Abstract
Reductive cyclization of trans,trans- and trans,cis-isomers of the 2-CF3-substituted 3-nitro-4-phenacylchromanes with Zn-based reductive systems, depending on the conditions, affords 4-CF3-substituted 1,3a,4,9b-tetrahydrochromeno[3,4-b]pyrrole 3-oxides, 1,3a,4,9b-tetrahydrochromeno[3,4-b]pyrroles, or 1,2,3,3a,4,9b-hexahydrochromeno[3,4-b]pyrroles in good yields without changing the relative configuration of the pyran ring. A similar process involving the 2-CCl3-substituted 3-nitro-4-phenacylchromanes is accompanied by reductive dehalogenation to form the corresponding 4-dichloromethyl-substituted fused chromanes along with the 3-(2-hydroxyaryl)-2-(2,2-dichlorovinyl)-5-phenyl-2H-pyrroline 1-oxides as pyran ring opening products. The structure and relative configuration of the obtained products was reliably confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis and 2D NMR spectroscopy.

Abstract
The first total synthesis of (±)- and (-)-daphnillonin B, a daphnicyclidin-type alkaloid with a new [7-6-5-7-5-5] A/B/C/D/E/F hexacyclic core, has been achieved. The [6-5-7] B/C/D ring system was efficiently and diastereoselectively constructed via a mild type I intramolecular [5+2] cycloaddition, followed by a Grubbs II catalyst-catalyzed radical cyclization. The [5-5] fused E/F ring system was synthesized via a diastereoselective intramolecular Pauson-Khand reaction. Notably, the synthetically challenging [7-6-5-7-5-5] hexacyclic core was reassembled by a unique Wagner-Meerwein-type rearrangement from the [6-6-5-7-5-5] hexacyclic framework found in calyciphylline A-type Daphniphyllum alkaloids.

Abstract
Natural and synthetic β-lactam derivatives constitute an interesting class of compounds due to their diverse biological activity. Mostly used as antibiotics, they were also found to have antitubercular, anticancer and antidiabetic activities, among others. In this investigation, six new 3,3-dichloro-β-lactams prepared in a previous work were evaluated for their hemolytic and cytotoxic properties. The results showed that the proposed compounds have non-hemolytic properties and exhibited an interesting cytotoxic activity toward squamous cell carcinoma (A431 cell line), which was highly dependent on the structure and concentration of these β-lactams. Among the molecules tested, 2b was the most cytotoxic, with the lowest IC50 values (30–47 µg/mL) and a promising selectivity against the tumor cells compared with non-tumoral cells.

Abstract
The first blue light-mediated synthesis of γ- and δ-lactams from trichloroacetamides is reported in the presence of fac-Ir(ppy)3. Unlike previous works, these reactions are achieved under an air atmosphere with non-anhydrous solvents and even in water. Moreover, we have demonstrated that the solvent can be the hydrogen donor in the radical process which opens up new insights into these radical transformations and the reaction mechanisms involved.

Abstract
A visible-light-induced cascade Meerwein addition/cyclization of alkenes involving C-F bond cleavage was developed. This method offers a rapid access to azaspirocyclic cyclohexadienones from N-benzylacrylamides via C-F bond cleavage applying H2O as an external oxygen source, allowing for the incorporation of various aromatic moieties originating from aryldiazonium salts.

Abstract
Intramolecular double hydroalkoxylation of internal alkynes could be achieved using a Grubbs-type ruthenium carbene complex or its modified species to deliver a series of bridged- and spiroacetal derivatives in moderate to good yields. This study represents a new example of nonmetathetic reactions catalyzed by Grubbs-type ruthenium carbene complexes.

Abstract
A general and concise method was developed for the synthesis of highly functionalized morphans 3-4 by the Michael and hetero-Michael addition reaction of different types of quinone monoketals 1 and 1,1-enediamines 2 in ethanol or 1,4-dioxane at reflux. This method is suitable for the efficient parallel syntheses of N-containing heterocycles. A library of highly functional morphan derivatives was easily constructed using the Michael/hetero-Michael reaction.

Abstract
An unexpected C-C bond cleavage was observed in trichloroacetamide-tethered ketones under amine treatment and exploited to develop a new synthesis of normophans from 4-amidocyclohexanones. The reaction involves an unprecedented intramolecular haloform-type reaction of trichloroacetamides promoted by enamines (generated in situ from ketones) as counter-reagents. The methodology was applied to the synthesis of compounds embodying the 6-azabicyclo[3.2.1]octane framework.
