Abstract
A divergent transformation of 2-amino-1,4-quinones for the synthesis of pyrroquinone derivatives and 2-halo-3-amino-1,4-quinones was disclosed. The mechanistic study showed that both the tandem cyclization and halogenation involved a Cu(I)-catalyzed oxidative radical process. This protocol not only constructed a series of novel pyrroquinone derivatives with high atom economy but also provided a new method of halogenation via directed C(sp2)-H functionalization with CuX (X = I, Br, Cl) serving as the X (X = I, Br, Cl) source.

Abstract
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that is characterized by memory loss, cognitive impairment, and functional decline leading to dementia and death. AD imposes neuronal death by the intricate interplay of different neurochemical factors, which continue to inspire the medicinal chemist as molecular targets for the development of new agents for the treatment of AD with diverse mechanisms of action, but also depict a more complex AD scenario. Within the wide variety of reported molecules, this review summarizes and offers a global overview of recent advancements on naphthoquinone (NQ) and anthraquinone (AQ) derivatives whose more relevant chemical features and structure-activity relationship studies will be discussed with a view to providing the perspective for the design of viable drugs for the treatment of AD. In particular, cholinesterases (ChEs), β-amyloid (Aβ) and tau proteins have been identified as key targets of these classes of compounds, where the NQ or AQ scaffold may contribute to the biological effect against AD as main unit or significant substructure. The multitarget directed ligand (MTDL) strategy will be described, as a chance for these molecules to exhibit significant potential on the road to therapeutics for AD.

Abstract
Herein we report iodine-mediated multicomponent reactions for the synthesis of naphthoquinone-fused pyrroles tethered with a pyrimidine moiety. The reaction of aryl methyl ketones (3) or terminal aryl alkynes (5) in the presence of molecular iodine in DMSO medium followed by sequential addition of barbituric acids (2) and 2-amino-1,4-naphthoquinone (1) provides the corresponding three-component hybrid molecules 4 having naphthoquinone-fused pyrroles tethered with a barbituric acid moiety. This three-component reaction proceeds via metal-free C-H oxidation followed by multi-component cyclization forming three new bonds (2 C-C, 1 C-N) in one pot. Alternatively, the same molecules can also be prepared from the reaction of arylglyoxals, 2-aminonaphthoquinone, and barbituric acids in the presence of a catalytic amount of iodine in methanol medium under reflux conditions. The salient features of these methodologies are: one-pot metal-free method, good yields, wide substrate scope, easy purification of products, and the presence of medicinally important naphthoquinone, pyrrole and pyrimidine moieties in the products.

Abstract
4,4-Disubstituted 4H-isoxazol-5-ones bearing a 1,4-naphthoquinone moiety undergo transformation into different types of benzoindolyl products depending on the different reaction conditions. A decarboxylative ring opening/ring closure promoted by catalytic [Ru(p-cymene)2Cl2]2 yields benzo[f]indole-4,9-diones. Alternatively, hydrogenation reactions provide the conversion of 4-(1,4-naphthoquinone)-substituted isoxazol-5-ones to benzo[g]indole compounds, with the level of reduction depending on the substituents present on the ring. Starting materials have been easily prepared by the functionalization of isoxazolinones with naphthoquinone under mild conditions.

Abstract
A new type of waste recycling strategy is described in which nitrogen oxides or nitric acid are directly employed in photocatalyzed hydroxylations and nitrohydroxylations of benzenes. Abstract
A one-pot, three-component cascade reaction between pyridine, α-acylmethylbromide, and maleic anhydride leading to direct access of 1-bromoindolizines in high yields has been developed. This protocol is accomplished via a reaction sequence of 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of the pyridinium ylide with maleic anhydride, oxidative decarboxylation of the primary cycloadduct, and dehydrogenative bromination of the resulting 1-unsubstituted indolizine. Copper chloride was used as a catalyst and oxygen as the terminal oxidant. This reaction represents the first example of transition-metal-catalyzed direct dehydrogenative bromination of indolizine at the C-1 position. Moreover, the obtained 1-bromoindolizines can be transformed to other 1-substituted indolizines such as 1-arylindolizines via a simple reaction process.
