Abstract
A practical and regioselective direct N-alkylation of 2-pyridones is enabled by use of α-keto esters in the P(NMe2)3-mediated deoxygenation process. The reaction proceeds under mild conditions to produce N-alkylated 2-pyridones with high selectivity and generality, and the protocol is shown to be applicable for the scale-up synthesis, which makes it promising for practical applications.

Abstract
O-Phosphination of α-dicarbonyls via sequential in situ formation of a Kukhtin-Ramirez adduct and a P(NMe2)3-catalyzed process has been exploited for the synthesis of α-phosphoryloxy carbonyls. A range of P(O)-H derivatives, including diarylphosphine oxides, arylphosphinates, and phosphinates, are competent candidates to be introduced into the α-dicarbonyls in this transformation, and various α-phosphoryloxy carbonyls are obtained. This approach possesses advantages of mild conditions, simple operations, atom economy, high efficiency, and gram-scale synthesis, which make it promising in the synthesis toolbox.

Abstract
Herein, we disclose a fascinating highly stereoselective P(NMe2)3 mediated intramolecular deoxygenative umpolung cascade Michael addition-initiated cyclopropanation with a diverse substrate adaptability. This methodology creates a new horizon for expedient access to valuable 6,5,3-fused scaffolds having an all-carbon quaternary stereocenter via Kukhtin-Ramirez (K-R) adduct formation, with excellent diastereoselectivity and yields under metal-free ambient conditions. A few functional group transformations have also been performed successfully. Additionally, an asymmetric catalytic attempt using (R)-(+)-H8-BINOL has delivered good enantioselectivity.

Abstract
Fusion of the cyclopropane ring bearing two vicinal acceptors to the pre-aromatic dihydrophenanthrene ring, which is constructed by the Pd-catalyzed cross-coupling between the vicinal aromatic rings, is found to effectively direct the cleavage of the electronically unfavored cyclopropane bond between the vicinal acceptors. Consequently, a modular method for the rapid synthesis of dibenzo[f,h]isocoumarins from methyl ketones, aryl aldehydes, and α-keto esters via a reaction cascade of aldol condensation, Kukhtin-Ramirez cyclopropanation, Pd-catalyzed direct arylation, and acid-promoted aromatization has been realized.

Abstract
A convenient route to 3- and 5-ylidenebutenolides from readily available cis-2-acylcyclopropane-1-carboxylates is described. Upon exposure to TfOH, synergistic activation of the vicinal acceptors in cis-2-acylcyclopropane-1-carboxylates generates highly strained bicyclic oxocarbenium ion intermediates, which undergo the ring-opening/aryl shift/deprotonation cascade process to form the 3- or 5-ylidenebutenolides depending on the acyl group. On the other hand, the corresponding trans isomers, from which it is difficult to form such oxocarbenium ions, are inactive under the same conditions.

Abstract
Organophosphorus zwitterions are one of the most important but elusive intermediates for carbon-carbon bond formation in synthetic chemistry and biology. However, a lack of isolated examples due to their lability has hampered in-depth understanding of structures and their reaction mechanisms. In this study, we crystallographically reveal the solid-state structure of a phosha-Michael adduct engaged in a cage-opened C60 skeleton, which is formed as a kinetic product. This compound exhibits dark brown colour in solution with an intense absorption band that extends to 1000 nm, reflecting intramolecular charge transfer transitions. From the 1,2-dicarbonyl moiety on the conjugated orifice, β-oxo-phosphorus ylide is formed as a thermodynamic product. The reaction mechanism that has long been disputed is examined by experimental and theoretical studies, showing a pathway which includes an SN2 reaction as a key step instead of the hitherto considered carbene pathway.

Abstract
A commercial phosphorus-based reagent (P(NMe2)3) mediates umpolung alkylation of methyl aroylformates with benzylic and allylic bromides, leading to either Barbier-type addition or ylide-free olefination products upon workup. The reaction sequence is initiated by a two-electron redox addition of the tricoordinate phosphorus reagent with an α-keto ester compound (Kukhtin-Ramirez addition). A mechanistic rationale is offered for the chemoselectivity upon which the success of this nonmetal mediated C-C bond forming strategy is based.

Abstract
An easy, high-yield and atom-economic procedure of a C60 fullerene modification using a reaction of fullerene C60 with N-alkylisatins in the presence of tris(diethylamino)phosphine to form novel long-chain alkylindolinone-substituted methanofullerenes (AIMs) is described. Optical absorption, electrochemical properties and solubility of AIMs were studied. Poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) (P3HT)/AIMs solar cells were fabricated and the effect of the AIM alkyl chain length and the P3HT:AIM ratio on the solar cell performance was studied. The power conversion efficiencies of about 2% were measured in the P3HT/AIM devices with 1:0.4 P3HT:AIM weight ratio for the AIMs with hexadecyl and dodecyl substituents. From the optical and AFM data, we suggested that the AIMs, in contrast to [6,6]-phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM), do not disturb the P3HT crystalline domains. Moreover, the more soluble AIMs do not show a better miscibility with the P3HT crystalline phase.
