Abstract
An efficient palladium-catalyzed difunctionalization/dearomatization of N-benzylacrylamides with α-carbonyl alkyl bromides as alkyl radical precursors has been described. Various α-carbonyl alkyl bromides, including α-bromoalkyl esters and ketones, reacted smoothly to provide important azaspirocyclohexadienones in moderate to excellent yields. In addition, mechanistic studies suggested that the reaction proceeded via a radical pathway.

Abstract
The construction of carbon–carbon bonds by direct involvement of two unactivated carbon–hydrogen bonds, without any directing group, ensures a high atom economy of the entire process. Here, we describe a simple protocol for the Pd(II)/Cu(II)-promoted intermolecular cross-dehydrogenative coupling (CDC) of 5-arylimidazoles, benzimidazoles, benzoxazole and 4,5-diphenylimidazole at their C-2 position with functionalized styrenes. This specific CDC, known as the Fujiwara–Moritani reaction or oxidative Heck coupling, also allowed the C-4 alkenylation of the imidazole nucleus when both 2 and 5 positions were occupied.

Abstract
The transition metal-catalyzed C–H bond functionalization of azoles has emerged as one of the most important strategies to decorate these biologically important scaffolds. Despite significant progress in the C–H functionalization of various heteroarenes, the regioselective alkylation and alkenylation of azoles are still arduous transformations in many cases. This review covers recent advances in the direct C–H alkenylation, alkylation and alkynylation of azoles utilizing transition metal-catalysis. Moreover, the limitations of different strategies, chemoselectivity and regioselectivity issues will be discussed in this review.

Abstract
A general and efficient copper-catalyzed benzylation reaction of triazolopyridine with N-tosylhydrazones was developed. This reaction forms a C(sp2)-C(sp3) bond through cross-coupling, and represents an exceedingly practical method to afford 3-benzylated triazolopyridines in moderate to good yields. A proposed mechanistic pathway underlying this reaction was outlined. This catalytic transformation should enable broad synthetic applications in functionalization chemistry, allowing the synthesis of new pharmaceutically relevant triazolopyridine derivatives.

Abstract
Direct C5-alkylation of oxazole/thiazole with ether or cycloalkane has been achieved through a cobalt-catalyzed cross-dehydrogenative coupling (CDC) process in moderate to good yields. This transformation represents the first C(sp2 )-C(sp3 ) cross-coupling at the C5-position of the oxazole/thiazole via double C-H bond cleavages. Various functional groups on oxazole/thiazole substrates, as well as water and air, are well-tolerated with this concise and practical protocol, constituting straightforward access to heterocycles with great medicinal significance. A preliminary mechanism involving a radical process has also been proposed.

Abstract
Zeolite Y nanosheets with a micro-meso-macroporous structure were synthesized, and applied in the assembly of a Pd catalyst (Pd/NS-Y) for direct vinylation of thiophenes with high activity and selectivity, as compared to Pd(OAc)2, Pd(NO3)2, and Pd(PPh3)4 catalysts. This feature should be assigned to the highly dispersed Pd(δ+) (δ < 2) species in Pd/NS-Y, which are more active than Pd(2+).

Abstract
The sequential construction of diversified multifunctionalized thiazole derivatives through Pd-catalyzed regioselective C-H alkenylation has been accomplished. This versatile approach provides the diversified thiazole derivatives featuring orthogonal substitution patterns at the C-2, C-4 and C-5 positions from mono-substituted (2- or 4-substituted) thiazole derivatives or even more challenging simple thiazole.

Abstract
An efficient method for the direct C–H olefination of sulfocoumarins with a wide range of alkenes is developed. Moreover, O2 was successfully utilized as the sole oxidant for the oxidative Heck reaction. This approach enables the rapid generation of various 3-alkenylated sulfocoumarins.

Abstract
The catalytic method features a cooperative interaction between Ni and Al imparting remote C-H alkenylation at the C5 position of imidazo[1,5-a]pyridine with alkynes at mild conditions. Exclusion of AlMe3 switches the selectivity to the C3 position. Reactions with styrene and other olefinic substrates affording C5-adducts by Ni/Al catalysis are also included.

Abstract
A green and mild protocol for the dehydrogenative olefination of cyclic enaminones was devised via palladium catalysis at room temperature using oxygen as the terminal oxidant. The synthetic utility of the olefinated cyclic enaminones afforded a series of unique 1,3,5-trisubstituted benzenes via an unanticipated Diels-Alder tandem reaction. The broad substrate scope and good yields achieved with this new protocol provide an alternative pathway for arene functionalization.

Abstract
Fluorescence imaging enables the uniquely sensitive observation of functional‐ and molecular‐recognition events in living cells. However, only a limited range of biological processes have been subjected to imaging because of the lack of a design strategy and difficulties in the synthesis of biosensors. Herein, we report a facile synthesis of emission‐tunable and predictable Seoul‐Fluors, 9‐aryl‐1,2‐dihydrolopyrrolo[3,4‐b]indolizin‐3‐ones, with various R1 and R2 substituents by coinage‐metal‐catalyzed intramolecular 1,3‐dipolar cycloaddition and subsequent palladium‐mediated C—H activation. We also showed that the quantum yields of Seoul‐Fluors are controlled by the electronic nature of the substituents, which influences the extent of photoinduced electron transfer. On the basis of this understanding, we demonstrated our design strategy by the development of a Seoul‐Fluor‐based chemosensor 20 for reactive oxygen species that was not accessible by a previous synthetic route.

Abstract
Rather u(Ni)que: Two new C-H alkenylation reactions, that is C-H/C-O alkenylation and decarbonylative C-H alkenylation, of azoles are uniquely catalyzed by Ni/dcype. These azole alkenylation reactions are successfully applied to the convergent formal synthesis of siphonazole B.

Abstract
A regioselective Pd-catalyzed cross-dehydrogenative coupling between uracils and alkenes is reported. This protocol provides easy access to a variety of 5-alkenyluracil structural motifs.
