Abstract
The ruthenium-catalyzed [2 + 2] and homo Diels-Alder [2 + 2 + 2] cycloadditions of norbornadiene with disubstituted alkynes are investigated using density functional theory (DFT). These DFT calculations provide a mechanistic explanation for observed reactivity trends with different functional groups. Alkynyl phosphonates and norbornadiene form the [2 + 2 + 2] cycloadduct, while other functionalized alkynes afford the respective [2 + 2] cycloadduct, in excellent agreement with experimental results. The computational studies on the potential energy profiles of the cycloadditions show that the rate-determining step for the [2 + 2] cycloaddition is the final reductive elimination step, but the overall rate for the [2 + 2 + 2] cycloaddition is controlled by the initial oxidative cyclization. Two distinct mechanistic pathways for the [2 + 2 + 2] cycloaddition, cationic and neutral, are characterized and reveal that Cp*RuCl(COD) energetically prefers the cationic pathway.

Abstract
While anthrones exist as privileged scaffolds in bioactive molecules, the enantioselective functionalization of anthrones is surprisingly scarce in the literature, with no asymmetric transition metal catalyzed example to date. Herein, we report the first asymmetric transition metal catalyzed benzylic functionalization of anthrones through the rhodium(I) catalyzed desymmetrization of oxabicycles. As previously developed rhodium(I) systems were found to be unsuitable for this substrate, a new robust fourth-generation [Rh(cod)OH]2 based catalytic system was developed to address synthetic challenges in this protocol.

Abstract
Palladium is shown to catalyze an intramolecular aminocyclopropanation of norbornenes with aliphatic vinyl halides in good yields. The reaction tolerates a variety of amine substituents and gives good results with a variety of carbocyclic and oxabicyclic [2.2.1] alkene acceptors. Notably, stabilized enolate nucleophiles were also employed in cyclopropanation reactions.

Abstract
Transition metal-catalyzed acyloxy migration of propargylic esters offers versatile entries to allene and vinyl carbene intermediates for various fascinating subsequent transformations. Most π-acidic metals (e.g. gold and platinum) are capable of facilitating these acyloxy migration events. However, very few of these processes involve redox chemistry, which are well-known for most other transition metals such as rhodium. The coupling of acyloxy migration of propargylic esters with oxidative addition, migratory insertion, and reductive elimination may lead to ample new opportunities for the design of new reactions. This tutorial review summarizes recent developments in Rh-catalyzed 1,3- and 1,2-acyloxy migration of propargylic esters in a number of cycloaddition reactions. Related Au- and Pt-catalyzed cycloadditions involving acyloxy migration are also discussed.

Abstract
A new type of rhodium-catalyzed [5 + 2] cycloaddition was developed for the synthesis of seven-membered rings with diverse functionalities. The ring formation was accompanied by a 1,2-acyloxy migration event. The five- and two-carbon components of the cycloaddition are 3-acyloxy-1,4-enynes (ACEs) and alkynes, respectively. Cationic rhodium(I) catalysts worked most efficiently for the intramolecular cycloaddition, while only neutral rhodium(I) complexes could facilitate the intermolecular reaction. In both cases, electron-poor phosphite or phosphine ligands often improved the efficiency of the cycloadditions. The scope of ACEs and alkynes was investigated in both the intra- and intermolecular reactions. The resulting seven-membered-ring products have three double bonds that could be selectively functionalized.

Abstract
Rholling in the bicycles: a rhodium(I)-catalyzed cycloisomerization for the synthesis of bicyclic compounds containing a cycloheptatriene ring from linear alkenynes (see scheme; cod=1,5-cyclooctadiene) is proposed to proceed through 1,2-acyloxy migration, 6 π electrocyclization, migratory insertion, and reductive elimination. The overall process can be viewed as a novel intramolecular [5+2] cycloaddition with concomitant 1,2-acyloxy migration.

Abstract
meso-Hydrazines could be desymmetrised by ring-opening reactions by using various metal catalysts to form substituted cyclopentenes, which have a high synthetic potential. Herein, we report the asymmetric copper-catalysed ring opening of a range of polycyclic hydrazines with trialkylaluminium reagents and SimplePhos ligands with both high isolated yields and enantioselectivities of up to 95 %.

Abstract
The transition-metal-catalyzed intramolecular cycloisomerization of propargylic carboxylates provides functionalized bicyclo[n.1.0]enol esters in a very diastereoselective manner and, depending on the structure, with partial or complete transfer of chirality from enantiomerically pure precursors. The subsequent methanolysis gives bicyclo[n.1.0] ketones, hence resulting in a very efficient two-step protocol for the syntheses of alpha,beta-unsaturated cyclopropyl ketones, key intermediates for the preparation of natural products. The results from mechanistic computational studies suggest that they probably proceed through cyclopropyl metallocarbenoids, formed by endo-cyclopropanation, that undergo a 1,2-acyl migration. Finally, the potential of the intermolecular reaction and the related pentannulation of propargylic esters bearing pendant aromatic rings are also discussed.
