioinorganic systems. A new class of supramolecules with various molecular shapes such as asterisks, chains, wheels, and windmills were reported.
