Abstract
Hybrid quantum-dot-sensitized solar cells show promising novel optoelectronic properties. An adequate design of such cells requires a deep understanding of the characteristics of each component, including their interactions. In this context, the electrochemical properties of two different hole-transporting materials (HTMs) and their chemical interactions with trioctylphosphine-capped CdSe quantum dots are investigated to evaluate their potential use in hybrid quantum-dot-sensitized solar cells. Tris[4-(thien-2-yl)phenyl]amine (TTPA) and tris[4-(selen-2-yl)phenyl]amine (TSePA) are studied in the solid state as thin films deposited on a conducting substrate. Spectroelectrochemical studies evidence both solid-state electropolymerization and doping. Upon addition of TSePA or partially polymerized TTPA to a colloidal solution of trioctylphosphine-capped CdSe quantum dots, the steady-state photoluminescence is quenched. This suggests that the quantum dots and the HTM strongly interact, probably through an excited-state charge-transfer mechanism. The combination of all these pieces of information indicates that polymerized TTPA and TSePA are potential candidates as HTMs for hybrid quantum-dot-sensitized solar cells.

Abstract
An efficient palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling of indium homoenolate with aryl halide is described. The reactions proceeded efficiently in DMA at 100 °C to afford the desired products of β-aryl ketones in moderate to good yields. Various important functional groups including COR, COOR, CHO, CN, OH, and NO(2) can be well tolerated in the protocol.

Abstract
A practical synthetic route for the preparation of 2-pyridyl and 3-pyridyl derivatives has been accomplished by utilizing a simple coupling reaction of stable 2-pyridylzinc bromides and 3-pyridylzinc bromides. The organozincs used in this study were easily prepared via the direct insertion of active zinc into the corresponding bromopyridines. The subsequent coupling reactions with a variety of different electrophiles have afforded the corresponding coupling products. Using highly active manganese, a variety of Grignard-type organomanganese reagents have been obtained. The subsequent coupling reactions of the resulting organomanganese reagents with several electrophiles have also been accomplished under mild conditions.

Abstract
Sensitive functional groups such as COR, CHO, or CH(2)OH can be present in benzylic indium reagents prepared by the direct insertion of indium in the presence of LiCl. These reagents undergo palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions in the presence of a protic cosolvent after activation with iPrMgCl x LiCl (see scheme). Remarkable chemoselectivities are achieved by using various electrophiles containing NH or OH groups.
