Abstract
Light-mediated polymerization techniques offer distinct advantages over polymerization reactions fueled by thermal energy, such as high spatial and temporal control as well as the possibility to work under mild reaction conditions. Reversible addition-fragmentation chain-transfer (RAFT) polymerization is a highly versatile radical polymerization method that can be utilized to control a variety of monomers and produce a vast number of complex macromolecular structures. The use of light to drive a RAFT-polymerization is possible via multiple routes. Besides the use of photo-initiators, or photo-catalysts, the direct activation of the chain transfer agent controlling the RAFT process in a photo-iniferter (PI) process is an elegant way to initiate and control polymerization reactions. Within this review, PI-RAFT polymerization and its advantages over the conventional RAFT process are discussed in detail.

Abstract
The Cu-catalyzed domino synthesis of multi-substituted benzo[b]thiophene through radical cyclization of 2-iodophenyl ketones was developed using xanthate as a sulfur surrogate. This method was extended to obtain tetracyclic Lupinalbin analogues through double C-S/C-O bond formation by changing the substituents. The products were converted to a HTI photoswitch, benzothiophene-fused flavone.

Abstract
A photocatalytic xanthate-based radical addition/cyclization reaction cascade toward 2-biphenylisocyanides is described as a practical and modular approach to 6-alkylated phenanthridines. The use of xanthates as radical precursors allowed the synthesis of diversely 6-substituted phenanthridines. Electrophilic radicals derived from nitriles, aromatic and aliphatic ketones, malonates, and amide derivatives, as well as radicals derived from phthalimidomethyl and benzylic derivatives were successfully introduced. The reaction proceeds under mild conditions without a stoichiometric amount of oxidant. Thirty novel phenanthridine scaffolds were synthesized with yields ranging from 24 to 76%.

Abstract
The degenerative transfer of xanthates to olefins is enabled by the iridium-based photocatalyst [Ir{dF(CF3)ppy}2(dtbbpy)](PF6) under blue LED light irradiation. Detailed mechanistic investigations through kinetics and photophysical studies revealed that the process operates under a radical chain mechanism, which is initiated through triplet-sensitization of xanthates by the long-lived triplet state of the iridium-based photocatalyst.

Abstract
Potassium salts of phenolate based polydentate xanthate ligands 4,4'-bis(2-dithiocarbonatobenzylideneamino)diphenyl ether () and 4,4'-bis(2-dithiocarbonatonaphthylmethylideneamino)diphenyl ether () have been synthesized and characterized, prior to use. The reaction of or with M(OAc)2 in Et3N affords access to a rare series of binuclear metallomacrocyclic xanthate complexes of the type [M2-μ(2)-bis-(κ(2)S,S-xan(1)/xan(2))] () which quickly forms [2 : 2] binuclear N,O-bidentate Schiff base macrocyclic complexes of the type [M2-μ(2)-bis-(κ(2)N,O-L(1)/L(2))] ( = 4,4'-bis(2-hydroxybenzylideneamino)diphenyl ether, = 4,4'-bis(2-hydroxynaphthylmethylidene-amino)diphenyl ether) via evolution of CS2 in solution. The compounds were characterized by microanalysis, relevant spectroscopy (FT-IR, UV-visible), mass spectrometry (ESI-MS), and powder and single crystal XRD techniques. In vitro anticancer activity of all the compounds was evaluated against HEP 3B (hepatoma) and IMR 32 (neuroblastoma) by the MTT assay. Remarkably, the binuclear copper(ii) xanthate complexes were found to be extremely active against both the cell lines (IC50: 8.1 ± 0.8 μM (), 8.8 ± 1.7 μM () against HEP 3B and 1.9 ± 0.3 μM () and 7.3 ± 0.6 μM () against IMR 32) and this projects them as good candidates for potent antitumor agents and the IC50 values confirm their better potency than the reference drug cisplatin. The flow-cytometric density plot illustrates the induction of apoptosis in HEP 3B and IMR 32 cells after treatment with , , , and .
