Abstract
A general and straightforward procedure for the lithiation trapping of cyclic sulfides such as tetrahydrothiophene, tetrahydrothiopyran and a thiomorpholine is described. Trapping with a wide range of electrophiles is demonstrated, leading to more than 50 diverse α-substituted saturated sulfur heterocycles. The methodology provides access to a range of α-substituted cyclic sulfides that are not easily synthesised by the currently available methods.

Abstract
We devised a new method for asymmetric cyclopropanation by employing (S)-(thiolan-2-yl)diphenylmethanol benzyl ether as an organocatalyst. Under optimal conditions, an in situ generated sulfur ylide reacts with (E)-chalcones via a Johnson-Corey-Chaykovsky reaction to afford a variety of cyclopropanes in excellent yields and stereoselectivities. This strategy employs low-environmental-risk reaction conditions and reusable catalysts. Hence, it is a green and efficient method for constructing cyclopropane scaffolds.

Recent Developments in Stereoselective Reactions of Sulfonium Ylides. ORGANICS 2022. Abstract
This review describes advances in the literature since the mid-1990s in the area of reactions of sulfonium ylide chemistry, with particular attention paid to stereoselective examples. Although the chemistry of sulfonium ylides was first popularized and applied in a substantial way in the 1960s, there has been sustained interest in the chemistry of sulfonium ylides since then. Many new ways of exploiting sulfonium ylides in productive stereoselective methodologies have emerged, often taking advantage of advances in organocatalysis and transition metal catalysis, to access stereodefined structurally complex motifs. The development of many different chiral sulfides over the last 20–30 years has also played a role in accelerating their study in a variety of reaction settings. In general, formal cycloaddition reactions ([2 + 1] and [4 + 1]) of sulfonium ylides follow a similar mechanistic pathway: initial addition of the nucleophilic ylide carbanion to an electrophile to form a zwitterionic betaine intermediate, followed by cyclization of the zwitterionic intermediate to afford the desired three-membered cyclic product (e.g., epoxide, cyclopropane, or aziridine), five-membered monocyclic (e.g., oxazolidinone), or fused bicyclic product (e.g., benzofuran, indoline).

Abstract
We report a new class of chiral tetrahydroselenophene based on (S)-diphenyl(tetrahydroselenophen-2-yl)methanol, which was prepared from (R)-3-(3-bromopropyl)-2,2-diphenyloxirane and sodium selenide. These chiral tetrahydroselenophene-based compounds were used to catalyze asymmetric cyclopropanation reactions; the selenonium ylide intermediates formed from these selenium-containing catalysts and benzyl bromide efficiently react with (E)-chalcones to give various cyclopropanes (27 examples) with excellent enantioselectivities of ≤99% ee and are the first examples of organoselenium-catalyzed asymmetric cyclopropanations.

Abstract
The nascency of second-generation sulfur-stabilized borenium cations by halophilic Lewis acid SnCl4 leads to highly active chiral Lewis acids that are very effective catalysts for [4 + 2] cycloaddition. Oxathiaborolium pentachlorostannate (5-10 mol %) successfully catalyzed cycloaddition of various dienes and dienophiles to afford cycloadducts with excellent enantioselectivity (20 examples, up to 99% ee). This super Lewis acid also exhibited good enantioselectivity for the first Lewis acid coordinated and chiral Lewis acid catalyzed [4 + 2] cycloaddition to α,β-unsaturated mixed ester amide.

Abstract
A BINOL-derived chiral bifunctional sulfide catalyst bearing a phenylurea moiety was applied to enantioselective bromoaminocyclization reactions of 2-allylaniline derivatives, which provide optically active 2-substituted indoline products as important motifs for biologically active compounds. A protecting group on the nitrogen of the 2-allylaniline substrate was carefully optimized, and highly enantioselective reactions were achieved by employing the p-biphenylsulfonyl-protected substrates. The origin of the good level of enantioselectivity for the present bromoaminocyclization was also investigated on the basis of DFT calculations. The resultant optically active 2-(bromomethyl)indoline products could be transformed to various 2-substituted indolines with no loss of the optical purity.

Abstract
Direct conversion of the readily available alkyl bromides and alcohols to value-added epoxides using dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) under mild reaction conditions has been developed. Benzyl and allyl bromides, and activated and unactivated alcohols all proceeded smoothly to give epoxides in high to excellent yield. Dimethyl sulfide, generated by DMSO oxidations, was in situ elaborated to form the substituted dimethyl sulfonium ylide species that participates in the Corey-Chaykovsky epoxidation in a domino and one-pot fashion, respectively.

Abstract
Transition-metal-free, sulfur-mediated allylic C-H arylation, epoxidation, and aziridination were realized through one-pot procedures. The reaction design involved initial addition between olefins and triflic anhydride activated sulfoxides, followed by subsequent reactions of the allylic sulfur ylides generated under basic conditions with arylboronic acids, aldehydes, or aldimines, to give allylic arylation, epoxidation, or aziridination products, respectively.

Abstract
Protecting group-controlled annulations of tetra-substituted oxindole olefins and sulfur ylides have been achieved for the synthesis of multifunctional cyclopropane- and dihydrofuran-fused spirooxindoles. Under precise annulation regulation, a variety of cyclopropane- and dihydrofuran-fused spirooxindoles containing vicinal quaternary carbon centers were produced in up to 90% yield with up to 20 : 1 dr. This reaction demonstrates high regio-, chemo- and diastereoselectivity, broad functional group tolerance and gram-scale capacity.

Abstract
The gauche conformation of the 1,2-difluoroethane motif is known to involve stabilising hyperconjugative interactions between donor (bonding, σC-H) and acceptor (antibonding, σ*C-F) orbitals. This model rationalises the generic conformational preference of F-Cβ-Cα-X systems (φFCCX ≈ 60°), where X is an electron deficient substituent containing a Period 2 atom. Little is known about the corresponding Period 3 systems, such as sulfur and phosphorus, where multiple oxidation states are possible. Conformational analyses of β-fluorosulfides, -sulfoxides and -sulfones are disclosed here, thus extending the scope of the fluorine gauche effect to the 3rd Period (F-C-C-S(O) n ; φFCCS ≈ 60°). Synergy between experiment and computation has revealed that the gauche effect is only pronounced in structures bearing an electropositive vicinal sulfur atom (S+-O-, SO2).

Abstract
Chiral epoxides serve as versatile building blocks in the synthesis of complex organic frameworks. The high strain imposed by the three-membered ring system makes epoxides prone to a variety of nucleophilic ring-opening reactions. Since the development of the Sharpless epoxidation, there have been many important contributions and advances in this area. With the rapid development of the field of asymmetric organocatalysis, a wide range of organocatalysts is now able to catalyze the epoxidation of broad class of unsaturated carbonyl compounds. In this Minireview, recent progress in the development of organocatalytic asymmetric epoxidation methods, the proposed mechanisms of these reactions and their applications as intermediates is reported.
